The video cuts back on again in the office of Roger Hunt. It's not the same day as the last time we were here as everyone is wearing different clothes and they're dressed up more than usual. Even Hector is dressed up as he's wearing a suit and tie along with his Punisher mask....which obviously looks a little strange. The normal furniture in the room is cleared out, replaced by a table and some chairs. On one side of the table are three chairs, each one occupied by Roger Hunt, Don Bradley, and Hector Rodriguez, respectively. The other side of the table there is an empty seat. Hector twiddles his thumbs while Roger and Don talk to each other.
Roger Hunt
Yeah, this guy seems like he'll be a good fit. Smart, high class.
Don Bradley
I'm not so sure, Roger. Don't have a good feeling about him.
Roger Hunt
Well, let's give him a chance before we write him off the list. If this guy doesn't work out, I have a couple more people and after that it will be up to you, Don.
Don nods. As if on cue, the intercom comes to life as Annie speaks through it.
Annie
Mr. Hunt, Mr. Jackson has arrived. Shall I send him back.
Hector jumps up, knocking his chair over when he realizes that he hears Annie but does not see her. Don gives him a weird look as he picks his chair back up and sits back down in it.
Roger Hunt
Yeah, Annie. Send him back here.
The door to Roger's office opens up and in walks a man in a business suit with slicked-back hair and a pair of wire-rim glasses resting on his nose. There is a distinguished air about him or something like that, just thinking of something there that would make him appear to be smart and dignified. Use your imagination, if you will. Roger reaches his hand across the table, gestures for the man to sit down and holds his hand out to shake. Mr. Jackson takes his hand and shakes it, then shakes Don's hand. Hector doesn't shake his hand as he has just realized that his chair swivels and is spinning around in circles while looking at the ceiling.
Roger Hunt
Mr. Jackson, I would like to thank you for coming down here today. The agency thought you might be a great fit for Mr. Rodriguez over here.
Don Bradley notices Hector spinning in the chair and he grabs the arm of it and gestures for Hector to quit. Hector waves at Mr. Jackson.
Mr. Jackson
Well, I hope I am the right fit for being the new manager for your client. I admire your work on the television, Mr. Rodriguez. You are quite the powerhouse in the ring.
Roger Hunt
I don't mean to be disrespectful here, but why is it that a Harvard grad who graduated at the near top of his class would want to be a manager of a professional wrestler?
Mr. Jackson
Wrestling is in my blood, Mr. Hunt.
Don Bradley's eyebrow raises as he looks at Mr. Jackson.
Don Bradley
Oh really? Do you have relatives who are in our business?
Mr. Jackson shakes his head.
Mr. Jackson
No, sir, we have just been fans of the sport for so long. I will be the first one actually involved in the business if I am hired on as Mr. Rodriguez's new manager.
Don Bradley
Ok, well, let's cut down to the chase here and just see what you're made of. We would like for you to pretend to be the manager for Hector's match this week against Conviction. Act as if you're conducting a mock interview before the camera for the match. Roger, call in the cameraman.
Roger Hunt reaches over and hits the intercom button.
Roger Hunt
Annie, send in the cameraman.
:::A FEW MINUTES LATER:::
The video comes back on as the cameraman has just finished setting up. Everyone is still in Roger's office, but Mr. Jackson and Hector are standing beside each other in front of the camera. They are given the go-ahead signal and Mr. Jackson begins to speak.
Mr. Jackson
Hello there Wrestling Championship Federation fans. I am Mr. Jackson here with my newest protege, Hector Rodriguez. He has a wrestling match in the quote-unquote "squared circle" tonight against a gentlemen by the name of Conviction. Conviction, sir, you called out my client Hector Rodriguez...or as you may know him by...The Mexican Machine. You called him out, sir, and claimed and I quote "Besides his win tonight that was controversial to say the least, from what I’ve heard Hector has taken the choke and lost every big match he’s ever been in." Well, sir, I will have to disagree with you on multiple points here. First of all, you speak of his big chokes as if they are to speak against his ability as a wrestler. I will have to counter this statement by pointing out that in nearly all of his big matches that he lost, there was disrespectful outside interference or underhanded schemes involved. Rarely ever has my client lost a big match due to his own lack of wrestling ability. I will also point out to you sir that it is quite ironic that you speak of his big matches when I would have to go so far as to say that tonight is a big match for you.
Here you are a man who has just recently signed a contract with Mr. Seth Lerch and Wrestling Championship Federation and the first thing you do is go after one of its biggest superstars. You're going after a man who has defeated former world champions. A man who has faced some of the biggest stars here in Wrestling Championship Federation, and a man who is slowly working his way up the ladder of success here. You're facing the number one contender to the United States championship. You, sir, have a big match ahead of you. You, sir, have the opportunity to become the biggest choke artist in wrestling history.
You come out to the ring with this, what is it...Rough Riders music? Is that what you are, sir? Are you rough when you're riding? Is this to say that when someone is in the car with you, that it will be a bumpy ride? Conviction, are you one of those types who feels that he's living dangerously and is merely doing nothing more than purposely hitting all the speed bumps at high velocity or swerving to purposely hit all the potholes in the road? If that is true, then I am afraid that Hector must truly be in danger from someone as dangerous as yourself.
Mr. Jackson stifles a laugh at his own joke.
Mr. Jackson
Conviction, I have calculated the odds against both yourself and my client and I have to say that the probability of you walking out of tonight's match with the victory are extremely slim. I would venture to say that the better bet would be for Hector Rodriguez to place you upon his shoulder, run across the ring and plant you...ROUGHLY...upon the canvas. That, in my esteemed opinion, would be a true definition of a ROUGH...RIDER.
Mr. Jackson gives the signal to cut and then goes back to sit at the table across from Don Bradley and Roger Hunt.
Roger Hunt
Hmm. Not bad, Mr. Jackson. Not bad. I'll give you a call if we decide to go with you, because even if we do, we have others we need to speak to also.
Mr. Jackson nods and shakes the hands of both men. He then turns and walks out of the office. Don Bradley turns to Roger Hunt.
Don Bradley
Yeah, I'm not gonna lie to you here, Roger. I fell asleep halfway through that. I think before I can make my decision I'll have to review the tape.
Roger Hunt laughs as he claps Don on the shoulder with his hand. The video slowly fades out as Hector peeks through the blinds as Mr. Jackson exits the building.
Roger Hunt
Yeah, this guy seems like he'll be a good fit. Smart, high class.
Don Bradley
I'm not so sure, Roger. Don't have a good feeling about him.
