Continued from the previous entry: Love Conquers All
Christmas evening, Friday, December 25th
Christmas is a day that people across the world anticipate and celebrate. Christmas is among the holiest of Christian holidays as it's the day that commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ. It’s a day that epitomizes the spirit of giving, and a day that most people spend at home with their family. Bobby Cairo was not as lucky as most people today. Cairo was working, delivering packages for Federal Express. You might be surprised by the number of people who wait until the last minute to send Christmas gifts to their loved ones; then again you might not be surprised if you’re one of those people.
Cairo might have been hard at work today, but there’s plenty of reason for him to celebrate this Christmas. Today was Cairo’s final day working for FedEx. He's decided that he would rather collect generous appearance fees for showing up at wrestling conventions instead of continuing to deliver packages for a living. The biggest reason for Cairo to be happy this Christmas is because tonight he will be taking his girlfriend Emily Hotchkiss out for a special evening.
Emily works as an administrator for FedEx. In fact that’s where she and Cairo met and struck up their blossoming romance. Emily doesn’t know about Cairo's decision to leave FedEx, and Cairo doesn’t plan on telling her... yet. If Cairo tells Emily tonight, it could put a damper on the evening. Cairo can’t take that risk. Cairo will tell Emily when the time is right, but tonight is a night for the two of them to celebrate their relationship.
As Cairo showers before his big date he thinks about all of the planning that he’s put into this evening with Emily, and how his hard work is about to come to fruition. Cairo always gets giddy when he thinks about spending time with Emily, but tonight is even more significant because the two of them will take the next step in their relationship. Tonight Bobby Cairo and Emily Hotchkiss will consummate their love… at least that’s Cairo’s plan. Cairo’s intentions are pure. It’s one thing to sweep a woman off her feet by whispering promises of sweet nothings into her ears, but Cairo is committed to making a long-lasting relationship. Cairo is not interested in succumbing to the throes of lust simply for his own base gratification. Cairo wants to make sweet, passionate love with the woman that he loves, cementing their union by expressing their deepest, most intimate feelings for each other. Bobby Cairo is a romantic at heart.
After Cairo pops out of the shower and dries himself off, he grabs his Norelco shaver and quickly shaves. Cairo gets rid of that five o'clock shadow then he splashes on some Old Spice. Now that he’s showered, shaved and smelling good, Cairo dresses up in the finely tailored Italian suit that his father Victor loaned him for tonight’s special occasion, a black suit with white pinstripes that makes Cairo look absolutely dapper. As Cairo combs his hair into place, he feels a sense of anticipation. Cairo’s heart is fluttering and his loins are aching, Emily is the sole focus in his mind. Cairo has been dreaming of this night for weeks and tonight his dreams will become reality. A couple of final touches with the tweezers and Cairo is ready to hit the road. Cairo grabs his coat and walks out the door.
Cairo hops into his 1974 Cadillac Eldorado, pulls out of the apartment complex and starts the drive to Emily’s house. There’s a chill in the air on this Christmas evening, but the driving conditions are clear. Normally Cairo would blast music on the radio while he’s driving but tonight he drives in complete silence, as he imagines how the night will play out. He can’t wait to pick up Emily and get the evening started. Cairo has taken himself broke to put this night together, but he’s certainly not lamenting. Emily is worth every penny and so much more. She deserves the world and Cairo wants to give it to her.
After a few minutes of allowing his mind to wander, Cairo realizes that he’s almost at Emily’s house. Cairo checks his watch and then makes the final turn onto Emily’s street. Cairo parks in front of Emily’s house after a seemingly shorter drive than usual on this special evening. Cairo checks his hair in the mirror and sprays some Binaca in his mouth. Cairo carefully picks up the bouquet of roses from the passenger’s seat and then exits the vehicle. Cairo is nervous yet excited as he walks along the path leading to the front door of the house.
Cairo has arrived a few minutes early at Emily’s house in order to give himself a chance to chat with Emily’s mother June for the first time. It’s a calculated risk. Emily has told Cairo many good things about her mother, most notably the fact that June worked two and sometimes three jobs at a time to support Emily and her siblings after Emily’s father died from cancer.
