The camera focuses on in a plethora of magazine covers and slowly begins to zoom out, revealing a sliver of the cherry wood desk that the periodicals are strewn about. Each glass print is adorned with various pictures of the same individual. Seems that the entire world seems to be business world is buzzing about perhaps the single most important business acquisition in recent history as the final picture is a close up of the ever familiar grin of Allen Guiliano holding a poker chip with the logo of CoolWear Inc. in the center. As the lens moves across the publications, it stops on a white cocktail napkin with a date scripted on it in fine black ink. “December 20, 2009” is now clearly visible and is shown for a few seconds before the hand of Guiliano quickly snatches it from the pile of magazines and slips it into his breast pocket. The camera slowly pans up into the deep glare of the Italian that sits behind the desk and has quickly risen to his feet and pushed open the door to his lavish office high atop the Camille.
Both the WCF superstar and cameraman make their way down a long hallway decorated with plush red carpet and black painted walls, with pictures of the Sicilian landscape placed at perfect intervals. Moments later, another door is opened for the pair as it reveals a large press conference room, where hundreds of reports, with steno notebooks in hand quickly rise to their feet and begin spewing their questions towards the man in the black suit that makes his way to the podium. All the inquiries seem to run together to form an annoying racket in the ears of Guiliano and he quickly raises his hand. With almost an intangible power, the entire room goes silent as he reaches up and adjusts the tie that hangs around his neck and slips down only to disappear into his suit jacket. His lips part and he addresses the room.
Now, I know that each and every one of you has a million questions that you are just dying to ask, but please, let’s do this like civilized people and I guarantee you that I will answer as many questions as I have time for. I believe there is someone in this room that has a list of names of all of the appropriate news organizations that are represented here today and when your firm is called, please rise, state your name, and ask your question. I will answer and if you have a follow up question that pertains to the statement I have given, I will gladly let you ask it, but if it goes off in another direction, I will call for the next entity. So, without further ado, Jessica, who is lucky number one?
All heads in the room follow the gaze of Mr. Guiliano as he glances off to his left and the rest of the reporters, including the cameraman, turn to their left and stare down a young female who simply holds a single piece of white paper. She places her finger near the top, looks up and calls out a name.
Jessica: First on the list is MSNBC. As stated by Mr. Guiliano, one question at a time please.
A gentlemen seated near the middle of the room quickly makes his way to his feet and adjusts his glasses before placing his pen on the yellow notepad in front of him, almost afraid to look up at the man of the honor.
MSNBC: Um, yes, I’m Mark Redding from MSNBC. My question, now that you have acquired a controlling share of CoolWear Inc. do you plan to rebrand it to fit with the marketing of your casino in Vegas or keep it as is?
Great question Mark. I haven’t really thought there was a need to rebrand CoolWear. It is a great company that is flourishing with the current management and current branding tools that have been put in place. However, I think that by using my expertise in the business world, I can bring fresh ideas to an already establish brand name and take it even higher than it has been before. Right now I plan on letting it play out and see what markets we can further venture into. Who knows, by this time next week instead of Armani and Hugo Boss, I may be wearing CoolWear to my press conferences.
There is a chuckle heard throughout the room as Jessica looks down the list and once again gives permission for a new reporter.
Street and Smith’s: John Hetherington from Street and Smith’s Sport Business Journal. With you being in the sport entertainment business, how has this acquisition of your rival’s company affected the behind the scenes workplace at the WCF and do you plan on incorporating CoolWear into the sport industry?
Once again, another great question. Well, John, I think that Torture has made CoolWear a big part of the sport entertainment industry already and I simply plan on profiting even more for the hard work he has poured into his company. As for the behind the scenes environment, the only thing that I will say is that two financially successful men who are successful in the professional wrestling business will be colliding in the near future and there is sure to be quite the fireworks display when that finally happens. I’m sure we will have a few altercations backstage, but we are both professionals and our differences will get worked out. I’m sure he is still seething about the news we are talking about here today and my signing of the contract for our World Title match at One.
Jessica: Next on the list is Forbes magazine.
Forbes: Bonnie Parsons from Forbes. Mr. Guiliano how to you think your purchase of controlling shares will affect the stock of CoolWear Inc. for the previous stockholders and how will they benefit from your acquisition of the company?
