Yagami Apartments wasn't exactly the most glamorous place for the co-star of a soon-to-be nationally syndicated wrestling show to live. Ellis, however, didn't need all that much. Just a place to store the meager belongings she had, to meet with her new manager-by-fate Kikyo-chan, and hide away to her own devices when the weight of this world was too much. All that were thrown in in the deal were a television, a couch, and a bed that were all about three years out of date. But a corpse doesn't care about it's coffin, so Ellis insisted to Kikyo that the place was fine, even after the two had gotten a good look at it. So apartment 26, Yagami Apartments was the new address for the broken down scion of death.
Only three keys in the world opened that 'coffin'. One belonged to Ellis herself, one to Kikyo, and one to the apartment's super, Mr. Dustman. Kikyo's key hit the lock as she let herself in with a cheerful "Konichiwa" and a laptop cradled underneath one arm. However, a surprised look came over her face as she looked around.
"Ellis-sama! I hope you haven't finished unpacking yet, because if you have, I think you've been robbed already!"
"No.", was the raspy reply from the other room. "I just don't have much. My clothes, my guitar, my CD player... my scythe..."
Kikyo-chan nodded, taking a second to pull a notepad out of her pocket and jot down "Buy Ellis Stuffs" at the bottom of a rather long to-do list before making her way over to where the death rattle originated, placing her laptop on the kitchen island as she eventually made her way around to the bathroom. Inside was Ellis, lying in the bathtub, cold grey eyes closed. She didn't seem all too surprised that Kikyo had walked in on her, or embarrassed... she didn't have much need to be. The water she was bathing in was so thick and saturated by red coloration, that past her exposed head and neck, you couldn't see a thing, body completely hidden by the red liquid. The sight gave Kikyo pause, and sent a shiver down her spine.
Ellis could almost feel the young prodigy's fear at what she might have done, so before her fears could manifest themselves any further, a long scarred arm emerged from the "bloodbath" and gripped a small box of strawberry bath beads lying on her counterside, holding them up. The sigh of relief could almost be heard in 25 and 27 as the actual scent from the batch became apparent.
"You really do worry me sometimes Ellis-sama."
"What do you want?"
"Um, well, my friend from Youtube has uploaded Cairo's and Biggs' most recent promos. I was wondering if you want to..."
"I already spoke to the world once. That's enough. It hurts to speak."
"But aren't you interested in hearing what they..."
"I know what they're saying. They're saying I'm worthless. That I'm a freak."
"And don't you want to respond to that?"
"Who am I to say they're wrong?"
Kikyo sighed again, looking down at the ground, then excusing from the room and back over to the kitchen island as Ellis emerged, toweled herself off, and emerged minutes later in her usual jeans and t-shirt. The calming feeling of that small, flat bump in her jeans letting her know that her boxcutter was still there. Kikyo-chan looked over at the scythe laying in the corner as Ellis switched on the television.
"You're still going to keep that?"
"You said it yourself. If I'm going to be the reaper, I might as well have a scythe."
"Yeah... but I meant for the promo. You know, your gimmick."
Ellis' cold dead eyes looked over at Kikyo, her expression blank.
"Gimmick?"
"Yeah. Living dead gimmick. Like Taker-sama."
"Who said anything about a gimmick?"
"Ellis-sama..."
"I know it's hard for you to accept what I am. I don't think I've still fully accepted it. But unlike you, I don't have a choice. You could up and leave the country tonight and I wouldn't blame you one bit."
"I'm not gonna leave ya, Ellis-sama. I owe you too much. You saved my life three times, you avenged my being attacked..."
"Don't feel like you owe me anything."
Conversation, as it always seemed to with Ellis, hit the wall, so the two just sat in silence for a while before the barely-muffled yawning of little Kikyo indicated it was time for her to get back to the South Ashford Heights Hotel. Ellis was alright with the concept of Kikyo staing at Yagami Apartments with her, if only to let "Claudio" keep an eye on "Ambellina", but Kikyo knew the key to being a good manager is to anticipating her charge's need. And Ellis' biggest need these days what the need to be alone when she needed it. Before Kikyo was able to make her leave, however, a question emerged in the corpse girl's scarred brain.
"Why do you have a key to my apartment?"
"Um... because... in case there's an emergency... in case you... I mean..."
"Suicide watch. I've heard that term before."
"Would you like me to give my key back to Dustman-sempai?"
"No... it's a good idea actually."
Nothing more could be said to warm the ice-cold chill in the room, so Kikyo, laptop in hand, made her leave as Ellis stared at the cold blank screen, hoping she could fall asleep before she could fall into the back of her own mind, all the fears and hatred that lay there...
