Hola, my name es Hector Rodriguez. Nearly the entire lockerroom will be in the same ring tonight at War. We will all be fighting it out against each other for the right to face off against the winner of Torture and Creeping Death's match. The one who will be the champion of the world. All the discussion on the discussion boards online, in the magazines, in the newspapers, on the newscasts, is that this can be the defining moment for a superstar in the Wrestling Championship Federation. Nearly all of the wrestlers who won War will have a place in the halls of fame of the WCF. They will be remembered forever. When they won it, they went on to fame and fortune. They were forever known worldwide as a true superstar in the WCF.
Out of all the other newcomers here in the WCF, the only person other than myself who is being talked about more as a potential to win War is the champion of the televisions, Jay Price. Aside from him, wary glances are being cast upon myself. When my music starts playing during War, people won't simply shrug and worry about who is in the ring. The fans won't simply sigh and turn back to the action in the ring. No, all eyes will be on me. They will watch me come out from the back, walk to the ring and climb in. They will watch to see what I do in the ring. The people at home will be glued to their televisions. The wrestlers in the back who have either already been eliminated, aren't in the match, or just haven't come out yet will also be glued to their screens to see how I fare against the best the WCF has to offer.
This opportunity I have tonight isn't just about winning and being the number one contender. It's not just about having the chance to become the champion of the world. It's not just about bringing back respect to WCF. It's about representing my country, my people. They will be watching, they will be cheering me on. Their hopes and dreams ride upon my success in this match. I will not fail. I cannot fail...
Grunts and loud thudding sounds can be heard as the camera turns on. The camera man adjusts the lens and wipes it off to ensure a clear picture to the viewers. Hank Brown stands off to the side talking to someone in an ear piece. Standing off to the side is Hector's manager Carlos Estrada and his talent agent, Don Bradley.
The scene where this takes place is inside a boxing gym of all places. Standing off to the side in front of a large punching bag is Hector Rodriguez. He has on a pair of blue boxing gloves and his slamming into the bag with all his might with lefts and rights. He is wearing a pair of black trunks and his trademark mask is on his head. Sweat is pouring down his chest and arms. A pair of iPod earbud cords hang from his ear to a strap on his arm that keeps it snug.
The cameraman finally gives Hank the go-ahead signal and Hank Brown turns to the camera.
Hank Brown
As you have guessed, it's Hank Brown here for WCF. The fans have been filling up our inboxes, discussion forums, and voice mails so much asking for a last minute interview with War entrant Hector Rodriguez on the night of War. Being the fan-friendly organization that we are, we gladly obliged, as did Mr. Rodriguez, Mr. Estrada, and Mr. Bradley. Thank you gentlemen for your time and this chance to speak to you on what will undoubtedly be one of the biggest matches of Hector's short career thus far here in WCF.
Carlos and Don Bradley both nod and say thanks to Hank. Hector, of course, pays no attention as he can't even hear over the music coming from the iPod.
Hank Brown
So, I see that Hector is still undergoing some intense training. He seems to be drenched in sweat over there.
Carlos glances over at Hector and nods before turning back to Hank.
Carlos Estrada
Si. He has been training a really big amount. Like you said, this es one of Hector's biggest matches here in WCF. He's been here for a month and he's stepping into the War match, not just some newcomer that the higher-ups think will last a few minutes. He's not someone that just might eliminate one or two fellow newcomers. No, it could be no surprise if he ends up pinning someone like Johnny Reb, Mikami or even Slickie T. There's even a likely chance that when the bell rings signaling the end of the match that Hector Rodriguez es the one with his arm raised.
Don Bradley points to Hector Rodriguez.
Don Bradley
Hector isn't back there just training for the hell of it. He's not back there training to do a good job or a great job at War. He's being trained to survive. He's being trained to win. He's not just being trained to survive War. He's not just being trained to win the War match, no. He's being trained for more than that. No matter how good or how bad he does at War, he has a target painted on him. He's aligned himself with Logan. He's incurred the wrath of WCF owner Seth Lerch. One of Hector's biggest missions here in WCF is to rid the federation of disrespect, to return respect to WCF like the days of old. When the ones who reigned on top of the federation were the ones that the fans cheered. Not these smug, arrogant men who run around with an entire posse instead of taking care of their own dirty work. Knowing that Hector is out to complete this mission paints a huge target on his back.
Hank Brown
Yes, I think it would.
Hank looks over at Hector and gives a curious look to Carlos.