Cairo rings the doorbell and makes sure to stand up straight, proudly displaying the bouquet of roses in hand. The front door opens and a strikingly attractive, forty-something woman appears in the doorway. The woman has her blond hair pinned up in a bun and she’s wearing a red and white Christmas dress, red stockings and black heels. Cairo is taken aback by the woman’s beauty and stares for a few moments before the woman breaks the silence.
June Hotchkiss: “Hello, I’m June. I’m Emily’s mother. Are you Bobby?”
Bobby Cairo: “Oh yes, I’m sorry for staring. I was expecting a, um….”
June Hotchkiss: “An older woman?”
Bobby Cairo: “Well, yes.”
June smiles at Bobby and motions for him to come into the house.
June Hotchkiss: “Emily’s father and I were married when we were teenagers. I became pregnant with Emily during our honeymoon. It wasn’t easy having a child at such a young age, but I wouldn’t trade my darling Emily for anything in this world. Can I take your jacket, Bobby?”
Bobby Cairo: “Thank you, Mrs. Hotchkiss. I can certainly see where Emily gets her beauty from.”
June laughs as she takes a seat on the couch in the living room.
June Hotchkiss: “You’re quite a charming young man, Bobby, but please call me June. I don’t feel like I’m old enough to be Mrs. Hotchkiss.”
Bobby Cairo: “Yes, Mrs. Hotch—I mean June. Oh by the way, I brought you these roses. Actually, I brought you a rose. The bouquet is for Emily, but I did bring you a single long-stem rose as a gift.”
Cairo hands June a single, red rose. June raises it to her noise and inhales.
June Hotchkiss: “It smells lovely, Bobby. That’s very sweet of you, thank you. Would you excuse me for a minute? I want to put this in water.”
June disappears into the kitchen and reemerges moments later with the rose in a glass vase. She places the vase down onto the coffee table in front of the couch.
June Hotchkiss: “That looks lovely on the coffee table, doesn’t it? Oh Bobby, I’m sorry, darling. I meant to tell you that Emily will be downstairs in a few minutes. She’s still getting ready. You know how women can be when we’re getting dressed up for a big date.”
June winks and smiles at Cairo. Cairo smiles and nods his head.
June Hotchkiss: “Would you like a drink, Bobby?”
Cairo’s ears perk up.
Bobby Cairo: “Do you have Monster Energy Drink?”
June chuckles.
June Hotchkiss: “We’re fresh out of Monster, but can I interest you in a Red Bull?”
Bobby Cairo: “Oh yes, that sounds wonderful. Thank you.”
June walks back into the kitchen for a minute and returns with a glass of white wine in one hand and a 16 oz. can of Red Bull in the other.
June Hotchkiss: “Here you go, Bobby.”
June hands Cairo the Red Bull.
Bobby Cairo: “Thank you very much, June. Oh you buy the big cans? That’s awesome!”
June Hotchkiss: “Emily buys them actually, I don’t drink Red Bull myself. I can’t be all hopped up on energy drinks at my age!”
June laughs as Cairo cracks open the Red Bull and takes a deep gulp.
June Hotchkiss: “Good stuff, huh?”
Bobby Cairo: “Oh it’s great, thank you. You know I just want to say that it’s an honor to meet you, June. Emily has told me about the sacrifices that you made when she was growing up, and I want you to know that I think you’re one hell of a courageous woman. My hat’s off to you, madam.”
Cairo makes a cap-tipping gesture with his hand and June smiles at him.
June Hotchkiss: “Thank you, Bobby. That’s awfully sweet of you to say that. I just did what I had to do for my family, to support my kids and make sure they had a good life. Emily was my little star. She sacrificed her own social life to watch after her siblings and make sure they stayed out of trouble. She was a great student, too. She busted her little butt to make sure that she would get into a good school and have the chance to make a career for herself. I admire that girl. She’s my hero.”
June nods her head.
Bobby Cairo: “You know what I think? I think she learned from her mother.”
June and Cairo smile at each other and the conversation suddenly stops. They sit on the couch in silence, taking occasional sips from their drinks, until Emily walks into the room a few minutes later.
Emily Hotchkiss: “Bobby, you’re here!”
