The scene fades in as we Jayson Price making his way through Philadelphia International Airport, a pair of earbuds in to block out the noise of everyone around him. As he pushes through the crowd, keeping his mind focused only on his thoughts as the world goes on around him, the loss last week is weighing heavily on him and it shows. Him and Augustine were supposed to beat Speede and Rabid, despite what people may have thought. It was all but won, Price had Speede on his knees, struggling to get up and it would have taken but one Explosia to end it. But Augustine, trying to show that he wasn't the weak link, tagged himself in and immediately got rolled up. And just like, there went Price's chance to get back into the World Title scene, resetting his momentum once again and this time he had no control in it. But now isn't the time to make excuses, one door may have shut but another one has opened as, by some happenstance, he finds himself facing Teo Blaze for the Television Title. It's not a chance to challenge for the World Title at Kingdom Come, but it is an opportunity to begin anew. As Price walks past a newsstand he pauses as he spots something out of the corner of his eye. A wrestling magazine, apparently still a thing even in this digital age, bearing the image of Teo Blaze, the Television Title slung over one shoulder, the Infinity Title over the other shoulder and a smirk plastered on his face. And above all that, the cheesiest and laziest title one could come up with, 'What's Next For Wrestling's Hottest Star?'. Checking his watch and seeing that he still has plenty of time before departure, Price picks up the magazine, hands the cashier the money and walks off, leafing through as he heads toward his gate.
Jayson Price: "As Teo Blaze is in the midst of a meteoric rise, complete with a career defining moment as he became the inaugural Infinity Champion and dominance over the WCF's Television Title division, many wonder just how long this young star's career will continue to shine." Jesus fuck, how much do you have to pay to get this kind of ass kissing?
Price rolls up the magazine and stuffs it into a trash can as he approaches his gate. A young wrestling fan that's been following Price and saw him throw it out, sneaks up behind him and pulls it out. Price, sensing his presence, turns and pulls out one of his earbuds.
Jayson Price: I'd leave it where it belongs kid, that shit will just rot your mind.
Fan: But it's got Teo Blaze on the cover! He's my favorite!
Jayson Price: Is he now? And why is that?
Fan: Because he's the good guy! And he flies all over the ring like a superhero!
The young fan begins to mimic a superhero, arms out in front of him as he runs in a circle. Price lets a small smile come across his face as he lets the kid do his thing for a moment before holding up a hand to stop him.
Jayson Price: You want to grow up to be just like Teo, don't you kid?
Fan: OH MY GOD YES! I WANT TO JUMP OFF THE TOP ROPE AND DO BIG FLIPS AND I WANT TO BEAT UP ALL THE BAD GUYS!
Super excited now, the kid begins throwing kicks and punches at the air, even letting out a few karate "HI-YAHS", as he fights some imaginary bad guys.
Jayson Price: Whoa, careful now slugger, you don't want to hurt somebody. Now let me ask you this question, why is it that you want to grow up to be like Teo and not like, oh I don't know, maybe me?
Fan: Because you're old! And Teo is super cool and nice!
Jayson Price: Yeah, but let me let you in on a secret kid, 'super cool and nice' won't get you anywhere in life. And if you don't believe me, why don't you ask yourself how many World Titles Teo Blaze has held. He's never learned the simple lesson that in the wrestling business, if you want to truly be successful, sometimes you have to be a fucking asshole. And Teo? He doesn't have it in him to disappoint the kiddies like you by being a 'bad guy' and that means he's always going to be exactly what he is now. And the sooner you realize that, the sooner you'll realize you're worshiping a loser.
Fan: YOU'RE A LOSER!
The fan delivers a quick kick to Price's shin and then runs off. Price considers chasing the kid down and stuffing him into a trashcan, but the threat of yet another lawsuit dipping into his already gutted paychecks keeps him where he is. Instead he picks up the magazine and again flips it to the story written about Blaze as he takes a seat on one of the plastic chairs near the gate.
Jayson Price: I just don't understand why people are so insistent on sucking this guy's dick right now. I'll give him the fact that holding that Infinity Title is impressive, gathering up all of those stones wasn't exactly a cake walk. But that's where the kudos ends because now the question is how long until he blows his chance? People forget that we already know how far this guy's ceiling is because his head's been brushing it for years. Where he is right now, the Television Champion that's been padding his reign with victories over the likes of FarCry and Robert Simmons, is where he's always been, a guy more well known for being a spot monkey than being a winner. Like I said, gathering the stones to get the Infinity Title was a legitimate accomplishment, but it's going to ultimately be the top one on his resume because there isn't a ladder tall enough to help him get to where he's dreaming of being.
Price flips the page to find a full page photo spread of Teo, this one focusing solely on the Television Title that he cherishes, holding the gold up and staring at his reflection in the gold.
Jayson Price: That look, I know that look very well. I had that very look the first time that I saw my own reflection in that very title nearly ten years ago. Winning the Television Title in 2009 as someone just coming into WCF was what kick started my career. I was a no name at that point, I'd only had one match in the company up to that point, and I walked out of Slam holding the gold. The Television Title has a very special place in my heart as the very first of the nine different titles that I've won, so I get the attachment that Teo has to it. But where he's based his entire career around trying to make the title more important than it is, I used it as a springboard to bigger and better things. Matches against Hall Of Famers. Main eventing Pay Per Views, including One. And, of course, winning the World Title. And that's what I fully intend to do once again.
