We open up in a conference room. Hector is seated by himself in a chair. His arms are in front of his face, clasped over the back of his head. His left leg is nervously bouncing up and down underneath the table in anticipation of War. Somehow...even though it doesn't make sense...we can hear his thoughts as he waits for War to begin.
Hola, my name es Hector Rodriguez. This has been one of the most gruelling weeks of my life. I have never trained harder for anything in my life. The years I spent in Mexico, we never had to train like this. Not even for the Mexican version of the world title, not even for those matches. It es not a bad reflection upon the Mexican wrestling, no. It is merely to show how important this match is. It is not a simple singles match. It's not even a tag team match. Every wrestler on the payroll here in WCF with the exception of the two in the world title match are going to be in the same match together.
This has been explained a million times this week by not only myself but other people, but I don't think it truly sinks in how big this match is until you see it live. For us wrestlers, it doesn't get 'real' until our music hits and we're sent out to the ring to the unknown. We know who is out there already in the ring. We know who has already been out there and eliminated. We also know who is left, but we do not know when they will get out there.
Right now, it's going through all our heads as we prepare later tonight for our chance at winning the War match. Every single one of us has thought about every other person in the match and whether or not they will help us. Whether or not they will target us right away. We don't know if they will try to avoid us. They might try to form a temporary alliance with us long enough to get an adversary or two out. They could look at us during the match and want to use us to help them get a little further before trying to eliminate us, too. Yes, these strategies we have right now before the match can change on the spot during the War match. You never know while you're out there when you eliminate someone if the other people in the back waiting to come out will change their mind about you.
The people in the ring will be the same. You could be across the ring and eliminate a friend and suddenly have another enemy with you in the ring or one who hasn't come out yet. In most cases, when the men in the ring hear the music of another individual coming down, they won't always know if another friend or another enemy is entering the ring. Except in some cases, nearly every person who climbs into the ring could potentially walk up to you, blindside you and eliminate you in a second.
Just like in the world, War brings about the beginning and the end. For WCF, War brings about the end of alliances that were forged beforehand. It also causes new enemies to be made. Knowing that this match is every man for himself does nothing to the ones who are bitter after being eliminated. On the other hand, War can also cause new alliances to be forged. Men who were once enemies could end up bonding over the hell that is War. They could become allies and go on to bigger and better things.
Winning War is an honor above all, but it is also a curse. The winner of War becomes comparable to the world champion, some even overshadow the champion. Almost everyone who wins War has gone on to win the world title. For the world champion, it means the eventual end of their reign. For the winner of War, a target is painted upon their back. They become the man or woman to beat here in WCF. They steal the spotlight from the world champion. The world champion spends the War pay-per-view in a singles match or a triple threat match typically, while the War winner had to go through hell and back to win it. They had to take on, win and survive against nearly the entire WCF roster to get a shot at the world champion. Compared to the match the War winner was in, the world champion has a cakewalk at War.
Everyone is going on and on about how they will be the one to win War. They forget that I'm in it. The Mexican Machine. The Pride of Mexico. I'm not just winning it for myself. I'm winning it for the people. The people of Mexico. The people of my home of Toluca. I win it for the people of America. I win it for all the people who have been disrespected. My path to the top of WCF starts here at War. I will win. I will go on down my path to whoever wins the world title. If Creeping Death does what not many people expect him to do and he wins, I will still come for him and his world title. I will still put this Team of Torture in their place. I will still help Logan regain the respect he deserves. Together, we will dominate WCF.
Nothing will stop that. When I'm in that ring tonight and I go to eliminate someone, I will not consider the consequences for that action. I will eliminate them and immediately rise up to whatever challenge is put forth before me next. Mr. Seth Lerch could add in 10 more spots with mystery men in them all and it wouldn't matter. The mystery man will get eliminated just like anyone else who gets in my way. I said earlier that people's strategies change within the match as certain people get eliminated, that doesn't matter to me. It won't matter who gets eliminated, who teams up, my strategy stays the same. I will dominate...I will survive....I will win.