Cairo rises to his feet to greet his date with a hug and a kiss. He also takes a moment to look her over. Emily looks absolutely divine. The radiant, beaming smile upon Emily’s face is clearly another trait that she inherited from her mother, in addition to her striking looks and tireless work ethic. Emily’s naturally beautiful face is free of cosmetic product except for the lipstick that adorns her soft, plush lips. The red of the lipstick contrasts Emily’s light blue eyes, the eyes of an angel that can read a man’s soul. Emily’s brunette locks are curled and flowing freely down the back of her black, spaghetti-strap gown. The gown contours her bosom and displays a healthy yet discreet portion of her full, luscious, heaving breasts. Emily’s long, silky legs are adorned in black nylon stockings from her waist to her feet, where she’s sporting a pair of black open-toe pumps that showcase her freshly pedicured toes. Emily is a shapely young lady and she's tall, too. She stands six feet, only a couple of inches shorter than Cairo.
After taking in the splendorous spectacle of his girlfriend, Cairo says the first thing that comes to mind.
Bobby Cairo: “You look stunning, my dear.”
Emily smiles at Cairo.
Emily Hotchkiss: “Thank you, Bobby. You look very handsome. That’s a great suit.”
Bobby Cairo: “It’s actually my father’s, he loaned it to me.”
Emily Hotchkiss: “Oh, that was nice of him. He has great taste.”
Emily turns toward her mother.
Emily Hotchkiss: “Bobby and I are going to head out now, alright mom?”
June Hotchkiss: “OK, baby. Just remember, you’ve got yourself a good man... take care of him!”
Emily blushes.
Emily Hotchkiss: “Thanks, mom. He is a very special man. I’ll take great care of him.”
Emily and Cairo take each other’s hands and together they walk toward the front door. Suddenly Cairo stops in his tracks.
Bobby Cairo: “Oh, Emily, I almost forgot. I brought you something.”
Cairo walks over to the coffee table, picks up the bouquet of roses and hands them to Emily.
Emily Hotchkiss: “Oh my, these are lovely, Bobby. You really shouldn’t have gone through the trouble.”
Bobby Cairo: “It was no trouble, my dear. A beautiful woman deserves beautiful roses. I brought one for your mom, too.”
Cairo points out the vase holding the single rose on the coffee table.
Emily Hotchkiss: “Oh, Bobby, that was so sweet of you. Isn’t he a charmer, mom?”
June Hotchkiss: “He is, darling. He’s too good to be true!”
Emily laughs as she checks the clock on the wall and then looks at her mother.
Emily Hotchkiss: “Mom, I’m sorry to burden you, but can you put these roses in a vase? We really have to run.”
June Hotchkiss: “Oh that’s no burden, dear. I’ll get those for you. You kids go and have a lovely evening, OK?”
Emily Hotchkiss: “Thank you, mom.”
Emily kisses her mother on the cheek. Cairo waves goodbye as he and Emily make their way out the door. Cairo escorts Emily to the Eldorado, parked in front of the house. Cairo opens the door for Emily like a true gentleman and then quickly pops over to the driver’s side before pulling away.
Bobby Cairo: “Your mother is a real sweetheart, Emily. She’s such a strong and courageous woman. I was nervous about meeting her, just because you never know what to expect, but she’s a breath of fresh air.”
Emily Hotchkiss: “Thank you, Bobby. I knew that the two of you would hit it off. You’re both warm and caring people.”
Bobby Cairo “Warm and caring? That’s the nicest thing anyone has ever said about me. Most people compare me to serial killers and terrorists.”
Emily Hotchkiss: “Oh you, silly…”
Emily leans over and kisses Cairo, deeply, passionately, and full of fluid. Cairo is careful to keep his good eye on the road as he and Emily kiss.
Bobby Cairo: “I’ve been waiting for this evening for a long time, Emily.”
Emily Hotchkiss: “Me too, Bobby. I’ve been waiting all of my life to meet a man like you. I know that tonight is going to be special.”
Cairo looks at Emily and sees her smiling at him with the face of an angel, an angel on Christmas evening. Emily’s smile fills him with warmth. Emily and Cairo continue chatting for the remainder of their drive, while Cairo thinks to himself about how blessed and thankful he is to have met her.