I think that one thing is ultimately clear as far as the stockholders are concerned and that is that I am out to make money for CoolWear and put that money back into the company so that it can grow and evolve even more than it already has. I have made my millions and will continue to do so with my business out here in Vegas. I see CoolWear as kind of a project and expect to put the majority of my earnings back into the company itself. Also, I think it is the job of your magazine to predict how the stock market will fluctuate from happenings such as these. First and foremost, I am a businessman and anyone that has invested in any of my entities knows what kind of returns they can expect. CoolWear will be no different. Some people think that I am out to drive CoolWear Inc. into the ground simply because it is run by my biggest rival, but that simply isn’t true. Torture and myself will both greatly profit from the new things that will be in store at CoolWear.
The female at the west end of the room continues to rattle off names and questions continue to be asked of the Sicilian and he continues to answer to the best of his ability without revealing anything to the completion that is surely tuning in. International, national, and local publications are present as pens continue to fly across notepads that are in the laps of the numerous journalists and the conference continues for nearly two hours before the final name is reached on the list.
Jessica: And last but not least, the World Championship Federation.
Eyebrows raise at the announcement of the last and final organization that will be represented as a familiar figure stands up in the back of the room. A warm smile forms over the face of the clearly exhausted Guiliano as he spies Hank Brown standing in the back of the room. Allen extends an arm to him as he welcomes his question.
WCF: Allen, Hank Brown, World Championship Federation. I believe we have spoken before? Just one question to end the interrogation here; will this attention and new found responsibility have any effect on you for this week’s match at XIII?
Ah, finally a question that I can give full answer to without having to worry about who is listening. Hank, the business that I have conducted over the past several days will in no way affect me for my upcoming match this Friday night. Throughout my entire career I have had to separate business and wrestling and that is exactly what I will do this week. What happens outside of the ring with me will stay outside of the ring. When I step between those ropes at XIII, I will be the same Slickie T that the fans of the WCF have seen for the past several months during my run to the #1 Contendership. Sure, there will be a little swagger in my step this week, but I think I deserve that after pulling a quick one on the man that everyone seemed to think was untouchable in the wrestling world. Now, Hank, I’m sure these distinguished journalists don’t want to sit here and listen to me rant about what doesn’t matter to them so I will put an end to this press conference and take your questions off the record. So, ladies and gentlemen, once again, thanks for being in attendance, as always, you were great and adhered to the rules that were set by Jessica and her crew and I invite you inside the casino for some free gaming courtesy of yours truly. As you leave, one of the doormen will be handing out $200 in free chips for all of you here this evening. Enjoy yourselves and once again, have a great evening.
Two large double doors at the back of the room are carefully pulled open by two guards and the throng of journalists and reports begin to file out of the room. Hank stays put in front of his chair and waits for Guiliano to make is way from the stage and down the aisle toward where he is standing. Allen makes sure each and every person has left the room except for employees of The Camille and Hank before gesturing to the doormen to close the doors once again. Guiliano smiles and puts a firm arm around Hank, leading him to the front of the room and out a side access door that takes them into a large dining room where high rollers and other people of wealth come to escape the eye of the general public. The Italian escorts Hank over to a small table that has been set for two and pulls a chair out for himself and the WCF interviewer. Each man sits and pulls his chair underneath as Guiliano picks up a water glass that has just been poured by a young waiter.
Hank, I know that question in there was pure bullshit so why don’t you ask me what you really came here to find out. I’ve got some time to kill and after that marathon of a press conference, I need to sit down and put my feet up for a little bit and I don’t mind spending it answering questions from you.
Allen, I think we all know what questions the people want asked so I will start with a rather simple one. How long have you known about the stipulation in the CoolWear Inc. contract that allowed you to pick the venue for the XIII event?
I have known about the little piece of information for quite awhile, and it was just one of numerous reasons that pushed me to finally purchase an owner’s share in the company. It will be good for the city of Las Vegas to be formally introduced for the WCF and it will be a great event for The Guiliano to host. It is sure to be a sellout and will bring people from outside the city and well as within to see the proprietor of one of the most lavish establishments in Vegas to actually get in the ring and be part of the event. How many casino owners have you seen in the middle of the ring for one of the numerous boxing matches they hold out here every year? Zero. It should also be a good opportunity for me as well to put on a show considering the opponent that Seth has so generously put me up against.
