Our days were numbered by night,
On too many rooftops,
They said we’d burn so bright
We’d burn this city and go…
The scene opens up to Skyler Striker. It does not matter, this time, where he is or what he looks like. It’s the words that are important.
SS: Creeping Death… it’s been a while since I spoke to you, my friend. You’ve said a lot. You’ve done even more. You know the drill. You said it yourself. You are the best, you ARE the WCF. You’re not Logan, the former face of the WCF. You’re not me, the future of the WCF. You’re the present. You are the giveall, the endall, the alpha and omega of this era of wrestling. The very best. But you know what they taught us as children, Creeps. No matter how good you are, there’s always someone better. Even if you’re the best.
Skyler’s eyes, revealed to the camera, are their usual flaming red, his contacts inserted. Skyler also looks to have regained certain elements of his former self before the events with Jayden and Dylan.
SS: To be honest, Creeps, I never thought I’d make it past that second round in the WCF Series. I thought that you would be my end in that ring. I was petrified. But I went in anyway, and I did what I always do – I fought with my heart. And I won. I don’t know exactly how. I watched the tapes, Creeps. You’re a better wrestler than I am. I think I’ve had this conversation before. You’re a better wrestler all-round than I am. But I won and win regardless because I fight from the heart, with passion, not just to prove I can beat someone, not to prove that I’m the best, but to prove to myself that the heart, not the physical ability, is what wins matches.
Skyler looks away from the camera, distracted, but continue speaking.
SS: They say even the best makes mistakes. You made no physical mistakes in our match, Creeps. You had every advantage possible besides the heart. You made a judgmental mistake. You thought that because I had a different motive to you, because you were the best, that you would go in and be able to defeat me. But you didn’t. Your judgement was wrong. And once again, watching your tapes that you’ve sent me, Creeps, you’ve already made the biggest and worst mistake possible. You fail to realise, time and time again, that endurance, survival, tolerance, ability to withstand pain… they mean nothing in the grand scheme. You have more of all of those things than I do. Possibly the only characteristic in which I have a physical advantage over you is the fact that no matter how many times you knock me down, I’ll get right back on my goddamn feet, even if I’m unconscious. But in the grand scheme, my heart is what will push me forward and bring me out of that chamber. Dead or alive, I will exit with a win. Anything less is unacceptable.
Skyler laughs to himself, facing the camera again. A small white dove flies in and perches on the windowsill, and Skyler looks at it momentarily before speaking.
SS: The scars on my legs, Creeps, aren’t that different to the scars from your incident with the weed-whacker. One from Vice, one from Blades, both great opponents. I want you, Creeping Death, in this chamber, to leave me with a memory. Leave me with another scar. Show you were a worthy opponent. I will make my mark on you by the end of our match, Creeps.
Skyler pauses for a second.
SS: We’re not that different, Creeping Death. We both want similar things. One is to win. Two is to prove that our motivation is the reason we win. Third is that we both want to put on a match that neither, or anyone watching, will ever forget. So no matter who wins, CD, or who loses, I want you to promise me that you are giving one hundred percent. I want not to blow the roof off the chamber, not to get a standing ovation, but to make this match so good that we burn the entire city down.
Another pause.
SS: I don’t honestly actually care anymore. I’m to eager to get into that chamber. I want to go, right now. It’s too close for discomfort. I’m ready, CD. I’m waiting. But know that I will win, Creeps, because I have three things you don’t. One is the most powerful heart in wrestling today, and physical ability will never overcome that. Second is a secret weapon that you don’t even know about yet. And third, most of all, Creeping Death…
Another pause, Striker has a grin on his face and the competitive fire burns in his eyes, to an extreme never seen before.
SS: Is that while you may be Creeping Death, the best in the business, and the very substance of the WCF… while you may be all that…
And the final pause for dramatic effect.
SS: Is that I’m Skyler goddamn Striker.
And Skyler switches the camera off.
