We open up within a pitch black room. An old TV clicks on with a brief burst of static. As the picture on the TV fades in, our view closes on the set. An old film shows men fighting to death in the ancient Roman Coliseum. The images are brutal, bloody and explicit, as we hear Doc speak in a voice over through the set. "Mankind has always been a violent, and bloody race. Starting from day one, the human race has carved a blood soaked path throughout history. Eventually being channeled into the gladiatorial battles of ancient Rome." The TV switches off, and the lights slowly come up as Doc enters the frame.
"It was once said in a nice little SciFi flick that wars don't make one great. Now not to poke holes in everyone's little green hero, but he was dead wrong. Great men are born in battle and hardened into their greatness through war. Men such as Napoleon Bonaparte, Alexander the Great, George Washington, and the Caesars of Rome, just to name a few.
At XIII, I enter into a little war with Mr. Travis Warner, a so called follower of the straight edge life style. I'm sorry, how can one live that way and not miss out on the pleasures of life? Sex is one of the many joys, you can't deny the feeling of your soul reaching and touching your partners. Deflowering a virgin is something everyone should experience in life at least once. The honor of introducing another person to the joy and pleasure sexual gratification brings cannot be matched, unless it is by the ecstasy of giving orgasms so strong that your mid transcends the physical plane of existence, and crosses into a higher plane of enlightenment.
Another joy in life is the first line of coke, the first hit of acid, or the first burn if a nicely aged single malt whisky. Drugs and alcohol are not new vices, but an older practice going back to ancient times. The practices of using drugs and alcohol have been bastardized from the semi religious use to a recreation habit."
Doc lights up a cigar, and sits upon an ornate high-backed chair. "Walking the Straight Edge path is impossible, it's like the edge of a blade, a straight razor for example. There is nothing to this life, we are only human, well most of us, and we cannot expect to change, or deny that. Attempting to follow this razor's edge will only get you cut. There is really only one way to go. To one side or the other, it doesn't matter, you'll fall."
Doc studies the cherry of his cigar, and holds up his other hand. Looking into the camera, he smiles, and extinguishes it on his palm. "You see Travis, this match is mine, and only one as cunning, and heartless as I am can win it. I have the ability to emotionally detach myself from any action I undertake. It doesn't matter if the person standing in my way is a stranger, a friend, or even my own flesh and blood. I can take out, and completely take apart my opponent with no remorse, and without even raising my heartbeat... Can you?" Doc stands up and walks out of the frame as the camera shot zooms in on the black TV...
