I felt the sun beat down on my face as I stood outside the tiny arena. I had my eyes closed as my head was tilted up into the sky and a light breeze blew across my face. I inhaled deeply and let it out as I bounced on my heels slowly, preparing myself, my mind and my body for stepping into the building. It was a house show for WCF and it was my chance to make an impression in the company. They had called me up a few days before to see if I would be willing to step into the ring for a tryout match. I jumped at the chance and I drove all the way from Tampa, where I had been training, to outside of Pittsburgh for the show. I had on a pink booty shorts with a matching pink top. My hair was down on my shoulders and I couldn't help but be nervous. This was what I had been working for the last few years. I wanted to be in a major company and this was my moment.
I had started out in the business as a valet. I headed down to the ring for my then boyfriend, Lance Johnson, and helped him out. He taught me the basics and since I had been a fan my whole life I got more and more and more into it. I wanted to do more then just smile and help him out in case he got in trouble. I wanted to be in the ring myself, I wanted the spotlight on me so I signed up for a wrestling school. Of course my boyfriend didn't like that. He wanted me by his side and not doing my own thing... That was the end of that relationship. I trained, I worked as a valet for indy shows and I learned more and more. I had made a bit of a name for myself as a manager and now as a wrestler so when WCF called I knew I had finally made it. Even being considered for a spot on their roster was an honor.
Jimmy Wolf: Aubrey... It is time for your match?
I opened my eyes looking at the door at one of the road agents, Jimmy Wolf. I had told him to grab me when it was time to go and it was time. I smiled and I headed towards him with a smile on my face.
Aubrey Summers: Thanks, Jimmy... Not just for getting me either. Thanks for everything. I mean having a girl to do my hair before the match and someone to do my make-up too? This is kind of mind blowing. I'm used to doing whatever I can in the ladies room since there isn't a seperate room for the girls.
Jimmy Wolf: Ha! Well if you do get signed to WCF then you better get used to this treatment. Honestly this arena kind of sucks and the one we are working in Oley for Slam is way nicer. We did switch the card around a bit tonight though. That girl we were going to have you face got hurt last night but we got another guy we had our eye on.
Aubrey Summers: Cool. I don't who or what you put out there against me. Well I might mind if you put like some big name but another person trying out seems fair.
Jimmy Wolf: Yeah, it is a tryout match so it'll be one on one with two possible futuer WCF stars. Anyways you better head out there. You're music will be playing in a minute.
Aubrey Summers: That's awesome. I'll see you in a few minutes then.
I turned, heading through the hallway towards the gorilla position. My heart was racing in my chest and I knew that if I messed this up I might not get another chance. This match was for my future as a wrestler. I wouldn't have to work as a manager anymore unless I wanted to too if I could win this. I needed to do more then win though. I needed to dominate and do everything possible to make sure I was the clear winner. After a short walk I heard my music start and I headed out without even thinking. Right away the crowd gave me a decent response. I did my own thing on the way to the ring, shaking my booty and having some fun with the crowd. I wasn't the type to talk trash or hate on the crowd. They were paying to see me and I wanted to give them as much fun as possible. When I got to the ring and I saw the fans my heart calmed and I knew I could do this. It was my moment. Then the ring announcer said...
Ring Announcer: And her opponent from Tampa, Florida... Lance Johnson!
My mouth dropped open as I looked up and saw Lance heading through the curtain. I looked up at him and made eye contact. Right away he had a cocky smirk on his face as he posed a bit before heading to the ring. I looked over at the ring announcer then back over at Lance. Out of everyone in the indy scene they had to pick him for my tryout. Just my luck... Once he got into the ring he walked right up and me, looking down with that some smug grin.
Lance Johnson: Aubrey, baby... They called me down and told me I would have a tryout against you. I knew I couldn't say no. This is going to be fun.
My smile was now gone on my face. Lance had helped train me so he knew most of my moves, he knew how I went about wrestling and he knew me better then almost anyone.
Aubrey Summers: You couldn't of asked for a different opponent? I mean we don't have to do this right now. I could see if there is other options, Lance.
Lance Johnson: Other options? You dumped me because you thought you had what it takes and now you think I don't want to kick your ass. No... We are doing this.
Aubrey Summers: You wouldn't let me become a wrestler. You didn't give me a choice, Lance. I worked hard for this and it has been my dream since I was little. If you want to fight though then we will fight. I don't care if you are more experienced and know more about this business then me. I have a few things you don't have.
Lance Johnson: What's that? Some fake tits?
Aubrey Summers: No... I have a heart and I'm not a macho, selfish asshole like you.
Lance Johnson: Cute, Aubrey. Real cute...
Aubrey Summers: Plus I can last longer then a minute in bed.
