Out into the pouring, drenching rain they go, where Hayley sees him on his knees, face down on the concrete, either letting the water pound on his head like a thumping headache or maybe just not moving at all. Hayley sees this and rushes over to Kevin, worried and freaking out right about now as she trips over to him and shakes him again. He doesn't move.
“Kevin? Kevin? Kevin? Wake up.”
No movement.
“Oh my god. Kevin? Are you ok? Speak to me?!”
Once again, no movement or no words coming out of his mouth.
“Dammit...SOMEBODY HELP!”
“I'm alive, dammit. Can't you see I don't want to be bothered with?”
False alarm. Kevin puts his head back up, still on his knees though as he sees Hayley sitting next to him in the front of the hospital. A nurse comes outside after hearing Hayley scream from the top of her lungs but she lets the nurse know about the false alarm.
“What the hell are you doing? You're freaking everybody out here!”
“Sorry...I was praying actually. Praying that Angie was going to be alright. And then you had to come out here and ruin everything. I'm trying to do what I can right now with the situations I have before me and people have to ruin my style. Is 5 minutes alone all I ask of?”
A little forceful coming out of Kevin, not so much like him at all actually. Even though Hayley has no idea whatsoever at what's going on, not even with what Kevin is doing.
“You know I have no idea what's going on either. I rushed out here to see if you were ok. I care for Angie as well, but I understand how much you love her. And I know the feeling about losing a close friend, hell...a family member of yours. Because that's what Angie is for you, right?”
“You know the answer to that question, so why are you asking me?”
“Trying to help out perhaps. Somehow we're in this together because of who is inside there, and if you don't want to help me out, then fine. So be it. Go home and take your ball and chain with you.”
Kevin finally gets up and looks straight into the eyes of Hayley, his eyes now as red as the blood that he was covered in during her car accident. Obviously, he's not too happy about what she just said.
“Don't you ever say that again. What do you have with her that I don't have? Huh?”
Hayley gasps in shock over the thing that Kevin just said. Complete, utter shock.
“Excuse me? I have a 15 year friendship with her. I've known her since we were in the 5th grade. We've been through more things than you can handle in your relationship with her. Hell, she's about ready to die and all you do is run out here. What? Are you too pussy to see your wife die in there? Well, fucking take it.”
Kevin starts motioning for a front hand right across her face, a slap. Hayley though blocks the slap and nails Kevin on the cheek with a right hook that sends him scattering a little bit. The girl has strength to her, she can tell you that. Kevin gets up though and looks at her, staring, like he's going to throw her down to the ground and kick her square in the head. He turns though and pulls out the keys to his car as he rushes towards there and gets in. Immediately, he skids his tires and gets the hell out of there in the maddest rush anybody's ever seen. So bad that a couple cars stop and pile up, as they honk their horns in a regular driver's road rage.
But Hayley sees him drive off and wipes something from her eyes. A couple tears down her face. She sniffs up and heads back inside the hospital.
He gets back into his car and doesn't start it up. He just sits there, listening to the words the doctor said, listening to the words that Hayley said to him before he stormed off, listening to every single thing that has happened within the past couple days inside his head, until we hear Angie's monitor going nuts as the doctor yells out for the adrenaline shot to the heart. All of it is heard in a single, insane blur. Kevin opens up his eyes to see himself still in the parking lot. He puts the car in drive and gets back on the road.
He starts thinking again. Ever since Angie crashed, he hasn't heard a word yet about her condition and whether or not she's going to make it through. That paranoid feeling starts to get under his skin again. You know that feeling. Where when you hear the slightest pin drop, you expect the worst. Kevin heard it and now he's freaking out himself. He can't keep his eyes out on the road, he keeps looking around. Like something is bound to happen. Well it does.
RINGGGGGGGGGG! RINGGGGGGGGGGG! RINGGGGGGGGGGG!
It's Hayley. Oh no. It can't be. Angie can't die. Not today. Not ever. Not on his watch.
Kevin, in a paranoid state of mind still, all of a sudden gets calm. Eerily calm in fact. He looks at the phone one more time and sees the front of the hospital nearby. But he doesn't put on his turn signal. He just offers up a smile and closes his eyes.
