Chris Avery: No mom, I know exactly what's going to happen. He'll come to the ring, ask me to just be his friend and lay down and then he'll go right back to ignoring me and just using me whenever he needs assistance in the ring. I'm tired of it!
- Avery is on the phone in a Starbucks Cafe around 10pm in Chicago on a late Monday night. Avery listens to his mom on the other side of his phone call, and then speaks right back in to it.
Chris Avery: You and destiny, ma, that is all you ever talk about. Well, I'm going to finish my coffee and then go find the reason why I'm here as you'd say. Love you too.
- Avery closes his phone and slides it in to his pants pocket. He stands up in his black polo shirt with thick bold yellow stripes matching his black slacks with his work boots on. Avery grabs his coffee, takes the last sip, and tosses it in to the trash bin before stepping outside the store. Avery begins to walk down towards his make-shift apartment he owns down the street. He gets to the corner of Christian St. and Bravery Rd. and waits for the light.
- Still waiting to cross with hardly any traffic around Avery notices a woman screaming up the street. He looks to the left quickly and notices a baby stroller rolling down the street with no one controlling it. The woman is crying and screaming for her baby to stop somehow about half a block behind it. Avery looks to the other street and notices a SUV speeding right towards it from the side. Avery runs into the intersection, grabs the stroller just as it hits the middle just as the SUV wails on the horn and spins out to avoid Avery and the baby stroller.
- The woman comes running up to Avery and gives a hug to Avery and grabs the baby. Avery is shocked and looks towards the SUV. The driver puts a finger out the window and speeds off. The woman grabs the stroller and cries while walking away. Avery gets to the sidewalk and is still trying to register everything that's going on. He looks up at the street signs. His eyes open wide. The pedestrian light is blocking most of the sign so the only words that are visible on the street sign are Christian and Bravery.
Chris Avery: What the hell?