Price taps his finger on the picture of the Television Title in front of him.
Jayson Price: Since the start of the Tag League I've been talking about how I'm in the middle of a mission to reestablish myself as the best in WCF. People have forgotten about me and have turned to idolizing people like Teo Blaze, choosing to write off someone that's just entering his prime years yet has already built a resume that most can only dream of, simply because of a bad year. And last week, watching my path to redemption get derailed because of an overzealous partner that wanted to finish the job that I started, even I thought that the Universe was against me. But here I am, being gifted a shot at the Television Title unexpectedly just like I was in 2009. Ten years ago it was Anastasia Petrova in my way. Don't remember the name? I don't blame you. Teo Blaze surely won't go the way of Petrova, but he will suffer the same ending as she did come Slam. This match, that Television Title, they are going to springboard me forward just like they did the first time.
Price rolls up the magazine and stuffs it back into the trash.
Jayson Price: Teo, to be honest, you're one of the few people in this company that I don't have a problem with. I don't care for your ideas about playing it up for the crowd and being a good guy in front of the kids so that they have someone to look up to, but you yourself have never rubbed me the wrong way. And the reason for that is because you and I have never truly been at the same place during our careers. Sure, we've met up at WAR and the occasional random bout on Slam that's come about because of questionable booking, but this is the first time we've ever come up against each other with something on the line. Something that we both want and are willing to fight for. Why? Because while you were always so set on wanting to languish at the bottom, fighting to keep a lower tier belt as relevant as possible while damaging your own relevancy, I was always going bigger picture. Yeah, I spent my share of time holding various mid-card belts and doing my thing, but I was always trying to move up to the World Title. And I did it! But you, outside of your sudden interest in gathering up the Infinity Stones to eventually get the Infinity Title, you were content being an afterthought that was only remembered for your flips. Now that you've got the Infinity Title you have people talking about you, wondering when you're going to cash it in for your shot at the World Title, but I honestly question whether you'll ever do it.
Price puts his hands up and mimes his head exploding.
Jayson Price: I know, I know, sounds insane. Why would someone go through all that fighting to gather the stones and keep them out of the hands of everyone else, only to sit on the Infinity Title with no real intention of cashing it in? Because you know you can't beat the World Champion, Teo, no matter who it is. Noble's out of your league. Shit, Bonnie's a scrub, but even she's managed to step her game up enough to be where you could never get. Odin, Richards, X...the list of people ahead of you just goes on and on, any of them could be World Champion during this year and you're sitting there with that Infinity Title, looking at them knowing that you can't beat any of them. So you went through all of that struggle to get it for what? For the relevancy. Look at you Teo, have you ever been as talked about as you are now? Have you ever been featured in magazines or on radio shows or all the other shit you've been doing lately? Of course you weren't. For years you were just that guy in the mask that flipped around the ring for the kinds. Now you're Teo Blaze, the 'Hottest Name In WCF', if you choose to believe the hype. But I don't buy it for a fucking second. I know you Blaze, I know you way too well. You're a hell of a Television Champion, you've been running the division for what seems like forever now. But it's really easy to stay on top of a division when you're facing the guys you have been recently. Who was it last week? Robert Simmons? And the week before that was FarCry? And then Leon Hayze before that? I can keep going back and back looking for the last guy you faced that was worth a fuck, but who knows how long that will take. And even if I did finally find one, it wouldn't change the fact that the only people who are impressed with what you're doing for the Television Title are the morons that once upon a time were the brainwashed kids cheering for Teo Del Sol.
Price pauses as he pulls out his earbuds and pulls down his hood, readying himself to get on the plane to head to Virginia.
Jayson Price: Listen, when I said that you were one of the few guys I don't have an issue with, I meant it. But the simple fact is that right now you are the one standing in front of me, trying to stop my momentum. And I can't have that, Teo, I really can't. I know how much the Television Title means to you, I know how attatched you are and how you think you're doing things for it that nobody else ever has, but right now I need it. It's my ticket to getting back to the top and I whole heartedly intend doing everything in my power to get that, even if it means making it so that you can never do one of your fancy flips for the kids ever again. I implore you to be smart and just go down after the first knee strike, don't be a hero and kick out, forcing me to take your head off. Don't make the kids cry Teo, think about them in the audience, watching you. You don't want to teach them that it's okay to risk concussions or worse, instead teach them to know their limits.
Price is interrupted by the announcement that his flight is about to begin boarding. He stands up from his seat and adjusts his hoodie before continuing.
Jayson Price: And don't worry about what I'm going to do with the Television Title after I've won it, Teo. I know it's your prized possession and that you're going to be lost without it. That's why I want you to survive our match. I want you to still be able to walk and talk and be the hero to the kids. Because when I'm done using that belt to get back to the top, I want you to be the one to get it after me so that you can continue what you're doing with it. Keep on being the hero to the new guys and the others that can't break through the glass ceiling. You're the greatest Television Champion of all time, the epitome of what the belt stands for, and I can guarantee you're going to be that for the rest of your career. Just as long as you don't try to be a hero.
The scene fades out to black as Price turns and walks toward the plane.
