[Bobby sits on the couch in his apartment and ponders the note that he received last night.
Meet me tomorrow at the park by the water fountain. Come alone.
Who left this note and why? Could it be some sort of a trap? The air conditioner hums in the background as Bobby struggles with the decision to either heed the note or ignore it. Finally, Bobby stands up and grabs his jacket and his bike. He's made his decision. Bobby takes the elevator downstairs and then rides over to the park. He stops in front of the water fountain and waits. Moments later, a man dressed in a black hooded-sweatshirt and black sunglasses approaches Bobby.]
Man: "You did the right thing by coming here, Mr. Cairo."
Bobby: "That's good to know, but exactly why am I here and who are you?"
Man: "I'm a former associate of your new business partner, Dennis Regent. I'm here to tell you that Mr. Regent is not what he appears to be."
Bobby: "What do you mean by that?"
Man: "Regent is a very dangerous man. This product that he wants you to endorse, Blue Thunder? It contains an experimental new mind control drug called Ritadone."
[Bobby seems concerned upon hearing this, but then bursts out in laughter.]
Bobby: "Mind control drug? That's a good one! You almost had me, man! Who put you up to this? Was it Zeke? No, no, no, I bet it was Jasper! That guy's always playing practical jokes."
[Bobby turns away from the man and starts to get back onto his bike.]
Man: "If you leave here without listening to me, you'll be turning your back on millions of people."
[Bobby pauses for a moment, then turns back toward the man.]
Bobby: "What? Are you telling me that you're serious?"
Man: "I'm very serious, Mr. Cairo"
Bobby: "Oh yeah? So tell me, why would Regent want to drug people?"
Man: "To conquer the world."
Bobby: "I'm sorry? Did you say 'to conquer the world'?"
Man: "Regent is a direct descendant of Alexander the Great. When Regent was a young boy his parents would regale him with tales of Alexander's exploits. Since then, Regent has spent every waking hour plotting to conquer the world."
[Bobby has a skeptical look on his face.]
Bobby: "And all of these years later, he decided that the best way to 'conquer the world' is by drugging an energy drink?"
Man: "He is quite insane, Mr. Cairo. That's why it's imperative that you stop him before it's too late. If you win the World Title at Payback, Regent is going to ask you to appear in a series of commercials. These commercials will contain subliminal messages, messages that will instruct the viewer to obey Regent and embrace him as their new leader. These messages would normally have little to no effect. However Ritadone, the drug in Blue Thunder, will modify the way that people think and make them susceptible to this form of mind control. The worst part is that they'll never suspect anything."
[Bobby shakes his head and attempts to process the information that he's just been told.]
Bobby: "As hard as all of this is to believe, you seem to be sincere. That's why, in spite of my skepticism, I'm going to do some investigative work. I'll do a check on Regent and see if I can confirm what you're telling me. If I need to contact you, how can I do so?"
Man: "I'll contact you."
[The man turns to walk away, then pauses.]
Man: "Mr. Cairo, do be careful. If Regent knows that you're trying to stop him, he won't hesitate to remove you as a threat."
[The man walks away, eventually disappearing in the horizon. Bobby takes his bike and walks over to the nearest bench. He sits down and begins to contemplate this new dilemma.]
