”Hey, seriously, though, you all are amazing- performing for fans like you guys that fill the seats every show is the reason I still do this! Thank you all so much!”
The scene opens on a sunny mid-Saturday afternoon, outside. We open at a large outdoor concert stage, from a view about five rows back, and the camera points up at the humongous, fantastically built stage, with all its speakers and amps placed in their specific spots all around the arena. There is a group of musicians on stage; there’s a drummer, and three guitarists, a base, a rhythm, and a lead guitarist standing toward the front, speaking. The group on stage is collectively known as Nickelback, and that means the man speaking is none other than Chad Kroeger.
Chad Kroeger: “I know I speak for the entire band when I say playing for you all has been an incredible experience. We’ve got a couple more songs for you this evening, and for the first of those that are still remaining, I’d like you all to give a warm welcome to a good friend of mine, a good friend of Nickelback’s, give it up for professional wrestler Roy Speede!”
The crowd goes wild as the man introduced as Roy Speede steps out onto the stage, carrying his own microphone. He’s wearing faded blue jeans and a black tee shirt with the word ‘Nickelback’ written in all caps across the front of the shirt in bright white letters, and an image of the Dark Horse album cover below it. He also has some black sneakers on, and is walking slowly, taking in the moment. As he makes it to center stage, he pauses, grinning widely out toward the audience. He lifts the microphone up to a position about six inches from his lips, and begins to speak, and the audience falls deathly silent.
Roy Speede: Hello Reading, Pennsylvania!
The crowd cheers loudly as a positive response.
Roy Speede: As Chad said, I’m Roy Speede. I’m a professional wrestler currently working for the Wrestling Championship Federation, and am good friends with the guys here. Chad, Mike, Daniel, Ryan, and I have been preparing this for the fans for a while. It’s a little rendition of one of our favorite songs, and I hope it’s one of yours as well!
As he finishes his speech, Mike, the bass guitarist, and Ryan, on rhythm guitar, start playing the opening chords to ‘This Afternoon’. Chad joins in on lead guitar and Daniel picks up the tune on the drums as the crowd really starts getting into the song; claps can be heard that match the beat, and as the group takes the song into the first verse, Roy begins to sing.
Roy Speede:
Lookin’ like another WCF day,
Training so my matches will go okay,
But I still doubt I’ll ever beat the great D-Day
I got a tag team title shot with FPV,
Hoping for a victory for him and me,
We both know that it won’t come too easy
Turns out Deruty’s teaming with my pop,
Logan being my father made my jaw drop,
I’ll still win and make the criticism stop
Ohh
Better hang on if you’re comin’ along
‘Cause we’re gonna brawl till six in the mornin’
Nothing wrong with fighting all night long
Tough to give the titles up it doesn’t matter when you gotta
Give up,
Just tap out,
A much less painful end
You’re beat up
You’re beat down
And we’ll kick your ass again
We’re preppin’ for a fight
The future’s bright
This Monday night
Everyone is betting on me to lose
But they can kiss my ass ‘cause I paid my dues
Now I know, there’s something left for me to prove
Deruty is the tag team and the world champ
But his double title reign’s about to cramp
The tag belts, with our names we surely stamp
Oh
Better hang on if you’re comin’ along
‘Cause we’re gonna brawl till six in the mornin’
Nothing wrong with fighting all night long
Tough to give the titles up it doesn’t matter when you gotta
Give up,
Just tap out,
A much less painful end
You’re beat up
You’re beat down
And we’ll kick your ass again
Yeah just give up,
Just tap out,
A much less painful end
You’re beat up
You’re beat down
And we’ll kick your ass again
We’re preppin’ for a fight
The future’s bright
This Monday night
Don’t need a wristlock, no leg or fist drop
To win this title match
From the moment that bell sounds
I go down fighting ‘till the end
They barely get by
I hope they don’t die
‘Cause we will get the win
I’ve trained all day ‘till the sun goes down
So I can raise the belt again
It’s not the foes you face it’s who you are inside,
And you can’t be the best unless you have your pride
So I doubt I’ll figure out just what to do
I’m gonna face the facts, I know I’ll prob’ly lose.
Oh
Better hang on if you’re comin’ along
‘Cause we’re gonna brawl till six in the mornin’
Nothing wrong with fighting all night long
Tough to give the titles up it doesn’t matter when you gotta
Give up,
Just tap out,
A much less painful end
You’re beat up
You’re beat down
And we’ll kick your ass again
Yeah just give up,
Just tap out,
A much less painful end
You’re beat up

As the song’s ending chords fade out, the crowd goes wild for the band and for Roy. Roy takes a few deep breaths, smiling, and the Chad retakes center stage as Roy takes a few steps over to one side.
Chad Kroeger: Folks, that was Wrestling Championship Federation’s own Roy Speede on vocals there. Don’t forget to catch him in action this Monday night on Slam just up the street a little ways in Oley. Did you have anything else you wanted to say to the fans, man?
Roy lifts the microphone to his mouth once again.
Roy Speede: Yeah, I do. Thanks, Chad, thanks guys, and thank you everyone. I’ve done a few smaller singing spots before, but nothing like this, and the reception you’ve given to my performance is just amazing. Thank you all!
Now, as Chad said, this Monday, the Wrestling Championship Federation is having Monday night Slam right up the road in Oley, and I’m going to be participating in an important tag team title match. This match is going to be amazing to watch, because it features four of the top wrestlers in the world today; I’m going to be teaming with Mr. FPV against Donald ‘D-Day’ Deruty, the current World Champion, and against my own father, Logan. And the winning team will be the tag team champions.
The first thought on everyone’s minds has to be what my thoughts are about having to face my own father. Well, that didn’t work out so well for me last week, but this week I am confident that things will be successful for me, and that I will be victorious over my father. There is no doubt in my mind that he is learning of the mistake he made all those years back. He left my mother to raise me by herself, and now I’m going to each him never to leave a woman to waste away when she cannot provide for her child and herself. And I’m going to make sure he knows that his ways were foolish.
Then, there is the man known as D-Day. I haven’t any problems with Mister Deruty, but he holds the tag team belts, and they are what I’m after. D-Day is one of the guys I have utmost respect for- he was one of those that convinced me to get into the business, and I’ve been a fan of his for some time now, and I’m honored to get the chance to face him. But just because I’ve idolized him doesn’t mean I’m going to go easy on him; it just makes me want to beat him worse. And that is exactly what I’ll do.
And then there’s Mr. FPV, the man who was last week on Slam dragged away by a hoard of midgets and tied up by barbed wire and locked in a broom closet. He’s not going to be a hundred percent this week, and I’m going to have to pick up the slack. But Mr. FPV is a fighter, and I know for a fact he’s going to be ready to go this Monday, and is going to be on the hunt for those tag belts just like I am.
And of course, there is Oblivion, whose midgets dragged Mr. FPV into hell and spit him back out; if he or his midgets or vixens or anybody associated with him try to mess with him this week, I’m going to beat them down and get back to winning, and if they so much as lay a finger on me, I will make sure they don’t get back up. I’ve come a long way since I first started, and I’ve let myself down one too many times. This time, I refuse to lose; I’m not going to let Mr. FPV down, and I’m not going to let myself down. Thank you all!
The crowd roars loudly as Roy waves to the crowd, nods at Chad to let him know he’s done speaking, and steps down off the stage. The scene cuts to black.