That brings me to my next question. How do you feel about stepping into the ring against the sinister Greenfever. This guy has made a name for himself by not only beating opponents, but literally destroying them inside the ring. How do you plan on preparing for this match and surviving for the ordeal, more less actually coming out of the squared circle with a victory?
I think that he should be the one on the receiving end of that same question. You, along with the rest of the WCF, seem to forget how I made a name for myself in the wrestling world. It wasn’t through singles matches, tag matches, or being part of a famous stable. It was through my numerous Hardcore Titles and my suicidal nature inside the ring. I have held the Hardcore Title in every federation I have been in except for this one and I would be the next WCF Hardcore Champion if not for Seth making the match on Friday night one of a non-title variety. I think I have proven myself to former opponents who have tried to gain an advantage by taking the match outside the ring that it simply doesn’t work against a man who has been dubbed the “Ace of Hardcore.” Their situation only goes from bad to worse when they try to take the match outside the squared circle. It’s not me that has to worry about surviving this match, its Greenfever.
What are your thoughts about Greenfever and the seeming reign of terror that he holds over this organization? Now that his eyes are set on you, how do you plan on bringing the big man down?
Hank, like any good competitor, I’m not going to reveal any tactics, but I will tell you this. I think Greenfever is going to find himself in a situation that he has not seen before when he steps into the ring at XIII. This time he is facing an opponent that has accomplished something as a professional wrestler and an opponent that is on the rise to the top in the WCF. This will be the first time that Greenfever has faced a top tier competitor, more less the #1 Contender to the World Championship. Sure, I know the reason that this match was booked and I’m sure that Greenfever does as well, but it only adds more fuel to the fire that burns inside me to come away victories in XIII’s main event.
Seth, you can try to wear me down all you want, but you are only delaying the inevitable. It will be my home fans behind me on Friday night and I will not disappoint them. I will take down the “hit man” that you have sent to not only injure me for One, but to end my career. The bigger they are, the harder they fall, and Las Vegas should be prepared for quite an impact when Greenfever does go down. Mr. Lerch, you are simply helping me prepare for my match with Torture, because let’s face it, if I survive the match you are putting me in on Friday night, what makes you think that Torture an dish out any more punishment or has any more of an advantage than Greenfever? I have proven myself over and over and over again and this week will be no different. I am undefeated in pay per view matches, this week will be no different, and the streak will continue through One. You have been doing everything in your power to keep that belt around Torture’s waist, but it seems that I am now the one that has the upper hand. I am the one that is in control and each and every week I pull the rug out from under you a little more and by the time that December 20 comes around, there will be nothing left for you to stand on.
Any words for your opponent Greenfever this week? I know you have stated your piece about him before, but anything you want to directly say to the monster?
Greenfever, as with opponents I have faced before, you seem to be somewhat distracted. However, your distraction is a little more severe and arrogant that I have witnessed in the past. You aren’t distracted by a past event or by other person; you are simply distracted by yourself and your own morbid mind. Walk about all you want and claim to be God, but you are nothing more than man with a sick mind. You should be lucky that Seth didn’t put your title on the line this week or you would have to witness it being taken away from you in front of thousands of screaming fans that praising your defeat and your downfall. However, I will just have to accept victory over you as the ultimate prize instead of the gold that you carry over your shoulder. Your title is not the one that I am after, but if Seth would have given me the opportunity, I would gladly take it away from you.
You are not God, you are not a monster, and you are not a threat. You are simply another opponent that stands between me and my match at One with Torture. At XIII, you will be yet another person that finds out how I got my nickname and you will be in for the fight of your life. Your power and strength will be no match for my speed and experience. I will run circles around you and you will suffer the same fate as 13 others have here in the WCF. How ironic that I will take 13 victories into an event that is named for the same number. The Team of Torture may be presenting the event, but it is Slickie T that will steal the show.
The screen fades to black as Guiliano quickly pushes his chair back from the table and gives Hank Brown a quick pat on the shoulder, staring deeply into the lens before excusing himself from the interview.
Both the WCF superstar and cameraman make their way down a long hallway decorated with plush red carpet and black painted walls, with pictures of the Sicilian landscape placed at perfect intervals.