Soon Emily and Cairo arrive at the restaurant, a family owned establishment with a proud tradition, hospitable staff and fine cuisine. Cairo reserved their table weeks in advance, before he even knew whether Emily would be escorting him to dinner. At the time Cairo figured that it was a calculated risk: if Emily went out with him then it would easily be worth the money, and if she didn’t go with him then at least he wouldn’t have any money to buy a gun and blow his brains out.
Once they’re inside the restaurant, Emily and Cairo take in their surroundings. The restaurant is immaculately decorated with marble pillars and walls, fine hand-woven carpets, fresh plants and a hand-crafted fountain that welcomes all of the patrons to the restaurant. The maître d' courteously greets Cairo and Emily and leads them to their table in the corner of the room, an intimate spot. Cairo tips the maître d' and pulls out Emily’s chair for her. Emily takes off her jacket and sits down. Cairo takes a seat, pulls a gold-plated Zippo from his pocket and lights the candle that sits at the center of the table.
Emily Hotchkiss: “That’s lovely, Bobby, and romantic. Did you know that you’re the first man who ever treated me to a candlelit dinner? Gosh, this entire place is so beautiful.”
Bobby Cairo: “I find that hard to believe, Emily.”
Emily Hotchkiss: “What’s that?”
Bobby Cairo: “A lady as lovely as you should have men throwing themselves at your feet, begging you for the privilege of escorting you to the finest restaurants.”
Emily smiles and takes Cairo’s hands in hers.
Emily Hotchkiss: “To be honest I’ve never had much time for guys. I’ve always been so busy studying and working. The few times that I have been out on dates the guys always acted like jerks. They were only after one thing. You’re the first man who’s truly cared about me… since my father died.”
Cairo gently rubs Emily’s hands.
Bobby Cairo: “It’s the dawn of a new day, my dear. You and I have arrived at a blessed point in time, as we share and enjoy this moment together. We’re here because of faith and perseverance.”
Cairo kisses Emily’s hands. Emily smiles at him with a twinkle in her eyes.
A waiter appears at the table with a plate of fresh breadsticks in hand.
Waiter: “Good evening, sir and madame. I hope that you are enjoying the accommodations this evening.”
The waiter places the breadsticks on the table.
Bobby Cairo: “Thank you, sir.”
Waiter: “Are you ready for your wine, sir?”
Bobby Cairo: “Yes, that sounds wonderful. Thank you.”
The waiter walks away, leaving Emily and Cairo alone again.
Bobby Cairo: “I’m in heaven when I’m with you, Emily.”
Emily Hotchkiss: “Oh, mother’s right. You’re too good to be true, Bobby.”
Bobby Cairo: “Almost.”
Emily and Cairo lovingly gaze into each other’s eyes.
Bobby Cairo: “Emily, I hope you don’t mind but I’ve taken the liberty of ordering ahead. I hope you like steak and lobster.”
Emily Hotchkiss: “I don’t like them, Bobby.”
Cairo’s face turns white as a sheet.
Bobby Cairo: “Oh, well, I’m sure they can fix anything you like, the chef here is world class—”
Emily Hotchkiss: “I don’t like them, I love them!”
Emily laughs and reveals a wicked smile on her face.
Bobby Cairo: “Oh girl, don’t tease me like that. You just about gave me a heart attack.”
Emily Hotchkiss: “I’m sorry, Bobby. I thought you liked to be teased.”
Bobby Cairo: “In the right context, babe. It’s all about the context. I have to tell you, I like a girl with an appetite. Personally I’m all in favor of animal rights, but let’s be honest, salad ain’t a meal.”
Emily Hotchkiss: “I agree with you there, Bobby. Tell me, you’re a rugged guy, have you ever eaten an animal that you killed yourself?”
Bobby Cairo: “Are we counting fish?”
Emily Hotchkiss: “Sure, fish are animals.”
Bobby Cairo: “I’ve caught, gutted, cleaned and eaten many a fish. I’m an avid fisherman. I love to fish for bass at the Flats.”
Emily Hotchkiss: “The Flats?”
Bobby Cairo: “Bass Flats, it’s this great fishing spot outside of Hartford, in the country. My dad started taking me there when I was a kid and we’ve been going ever since. I can take you there if you want, if you’re into fishing?”
