In this game of efedding, it takes more than just the handler to get a character over. It takes people cooperating.
For instance, Baron debuts a new persona.
And it's nothing but .gifs and jokes.
A classic example is Oblivion. Giant man, scary man, nobody sells it like that because everyone is Stone Cold Steve Austin.
A more classic example is Corey Black. Beat them all yet somehow old and broken down.
These are not character traits, these are dumb things uncreative people do because they have to always get their character "over." When in reality you just look like a jackass for not helping people along with their character.
Baron's internet thread pissed me off and reminded me why it takes forever for anyone to fully accept WCF. It isn't because Odin and I are hardasses. It's because nobody wants to help each other anymore.
Let's fucking help each other.

I feel like this is more a case of people's alignments/character gimmicks rather than them just not selling stuff or being jerks or whatever.
Example... Lilith is crazy so she views guys who have been in WCF for years as "cobweb bears" and doesn't see the legitimate threat in Oblivion, hence calling him the "cute Obi Bear".
Another example... Sarah Twilight doesn't like or respect anybody so she wouldn't go biting her tongue when it comes to stepping up against Oblivion etc
If however you were playing an underdog character or like a Rocky Balboa character when he's going through his fears and worries stage then it should be sold as such.

Everybody is scared of Oblivion, that ks his gimmick, and it is up to you to uphold that.

If my posts on that thread come off as me being and insensitive jackass, then I apologize. My intention of doing so was not to no-sell the character, but to give Baron's new persona an added incentive to brutalizing his opponents. Since Phoenix essentially knows nothing about the new persona, he isn't fully sure how to prepare for it, so he tries to throw him off of his game by pissing him off so that he's more focused on carnage than he is on winning. So again, apologies to you and especially to Baron if it looked like I'm not taking his persona seriously.

Other example... Harley Quinn. She has such a character/gimmick that she doesn't necessarily see and take Batman for the legitimate threat that he is and instead spends most of the time toying with him and talking all cutsie to him.

No need to apologize good sir, I just wanted to get everybody on the same page.
Harley Quinn is a DC Comics character and has nothing to do with WCF. But since you bring it up, she won't fight Batman without a gadget of some kind. Wrestlers don't get gadgets.

Baron is rolling with it to try to keep the character dangerous. He shouldn't have to keep up with gifs and sandwich talk from like 4 different people.

What about when AJ Lee was toying with Kane and wasn't viewing him as the legitimate scary monster that he is supposed to be?

And he is still dangerous. The interactions and responses are just fine.

Also I find it funny how you mention Odin in this when he does the exact thing with his ZMAC character as what you're complaining about lol I think we both know that if ZMAC was active right now hed call Baron the usual ZMACisms lol

Kane went soft. Oblivion hasn't gone soft.
This isn't up for argument. It's fact. Your job as a WCF wrestler is to follow along with other people's character as best you can. Do you want people with ridiculous character traits to nullify what you're trying to build?
Of course you do because you don't take this seriously.
Stop arguing. You have no dog in this.

Cool. One of my favorite efed topics has popped up again just as I'm checking in at work. I'll try to reply in more detail when I get home but to summarize my feeling is in all but the most egregious cases people should be allowed to write the way they want to. Yeah it does get dull when every wrestler is basically a no-selling anti-hero who talks down to their opponents Ala SCSA or the Rock but if that's the character they want to play so be it.

Hoo boy, Danger zone. Going to come off like I'm lecturing if I'm not careful.
The Internet boards are meant to be fun and tell jokes. They are meant to be the chance to build your character.
Unless you're in an Internet title match or actively embroiled in a feud though, they are NOT meant to diminish, shoot on, or otherwise completely trash people's characters for essentially no reason.
Yes, even if your character would not respect that person. Yes, even if your character is a heel. Yes, even if your character is a troll.
Why? Well it's pretty straightforward and complicated at the same time. In real life, if you essentially moon the undertaker, he will either leave you unconscious or bury you alive.
If you spray paint your name on Kane's door, then he will light you on fire.
If you make fun of Goldberg's Haircut, he will jackhammer you.
So. With that in mind.
If you post a thread or post on the Internet board where you essentially attack a character for no reason, ask yourself two questions.
1) is this character I am currently mocking going to have the chance to give my character comeuppance somehow?
2) If no to 1, is the character I am bothering currently in a feud with someone else?
3) if no to 1 or 2, have I expressed my interest via a courteous PM in working with this handler?
If the answer to all 3 of these questions is no, I'm sorry, you're causing problems. The first one i feel is especially important. If I'm mocking OBLIVION, hall of famer and monster, I expect not only for him to beat the hell out of me, I would PM him beforehand and let him know that I'm going to get traumatized for that mistake, even if I win the match.
That's my take on it. I'm posting funny gifs at night Rider, but he's also my opponent, and you damned sure believe the match I'm going to write will show just how much I respect that handler.

I feel you mistake my character for the actual me. Perfect example, when I played Crystal Knight she was played and handled in a COMPLETELY different way to how Lilith is handled ... so much so that most people (apart from admins) didn't even know it was me. If it's a characters gimmick to act and behave in a certain way I don't see what the issue is.

Acting like Stone Cold needs to be earned. If you're just starting out, you need to follow along with characters. There's a slim few that should be telling Oblivion that he's a jackass in a mask. And at the same time, the very same few that can no-sell Baron's stuff. Yet it continually happens and discourages characters in WCF as opposed to worked shoot nonsense.

I know, I wasn't even one of the ones who posted in said threads you're talking about. I just agree with Slane and also Teddy Blaze. I mean if even I have FINALLY realized that I shouldn't be tweeting people I'm not somewhat engaged with... surely everyone can having said that... I still don't see why or how playing your characters gimmick the way it is supposed to be is an issue (when not imposing on other peoples twitters).

Because not everybody wants to be Stone Cold. Sometimes somebody wants to be Kane. And should go along with that because we are all WCF family.
