Well, thanks, Don. This dinner was a great idea.
The video cuts in with Hank Brown sitting across the table from Don Bradley in a fancy steak restaurant. Both men are dressed up and are slightly leaning back with looks of satisfaction on their faces as they look down at the empty plates before them. Don pulls out a tin container holding a couple of cigars. He holds the open container out to Hank who looks around nervously before shaking his head no. Don pulls his out and lights it up as a busboy comes by and cleans off their table. As soon as Don blows out the first puff of smoke, the busboy stops dead. He looks over at Don.
Busboy
Sir, there's no smoking allowed in this restaurant. As a matter of fact, there's a nationwide ban on smoking in pub---
Don reaches in one of his jacket pockets and pulls out a crisp, folded-over 100-dollar bill and hands it to the busboy.
Don Bradley
Make yourself useful and bus another table.
Busboy
Yes, but, you can't smo---
Don Bradley
Son, are you seriously going to accept a bribe from me over this cigar and then try to fuss at me anyway?
Busboy
I didn't accept a bribe, you hand---
Don Bradley
Then give me back the money.
The busboy starts to say something and then stops himself and walks away to another table. Don turns back to Hank Brown who chuckles.
Don Bradley
So, like you said, this dinner was a great idea?
Hank Brown
Yeah, it hit the spot. You were right about this place. It has the best steaks in Texas. It's too bad that Hector couldn't make it tonight.
Don shrugs.
Don Bradley
Yeah, there was no way he was making it. He's on a flight to Maryland. Should be landing soon.
Hank Brown
Oh, he went ahead of you?
Don Bradley
Yeah, he was training all afternoon for the match. He normally takes the day off on Saturdays but since Slam was moved to a different night this week, he had to wrestle tonight and he's gotta train some more in the morning so he was getting up there to Maryland so he can catch some sleep.
Hank Brown
You're heading up there though, right?
Don Bradley
Oh yeah, first thing in the morning I have a flight. I will definitely be there, I'm still his manager. For one more show. Then I will be replaced by "the new guy" right after the show.
Hank Brown
What do you mean right after the show? I thought the new manager doesn't debut until TEN? You guys still have one more interview to do.
Don Bradley smiles.
Hank Brown
You've already had it?
Don Bradley shakes his head no.
Don Bradley
No, no, no. The decision has already been made.
Hank Brown leans forward.
Hank Brown
What?
Don Bradley
I got a sneak peek at the agency's third candidate. I got fed up and called both the agency and the candidate and canceled the interview. I made a phone call to the person I was going to pick had the interviews all fell through.
Hank Brown leans back and gives Don a "I don't believe you" look.
Hank Brown
I don't believe you.
Don raises an eyebrow.
Don Bradley
What do you mean?
Hank Brown
I've heard that the new manager is all part of a plan. If the new manager is part of a plan, you're not going to just leave this up to a chance interview and hope you get a prospect that fits what you're looking for. Don, I've known you for years. I've known you long enough to know that you're smarter than that. You wouldn't leave the future of a client in the hands of chance.
Don Bradley laughs.
Don Bradley
You're right, Hank. I can't get anything by you.
Hank leans in again.
Hank Brown
So tell me. Who is it? Who is the new manager of Hector Rodriguez? I can't wait until the pay-per-view. I know it's only one week away, but I can't wait that long.
Don Bradley grins.
Don Bradley
Good, because you won't have to wait that long. Hector's new manager will be there this week on Slam.
Hank Brown's jaw nearly hits the table.
Hank Brown
Are you serious??? The manager will be there a week early?
Don Bradley
Yep. Here is what's going down. Hector's new manager will be there tomorrow night at Slam. The new manager will make an appearance at Slam. Hector will officially have a new manager after the match tomorrow night, but I will still be conducting all interviews and making the public appearances with Hector until his match at TEN. When Hector walks out to the ring to face Conviction and Ace Slaughter for the US title, the person walking out with him will be his new manager. At THAT point is when any and all public appearances and interviews with Hector will be conducted by my replacement.
Hank Brown sits back in his chair.
Hank Brown
You know, I noticed how in all of that you haven't dropped one hint as to who it will be. You didn't refer to Hector's manager as male or female. You didn't refer to the manager as a 'them' or 'they' either.
Don Bradley smiles.
Don Bradley
Win or lose tomorrow night in that tag team match, the new manager will make an appearance. What the new manager will say will shock everyone. If there was a single fan or a fellow wrestler in the back who WASN'T paying attention to Hector, after the new manager talks, EVERYONE will be paying full attention to Hector Rodriguez.