“Here I come, Angie my love.”
He turns hard left to the middle of the road. CRASH!!! His car immediately crashes into a nearby SUV and goes flying into the air, turning around on it's side, going at least fifty to sixty feet in distance alone. It finally heads back down to earth and skids along it's side as glass and pieces of the car go flying near. The car then ends up flipping a couple times before finally coming to a complete stop, upside down.
Kevin opens his eyes slowly now, barely able to at all as he's hanging upside down, bloody and battered. Just like Angie was that fateful night. Faintly he can hear the ambulance and sounds of the EMT's running nearby the wreck as he unballs his bloody fist to reveal his cell. Still working somehow. He then sees a figure, upside down, next to him. An angel perhaps? Kevin tries to regain his focus to try and see who's sitting next to him but his consciousness is fading fast. The figure reaches out a hand to him, and up close, Kevin can see that the figure is a female, and has a ring on her finger.
He faintly calls out to her.
“Angie? Is that you, sweetheart?"
The figure keeps reaching out to him, and once again, barely, he can hear the figure speaking to him. In who appears to be Angie's voice.
“It....me. It's.....time.”
It sounded like she said something in between, but Kevin's eyes slowly close. He did hear the words that he thought he would've loved to hear. “It's time!” It's time for them to meet and love once again. Kevin smiles as his eyes finally close, seeing his final image in life. Just as the fire department use the Jaws of Life to get him out. The EMT's rush over immediately and try to revive Kevin, as one of them puts his fingers on his neck.
“He has a pulse. Alright, very carefully, get him over to the emergency room. Looks like a severe concussion.”
===================================================================================
On the other end...
Beep....beep....beep.
“Phew. Heart rate stabilizing. She's going to be okay. Let Mr. Hardaway and his friend know about Mrs. Hardaway condition, will you, sir?”
The nurse nods and opens the door to see Hayley, walking back and forth. She hears the door open and rushes over to the nurse immediately.
“Is she....?"
“She'll be fine. Her heart rate is going back to normal. She just had a small problem with the medication we were giving her. Apparently it was running right into her immune system, but don't worry. Everything has been squared away. Where's Mr. Hardaway?”
“He went out to get some fresh air. I'll call him and let him know.”
The nurse nods to Hayley as she steps away and goes to the restroom area to clean up. Meanwhile, Hayley grabs her cell and calls Kevin's number.
No answer.
“Shit, not this again.”
It keeps ringing until, finally, his answering machine comes up.
“Hey, it's Kevin. Obviously, I’m not here, so if you need to, leave a message after all of that “Wait for the beep” shit. Thanks.”
And just like he said, she gets the “After the tone...” message heard on every answering machine. BEEP!
“Hey, it's Hayley. The nurse just told me that Angie is going to be fine. Apparently something happened with her immune system, it wasn't feeding the drugs that the doctors gave her. Bullshit if you ask me, but, if she's going to be ok, then I’m all for it. I hope you get this ASAP and I hope we can put the past between us with what just happened. I'm really sorry that I said those things, believe me. I was afraid for Angie's death as well, believe me. I went haywire and I shouldn't of slapped you. Well, hope you return soon. Bye.”
She closes up her cell phone, just as she sees a rush of doctors and EMT's run by her at full speed. Nothing like she's ever seen before. But something suddenly catches her ear by a couple of the doctors.
“Car wreck out there. Dude just freakin’ totaled it.”
She just had a gut instinct. She had to know, so she yelled out loud.
“Did you say “car wreck”?
“Yes we did. I mean, it's done for. Real nice car too from what we heard. '67 Mustang. What a beaut, huh?”
She drops her jaw to the floor and rushed immediately to follow the doctors.
===================================================================================
The message she left could be clearly heard on the cell, as doctors were prepping him on a stretcher. Suddenly, Kevin opens his eyes again and sees Angie, walking near him. Walking with him as he was being rolled back into the emergency room. Angie looks up as she sees Hayley running over to the stretcher and with Kevin's eyes fading away again, she tells him as clear as crystal.
“It's not our time. I'm going to be fine and so are you. I'll see you soon. I love you.”