Hank Brown
What exactly is Hector listening to on the iPod? I'm pretty sure that the fans would love to know what kind of music the wrestlers listen to that they watch on television every week.
Carlos Estrada
Es not exactly music. It's actually a sound clip that was constructed from several others.
Hank Brown
What sound clips?
Don Bradley
They are sound clips from some of his recent matches, the ones where he's lost. They're the commentators' final comments on it. It's also sound clips from people talking trash about him. The clips are made to make him angry, then as you see he's taking his anger out on the punching bag. He's being trained to withstand mind games people might play. He's becoming physically sound. Mentally sound and also psychologically sound. Hector Rodriguez will be a near perfect specimen. In two weeks he's lost weight and gained muscle. His chances at War now are increased from where they were two or three weeks ago. Like we've been saying all along, he really will be a machine tonight.
Hank Brown
So who do you think will be your biggest threats in this match? Who do you believe are the most likely to win the match aside from Hector?
Carlos Estrada
They would have to be Mikami, a fellow foreign superstar like Hector. Former champion of the world Johnny Reb. Former champion of the country of the United States, Slickie T. Also, Hector's new friend Logan.
Hank Brown
Yes, let's speak on Logan here for a couple of minutes before we return to the other wrestlers you just mentioned. So you guys have been saying all along that you teamed with Logan both because he's also going after the Team of Torture and because he's the most disrespected wrestler in the federation. Is that the only reasons?
Carlos Estrada
No, it es not.
Hank Brown
What other reason is there?
Carlos Estrada
Because of his experience. He's been here forever, he's been in American wrestling longer than Hector has been wrestling period. Hector, he has wrestled for years in Mexico, but he doesn't have the experience here in America. We knew that to accomplish his goal, Hector would have to find someone great within the federation to team up with. We have seen him struggle for many months but right before Hector came to the WCF, Logan started to improve. We believe with someone watching his back, we can help him, just as he can do the same in return.
Hank Brown
Well, what about the warnings people have given you about Logan? That he could turn on you at anytime because that's supposedly 'what he does'?
Carlos Estrada
This es American wrestling. It is commonplace that if you're aligned with someone else, odds are they will split ways or someone will attack the other. That is how the people here operate. The same could happen with almost any other wrestler Hector could have picked as his friend. If it happens, it happens, and we'll deal with it then. We, however, don't worry about that or think about that. We trust Logan just like we hope he trusts Hector. Hector doesn't betray his friends.
Hank Brown
So how do you think Hector will fare against the likes of Mikami, Johnny Reb, and Slickie T?
Don Bradley
He will win. The three men you mention are former US and World champions here in WCF. The thing is, this isn't an ordinary match. This is the War match. Title histories don't mean a damn. The only thing that makes a difference is experience in War. Have any of those three men you mentioned ever stepped into a War match? No, they haven't. Everyone here in WCF runs their mouth about how they have such a great chance at winning because they've won all these matches. They've won all these pay-per-view bouts. They've won all these title belts. I will say this again, those do not mean a damn thing in War.
If you take the top 5 superstars most likely to win War, the thing is...Logan is the only one in the group with ANY experience at all in the War match. Everyone looks at him as the underdog, but he's actually the one with the advantage. The only other person in the match who could possibly do well that might have experience is this mystery man of Mr. Lerch's.
Hank Brown
Do you guys have any idea on who it might be?
Don Bradley
No, we don't. We haven't even worried about it. We've just made sure that Hector is training as hard as possible. He's been watching tapes of the old War matches like crazy, too.
Hank Brown
Are you worried he might be a threat to Hector's chances of winning War?
Don Bradley
Yes, but the thing is, everyone in the match is a threat to Hector's chances of winning War. We're not actually, really worried because Logan will be in there, someone to watch Hector's back. But the thing is, this mystery man is as likely to eliminate Hector as is someone like one of the newcomers or even someone like Slickie T.
Hank Brown
Good point. Any last words before I leave you guys to finish training?
Don Bradley
Just that the lockerroom, Seth Lerch, the fans in the stands and the ones at home better be prepared for War. Hector is prepared like it's the last thing he'll ever do. He has never trained for anything harder in his life. He will dominate anyone that steps into the ring after him. Anyone already in the ring will get dominated then. Hector will survive...
Don Bradley lets this sentence trail off and steps away to Hector. Hector starts to walk away from the punching bag, but turns around and hits it from an angle, causing it to spin. As it spins, a picture is taped up on the side where Hector was hitting it. It's a picture of WCF owner Seth Lerch.