Hank Brown
So, no hints at all?
Don Bradley
None. Honestly, I could have kept the whole thing to myself and just let everyone's jaws hit the floor tomorrow night when the new manager appears, but I decided to be an ass and tease everyone who is watching our interview right now.
Hank Brown
Ok, fine. I guess I'll just have to wait until tomorrow night. Speaking of that, we're one night away from Hector and Knox vs. Conviction and Ace. What do you think about Hector and Knox's chances against Hector's opponents at the pay-per-view.
Don Bradley
Ace Slaughter is a proven wrestler just like Hector Rodriguez. They've been around for a few months. They've both wrestled a dozen matches. Both men have wrestled with big names here in WCF and they've both wrestled in title matches, the only difference being that Ace Slaughter is the one who is wearing gold around his waist. That will change next week at TEN, but that is then...this is now. I've heard people talk about how both men have partners who have wrestled elsewhere in the wrestling world and that they're not newcomers to the sport, but in my eyes....here in WCF, they are. No offense to Fort Knox and I could personally care less about that loud mouth Conviction, but until you've proven yourself in WCF or gotten a good many matches under your belt, you're still a rookie in my eyes.
There's nothing wrong with being a rookie though. Hell, Jay Price won a TV title in one of his first matches. I'm sure if we dig deep enough into the WCF archives, we could find plenty of wrestlers who walked in fresh to WCF and won a title quickly. or made a name for themselves quickly. The thing is, there's one difference between Conviction and Fort Knox. Fort Knox is a winner. He's not like that shmuck Conviction who couldn't even defeat Hector Rodriguez on your own.
You sat there last week running your mouth like some kind of hotshot. You sat there talking about how Hector was nothing more than a mere warm-up and then you go and just as Hector is going to win, Ace Slaughter runs in and helps you out. That's right, he didn't interfere. He helped you. He was sitting back there watching you get your ass handed to you by Hector and then ran out and helped you just to get at Hector for attacking him earlier in the night. A justified attack I might add.
It's kinda funny that you get added to this US title match. Hector earned his way into the match, whereas you weaseled your way into a shot at the US title.
Hank Brown
Well, what do you think Ace Slaughter has been doing to get prepared for the match this week?
Don Bradley
What the hell do you think he's been doing? Have you not been watching what he's done on TV this week? He's been playing Pictionary with a god dang midget, an air-headed cheerleader reject, and a metrosexual who makes googly eyes at Ace every time he's in front of the camera. Slaughter Society? He's got the society part right because each one of them is a walking stereotype of what you see walking down the street these days.
Ace or Oblivion or whichever retarded personality it was talking said something about how he can be called undisciplined or psycho or whatever. I can see that you're brinigng up references to the hardcore match a while back when you were called the same thing when you screamed every time you were on camera. Not long after that you must have been on medication or something. Whatever it was that you were doing, you've apparently stopped now. But see, that's fine if you have all these different personalities, Ace. Bring them all this week at Slam. Let's give them all a chance in the ring against Hector and Fort Knox. That way we can all see which personality of yours will do the best in the ring with Hector. We want to give the fans the best match at the pay-per-view so we'll see which one will give everyone the best bang for their buck.
On Slam, Hector is going to give everyone watching a taste of what TEN is going to be like. Hector Rodriguez and Fort Knox will walk out of Slam victorious. As it's already been said, we all know that the tag team match at Slam is just Seth's way of getting Hector softened up for his match with you at TEN. See, Seth booked this match because he doesn't believe you and Conviction can keep Hector from getting the US title at the pay-per-view. Hell, it's obvious that putting Conviction in there is another of Seth's ways of keeping Hector from the belt.
It's pretty bad when the owner of the company has such little faith in one of his top champions to hold onto his belt that he has to throw all these obstacles in the way of the challenger to said title belt. Enjoy looking at my mug while you can and jawing back at me. WCF will be in for a rude awakening when Hector's new manager debuts. Pay close attention, Ace. Conviction. You will get a preview of what you both are getting yourselves into by being in the ring with Hector Rodriguez when you hear what his new manager has to say.
Don Bradley's cell phone suddenly rings. He looks down at it and pushes a button. He then lifts it to his ear.
Don Bradley
Hector. Si. Manana. Adios.
Don hangs up the phone as he takes another puff on the cigar. The video slowly cuts out as Don and Hank make some small talk.