===================================================================================
He snaps awake, looking around his environment. Its his bedroom now, Angie sleeping peacefully next to him. That brings a smile to his face, although when he lies back down, he starts breathing heavily, a cold sweat coming down his face as he wipes it away and closes his eyes again. But he can see an orange ring around his blank dark stare, as he opens his eyes and sees that Angie is now awake, the light turned on beside their bed, as she looks over at him, a concerned look upon her face.
“What’s wrong, sweetie?”
“Bad dream, nothing else.”
“Aww, what happened.”
“It was when you were in the hospital, and I had that heart attack. Although I didn’t have it, instead I got up, argued with Hayley, she slapped me, and then I took my car and just drove off. Then...I...I purposely crashed it, just because I thought you were dead and wanted to be with you...up there. But you came to me as I guess I was being prepped up on drugs and told me that it wasn’t my time.”
“Oh my goodness.”
“Then I woke up.”
Angie moves over and hugs her husband tight, as he places his head on her chest, his eyes closed. He liked when she comforted him, it just put a good smile upon his face, that’s all.
“I’m so sorry, I really am.”
“For what? It wasn’t your fault.”
“No, I should apologize. Everything that has happened, with the car wreck, and the near-death experience. You shouldn’t be subjected to any of that.”
Angie is now gently running her fingers through Kevin’s hair, his eyes closed as he just rests with his loving wife.
“I know, but now I have to...after all of this has happened, after who hit you, after all of the details coming out. I know that’s eating you up inside.”
“It is eating me up inside, but things will happen sooner or later, trust me. He’ll pay...he’ll pay.”
“Ok, love. Can we go back to sleep?”
“Sure.”
They both share a quick smile at one another, as Angie goes over to turn off the lamp on her night stand, Kevin still resting on her as she holds him close. Kevin reaches an arm around her and holds her just as close as she does, falling back asleep fast, just like that. Still the loving couple.
===================================================================================
A few hours later...
It’s morning now. 8:15 AM to be exact as Kevin slowly rises from under the covers of his bed as he opens up his eyes and looks at the clock on his night stand. Yep, same time as we just mentioned. He looks over and sees one of his favorite things in the morning. Angie, sleeping peacefully, like an angel as the sun barely shines over her, leaving a beautiful glow to her. He goes over to her and hugs her from behind, her eyes opening as well as she turns around to face her husband.
“Good morning.”
“Morning.”
“How did you sleep the rest of the night?”
“Ok. Nothing happened.”
“I’m glad to hear that, love.”
The two end up sharing a kiss...a long, sweet, passionate kiss. But then...the mood killer arises. Crying can be heard from the other room, as they break off the kiss, a sigh upon both of their faces.
“D’oh...Kimmy’s up.”
“I’ll go get her, love. Don’t worry. I was going to make breakfast anyways. Figured you could use it.”
“That’s so nice of you.”
“Don’t hold your breath.”
The two end up sharing a laugh in the process.
“Seriously...”
“Psh. Fine.”
As Angie gets up and puts on a t-shirt (you’re not seeing anything, so don’t hold your breath either...perverts) to cover herself, Kevin gets up as well.
“What are you doing?”
“As my dad says to me...shit, shower, and shave. Or in my case, promo, shower, shave.”
“Your dad said that?”
“I know...weird, huh?"
Angie chuckles to him as she opens the door. Kimmy’s still crying, but not loud enough so the couple has to yell.
“Well, you go do that. I have to deal with our alarm clock.”
The two share one last kiss for now as Angie leaves the room. Kevin closes the door back up again, possibly so that during his talk, the baby doesn’t yell so loud that you can’t hear a word he’s saying. The camera is on now, as Kevin sits on the edge of the bed, trying to wake himself up, scratching the minor beard he has growing. He hangs his head down and sighs out loud.
(That’s right, the hospital stuff was a dream...well, kind of. He keeps having nightmares about it, yadda yadda. What a twist, huh?)
“Kevin? Kevin? Kevin? Wake up.”
No movement.
“Oh my god. Kevin? Are you ok? Speak to me?!”
Once again, no movement or no words coming out of his mouth.
“Dammit...SOMEBODY HELP!”
“I'm alive, dammit. Can't you see I don't want to be bothered with?”