Emily Hotchkiss: “I’ve never fished before in my life, but I’m willing to give it a shot. You’d have to teach me, if that’s not a problem?”
Bobby Cairo: “No problem at all. Fishing is easy, it’s all about temperament. You have to be patient. You have to be willing to wait hours and hours for the fish to take the bait… and then BAM!”
Cairo slams his hand on the table.
Bobby Cairo: “Reel that sucker in!”
Emily laughs a beautiful mellifluent laugh that sounds like music to Cairo’s ears.
Emily Hotchkiss: “That sounds exciting! But you’re in charge of the cleaning and gutting, OK? Because that’s just gross.”
Bobby Cairo: “Oh, you’re such a girl.”
Emily Hotchkiss: “I am not! I just… I have my limits.”
Bobby Cairo: “Girl!”
Emily Hotchkiss: “Shut up!”
Emily playfully slaps Cairo’s hand.
Emily Hotchkiss: “OK, tough guy, what about hunting? Have you ever shot a grizzly bear or a moose?”
Bobby Cairo: “I’ve never hunted, unless you count the meat section at the grocery store. That can get pretty hairy, wrestling with old ladies to find the best prices on ground beef and pork chops.”
Emily and Bobby share a laugh as the waiter returns with a bottle of the finest red wine that the restaurant offers and two glasses. The waiter pops the cork and Cairo thanks him for his service. Cairo pours a glass of wine for Emily and then himself. They raise their glasses in a toast.
Bobby Cairo: “A toast to love and following your heart.”
Emily and Cairo clink their glasses together and then drink up. Their smiles grow a bit wider as the wine hits their taste buds and enters their systems.
Emily Hotchkiss: “This wine is exquisite, is this French?”
Bobby Cairo: “Yes, I love the Italian wines but nothing says romance like a fine French wine, am I right, my dear?”
Emily Hotchkiss: “You are correct, sir!”
Emily and Cairo drink more wine and engage in conversation until the waiter arrives a few minutes later with their dinner.
Waiter: “Sir and madame, your entrée. Steak, lobster, steamed vegetables and fettuccini alfredo. Bon appetit!”
Emily Hotchkiss: “It looks delicious. Thank you.”
The waiter bids adieu as Emily and Cairo cut into their steaks.
Bobby Cairo: “This meat is so tender and I love the mushroom sauce they put on here. I didn’t used to like mushrooms, but I’ll eat anything if you put it on steak.”
Emily Hotchkiss: “You’ve really outdone yourself, Bobby. This meal must cost a fortune. You have to let me pay half of the bill.”
Bobby Cairo: “Don’t worry about the cost, sweetheart. I’m not doing this to be lavish. I’m doing this because you deserve it. I’m doing this because I love you and there is nowhere else that I would rather be than here with you.”
Emily Hotchkiss: “Bobby... I love you too.”
Emily sighs contentedly as Cairo melts in his seat.
Emily Hotchkiss: “God, I’m so happy. Where have you been all of my life, Bobby?”
Cairo and Emily lean over the table and kiss. In that moment their souls become intertwined, as do their tongues. The sparks of passion send shivers down their spines and into their fingers and toes. The force sends Emily and Cairo falling back into their seats.
Bobby Cairo: “Wow! That was incredible... I have to compose myself.”
Emily giggles as she breathes heavy.
Emily Hotchkiss: “I’ve been waiting a long time for a man to kiss me like that.”
Bobby Cairo: “I’ve been waiting a long time for a woman to kiss me like that.”
They laugh, sharing a moment of humor in the heat of passion.
Bobby Cairo: “Emily, what do you say we eat these delicious dinners and then get out of here? I have a special place that I want to take you.”
Emily Hotchkiss: “You don’t have to tell me twice, Bobby. I can’t wait to dig into this steak… and I can’t wait to dig into you.”
The happy couple smiles as they enjoy their meal. They don’t want to rush while eating because that can cause indigestion and nothing ruins a romantic occasion like indigestion, but they do cut back on the chit chat and instead exchange lustful glances as they eat.
Emily teases Cairo by seductively licking a carrot before taking it in her mouth. That just makes Cairo even hungrier. If dinner is this good then he’s ready for dessert.
