A New Year, A New Confederacy
The holidays are finally over, and a new year has begun. Now, I could do like every other pretentious jackass out there and recap what I feel were the highlights of 2009. I could give y’all my thoughts on our new president and his performance so far, or talk about all the celebrities that bought the farm in the last twelve months. But that shit’s boring, and everyone else does it anyway; around here, I strive to be original.
So instead, I devote my first entry of 2010 to my favorite wrestling organization: the WCF. Like the immortal phoenix, the Wrestling Championship Federation seems to have a habit of self-immolation, only to rise in glory from its own ashes again and again. But it’s been going strong for a whole year now, and things are only getting better as we head into a brand-new decade.
Part of the reason for that, IMNSHO, is that the esteemed Mr. Lerch had the good sense to sign two very interesting individuals to his roster. First, the Inveterate Confederate, Johnny Reb, who set about making his mark on the WCF right away, and after a three month feud with wrestling legends Dake Ken and Torture, ended up capturing the World Title. Oh, those were exciting times! Granted, it only lasted for a month, but a title reign is a title reign, and it proved that Johnny Reb is destined for great things.
Then along came an old friend and rival: Doc Henry. Anyone familiar with their history knows that Henry and Reb had a bitter feud that dragged on for months over at the now-defunct Global Wrestling Coalition; a feud that began when Reb sold out for his first-ever shot at championship gold, and frequently spilled over into both men’s personal lives. It wasn’t a big surprise that Henry, following an unexplained hiatus from the ring, found his way to the WCF. And like two men who know each other so well often do, the two put their differences aside and formed an alliance.
2009 was a year of growth for Johnny Reb, both personally and professionally. Losing the World Title gave him an opportunity to, well, frankly… to pull his head out of his ass. He found momentum again, and formed a tag team partnership with Doc Henry just in time for the biggest pay-per-view of the year.
The New Confederacy walked out of One as the newly-crowned tag champs, and will begin the year defending their hard won titles against Masaya Mikami and Ryan Daniels. With the Team of Torture now officially disbanded, there’s really no glue holding this makeshift tag team together. Mikami and Daniels are clearly indifferent to one another, at best, and have a history of coming up short when facing the New Confederacy. This time won’t be any different.
United, these two men are virtually peerless within the squared circle. So as we head into the New Year, I look forward to seeing Reb and Henry carry those tag titles proudly for months to come.

All right! First reply of the decade! I gotta say, Rebel, that maybe you’re right. Henry and Reb have an undeniable chemistry together, each playing off the other’s natural charisma. Did you see the promos they cut heading into One? Classic!

Yeah, I didn’t really get it. There were terrorists in Los Angeles? WTF? How often does that happen?

Dude, really? The whole thing was an homage to 24! Still the best show on television! You should check it out sometime. But anyway, can’t wait to watch Slam… Now I have to choose whether I should TiVo Heroes and watch Slam, or vice versa….

…back to the subject at hand… Regarding the New Confederacy, all I really wanted to say was: It’s about f*cking time!
