*My word.. what is this? Could it be the rarest of things? A second promo in a week from Dave Holland?! Shocking stuff. So where is he? What's he doing? And how come no one's telling us?
Oh right that's my job. Sorry.
The setting is a large gothic one, namely a chrch or cathedral.. to be honest I don't really know the difference except in size. Nevertheless it's one or the other. A choir is singing, filling the whole place with uplifting tones of time's long gone and a yearning to be nearer my god to thee. The words? Your guess is as good as mine but at least it's ambience, something often missed from today's settings don't you think?
Dave Holland enters from the back of the church. He dips his finger in the small bowl of holy water and crosses himself. He takes a seat and listens patiently to the choir as they sing. The camera takes it's place in front of him and he speaks very quietly so as not to disturb the choir.*
Dave: A beautiful setting is it not? I know there are probably many out there who don't appreciate the place or the religious connotations but hey.. I have many atheistic friends who just like to listen to the hymns and the music. I must admit that of the various religions of the world the music of christianity strikes me as the more melodious. Maybe that's narrow minded or maybe... just maybe.. that's what we call an opinion. Now as to the nature of this setting. I figured it would do me good to look into this world champion I'm to face tomorrow night. This, Skyler Striker. I caught your promo recently. Compelling stuff.. but is it wise to ignore an opponent purely on the basis that he did not speak to you directly? For shame. You should know better than that. But hey.. here I am, Skyler.. talking directly to you. So what do you want me to say? That I hate you? That you're just another stepping stone to the pinnacle of my thusfar short career in the WCF? Well I'm sorry but I can't do that.
*Dave leans forward on the pew in front of him, pressing the urgency of why he can't bring himself to hate his opponent.*
Dave: Because I respect you as a wrestler... and I also respect you as a person. Caring father, devout christian and very proud of it. Also a very talented wrestler. I'd be a fool to underestimate you. However I can't help but notice you're struggling against your inner faith. Whatever that apparition was that appeared to you you should listen to it. It merely preaches the tenets of your very own faith. 'Love thy neighbour as thou lovest thyself'. Maybe not those exact words.. I always like to add a touch of ye olde speech to biblical text but the premise is the same. Why did you at first not even seek such a path? Not all competition requires hatred. The greatest of battles in this sport of ours will come from two individuals with naught but a healthy respect for one another. I understand that I may not understand the full details of recent happenings but still... maybe I don't need to. I understand enough to understand that it's nothing to do with me, and that's fair enough for me.
*Dave now stands and walks along the side of the church. The windows depict the visages of fallen saints and ancient apostles. Dave looks at each of them as he walks past and continues to speak as the choir continue doing their thing*
Dave: But I also understand that you have a lot to offer to everyone who crosses your path. Friend or foe. You said yourself you have to give them a piece of what you have. What that is I couldn't start to guess but I know from looking at you that it must be a truly blessed thing indeed. So, why would I come to a church to discuss you Skyler? Why would I? Would I disrespect your religion and even go so far as to call it a hindrance thus furthering my own objectives in spreading seeds of doubt in those who don't or needn't doubt their abilities? No. Because simply put I too hold a believe in our lord God and his son Jesus Christ. Protestant rather than Catholic....
*The choir suddenly stops*
Dave: But a child of God nonetheless!
*The choirmaster tuts as he ushers the choir to the back rooms, presumably ending the rehearsal early*
Dave: ... Maybe that's just it. Mankind no longer has the tolerance or even the ability to love as unconditionally as was once written. If you're not one of us, you're one of them. I don't believe that. I believe that every man has his own personal religion. He believes what he believes and from time to time maybe that belief becomes re-aligned. Every man.. every woman and indeed every child, I believe is also a power unto themselves. With belief, with prayer, with determination and with desire every and any person can achieve every and any act. I understand, Skyler, your desire to win.. but unfortunately here we've been thrown at odds to each other. Maybe I can win... maybe you'll stop me. But the same can be said in reverse. Anything could happen this sunday, such is the calibre of all six entrants. This could very well come down to you versus me. Ragnal's got other concerns right now... as does Creeping Death with the upcoming XIII. I don't know where Epic or Vice are but they obviously don't want us to know either. That leaves you and I. World Champion or no world champion, my resolve is no less against you. I may be a rookie here in these people's eyes in WCF.. but mistake me not..
*Dave looks to the window to his side now. It portrays the figure of the Apostle Thomas, famously known as The Doubter*
Dave: I can and will end those who doubt me. I will offer my palm that they might place their fingers in the holes. Offer my side that they may place their hand within the wound there.
*Dave nods to the altar at the head of the church, a mark of respect for his God, even if the denomination is not his own*
Dave: Or maybe I'll be less metaphorical and stick my foot in their face claiming the 1,2,3. I've not yet decided. Though this new option does sound far more inviting.
*Dave walks along the centre aisle as he leaves the church, the doors wide open cause a large amount of glare on the camera and the figure of Dave and his flaring coat is absorbed by the light. The organist has taken this moment to start performing a particularly epic sounding piece of msuic.. which I don't know.. I'm no expert.. but the whole scenario is most impressive. The scene ends unusually with a whiteout rather than a blackout.*
