And if I wanted to move up I could.
[That last sentence causes Price to stop and think for a second.]
Yeah...I could.
[Price grins and then goes back to showering.]
[The scene opens inside of the locker room with Jay Price getting dressed following his shower.]
Price: Those are just mind games. Come on, you know that's how I do things.
Man: Yes I do know that. But mind games aren't going to mean shit when you get in that ring on Sunday. Are you sure you can even beat him?
[The conversation from earlier is still playing in his mind as he tries to get dressed.]
Man: And we both know why they're holding you back. They're afraid of you and what you're capable of. You said it best yourself, you are the future of that company. And all of them, Torture, Seth and the entire ToT, they're all scared of your rise.
[Price looks over at the man with fire in his eyes.]
Price: You don't know what you're talking about. Those guys are my friends.
Man: You keep telling yourself that kid. You just keep on saying that.
Price: What did you mean earlier by all that talk of them holding me back?
Man: Well think about it Jay. What was the purpose of the ToT from the beginning, in Torture's on own words?
Price: It was to keep the World Title on Torture but that doesn't mean that they held me back.
Man: Really? Then let me ask you this, when is the last time you had a match of any real meaning? One that could be considered a step forward in your career.
[Price looks down at the ground and appears to be thinking.]
Man: All the time that you spent trying to help him...and when did he once help you? If you were so important then why did you spend the last three months battling the basement of the roster?
Price: You have no idea what you're talking about.
Man: The hell I don't. You need to get your head out of your ass and see these people for what they are. They think just because you're a rookie that they can manipulate you for their own needs. You need to realize that you can do better for yourself without them.
Price: So what are you suggesting? You want me to cross the World Champion and the owner of the company? That's a great way to get my ass fired and then end up back here.
Man: And what would be so wrong with that? Look at you Jay, you've forgotten all about where you came from. You walk around in thousand dollar suits and drive fancy sports cars. What happened to the Jay Price that debuted in WCF back in September? What happened to the South Street Menace?
Price: Things change. People change.
Man: Yeah but it's not always for the better. You've become so consumed with the greedy ways of Torture that you've forgotten about your own roots.
Price: I know where my roots are.
Man: Then for once why don't you show it. Why don't you show the world the real Jay Price at One? Show them all that you can win without cheating or without interference. Show them that you have some honor and respect...at least for yourself.
[Price is silent as he stands up and picks up his duffel bag from the ground. He throws the strap over his shoulder and pulls the hood of his jacket over his head as he walks towards the door.]
Man: What, you're just going to walk out when I'm talking to you? Jay I'm trying to tell you the truth, something I doubt you've heard a lot of recently.
Price: Look, I'm going to do what it takes to win in this business. And if that means that people are going to hate me for it then so be it.
Man: You don't mean that.
Price: Then you don't know me as well as you think.
[Price pushes open the door and walks out into the cold, wintry Philadelphia night with a look of frustration on his face. He walks over to his car and throws his bag in the back seat before getting into the drivers side door. He turns on the car and turns up the radio before pulling out onto the street and driving off into the night.]
[Price is sitting alone in his living room, in a chair in front of the fireplace with a bottle of Jack Daniels in his hand. His cell phone rings from the other room but he makes no attempts to get up and answer it. He already knows who it might be and he has no desires to talk to them.]
And if that means that people are going to hate me for it then so be it.
You don't mean that.
Price: Why should I care about the people? All they've ever done for me is boo. Even when I debuted, before I sided with Torture, they were booing at me. So why pander to them? Why give a shit what they think.
[From behind Jay emerges Shannan from the darkness of the hallway. She walks up behind the chair and rests her arms around his neck.]
Shannan: If what the crowd thinks doesn't matter, then why do you keep beating yourself up over what he said?
Price: I don't know.
Shannan: You do care what they think.
[Price looks up at her with an angry look on his face.]
Shannan: You can give me that look all you want but it won't do a thing. Come on Jay, you need to stop lying to yourself and admit that the crowd is getting to you.
[She walks around the side of the chair and sits down on his lap with her legs draped over the side.]
Shannan: I see it each and every week from the announcers table babe. As soon as they start booing or chanting I can see the look in your eyes.
Price: Well what the hell am I supposed to do, ignore them. You try ignoring thousands of people chanting Fuck You or You Suck.
Shannan: Well maybe it's time for a change.
Price: Oh god not you too.
Shannan: Calm down, I'm not going to try preaching to you about changing your ways. All I'm saying is, it may not be the end of the world if you listen to him.
Price: You realize that if I listen to him, that I'm going to be crossing your brother.
Shannan: Pssh, I can handle him.
[Price laughs.]
Price: Yeah I don't doubt that one bit. All right well you should get to sleep.
Shannan: Oh don't even try that one boy. You're leaving for the airport tomorrow and this time you're not leaving without your gift.
Price: I'll be up in a little bit. I just have a few things I need to do first.
Shannan: Well hurry up, I'll be waiting.
[Shannan hops off of his lap and Price gives her a playful smack on her ass. She walks out of the room and heads upstairs as Price takes another drink out of the battle.]
Price: Maybe they're both right. Maybe a little change wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.
[Price sets down the bottle and heads over to the closet. He opens the door and turns on the light before rummaging through several boxes. He finally finds the one he's looking for and pulls it off the top shelf. He walks out of the closet and sets it on top of a nearby end table. He opens up the box and rummages through the contents with a grin on his face.]
Price: This should be fun.
[Scene fades to black.]