I winked at him and my last comment had the desired effect as he swung his fist at me. I ducked down, leaping up and hitting him right in the face with a dropkick. With that the bell rung and the match was underway. It was a hard match, maybe the hardest I had been in up to that time and most of the match I'll admit was Lance beating me senseless. I wouldn't stay down though and I knew that I had to win. My dream was on the line. In the end I had him beat but the referee was knocked down that gave Lance the chance to hit me with the time keeper's bell before pinning me while grabbing my tights. Thankfully he was as dumb as I remember and I was able to grab the ropes. Lance had a bad temper and he went off when he didn't get the pin which gave me a chance to kick him square in the face and get a pin for myself. I had done it... I had won my WCF tryout match.
Ring Announcer: The winner of the match... Aubrey Summers!
I held my hand up in the air with a smile on my face as I held my forehead from where I was hit with the bell. There was a bit of blood on my hands but no matter how much I was bleeding this was my moment. I climbed up on the turnbuckle, celebrating with the fans who were on my side. I rolled out of the ring and headed to the back, not wanting to keep the show on hold for my own celebrating. Once in the back Jimmy was there with a grin on his face.
Jimmy Wolf: What was going on with you and that guy before the match?
Aubrey Summers: That guy is my exe... He really wanted to hurt me.
Jimmy Wolf: Your exe? Oh crap. I'm sorry about that. I could of got them to book you against someone else if I knew. You did great though. I was really impressed and I think the other agents were too. You have the look to be a star, the charisma and as it turns out you can kick some ass.
Aubrey Summers: Thanks! You think I seriously have a chance for a contract?
Jimmy Wolf: I think so and since you are easy to work with then that certainly helps. Of course it also depends on who else is out there tonight and how many spots were are looking to fill. We had a few people leave recently though and they are always looking for new Divas.
Aubrey Summers: I'll keep my fingers crossed... I would love a chance to work in WCF though. I don't know if I would ever be a top contender or anything but I like to think I can have fun with the fans and be something a bit different...
Lance Johnson: That was bullshit!
Both me and Jimmy turned as Lance walked out from backstage, holding his nose in his hand from where I kicked him. I took a step back, not really interested in getting into any kind of fight after I had just wrestled. Fighting in the ring was one thing but an actualy fight outside the ring I tried to avoid.
Aubrey Summers: I beat you fair and square. You were the one cheating out there.
Lance Johnson: I was cheating?! You probably slept with the ref or something to make him fast count like that.
Aubrey Summers: Fast count? You hit me in the head with a bell and then pulled my tights to try to pin me. Don't talk about cheating, Lance, you lost fair and square. Just admit it. You still did a good job though.
Lance Johnson: A good job? You are going to try to take my spot in WCF now... I have been doing this longer and I got you started.
Aubrey Summers: And I appreciate everything you did but tonight I was the better wrestler.
Lance Johnson: Don't you ever say you are better then me again, bitch.
Jimmy Wolf: Hey now! Enough Lance. You looked good out there but don't try to ruin Aubrey's moment, okay?
Lance Johnson: I see how it is... This isn't over, Aubrey.
He then put his hand back on his face, rubbing it as he headed back towards the guy's locker room area. I frowned a bit as I watched him go. I never knew how he had become so cold to me but it was over. I had moved on and living single while trying to move up in the wrestling industry.
Jimmy Wolf: Don't worry about him, doll.
Aubrey Summers: I'm not... I'm just trying to push it out of my head. I kind of wish I had some friends up here though so I could go celebrate. Can I buy you a drink maybe? I need someone to celebrate my win with.
Jimmy Wolf: A free drink from a beautiful woman? No way in hell I'm going to pass that up.
I laughed a bit as I rolled my eyes. He was about twenty years older then me but he was kind which could be rare on occasion. I usually didn't have problems at the club or the bar finding people to hang out with though. Guys usually found their way to me without too much effort.
Aubrey Summers: I'm going to jump in the shower and watch the rest of the show. I'll come find you once it is over.
Jimmy Wolf: Sounds good, doll. Enjoy the show. Don't worry about that asshole either.
Aubrey Summers: I'm not really. We had a rough break-up and he wanted me to help him from ringside instead of getting in the ring myself. I just wasn't happy just being a manager, it was fun but it just isn't the same. I'll see you in a bit though and we can chat more.
I smiled before I took a step towards my locker room. As I did I heard the roar from the crowd for the current match going on and I couldn't help but smile. The fans were so loud, so passionate and being inside that ring, even with Lance, was an amazing experience. Hopefully WCF liked what they saw though and would bring me in fulltime. If so then I knew that Slam each week would get a lot more fun with me on the roster.
