Hank Brown: Room 333, this is the place.
WCF's one and only interviewer is just outside said hotel room, standing on the fancy-looking carpet. He looks around and admires the posh surroundings while knocking on the door.
: Come in.
The door is already cracked open. Hank pushes it and walks inside, seeing only two beds, one made and one rumpled.
Hank Brown: Hello?
: Good afternoon.
Hank is startled by the voice behind him. He spins around to see Mikami wearing a maroon T-shirt and jeans, as well as his usual expressionless look.
Hank Brown: How did you...never mind. You know, most people do their interviews backstage. Why the special request?
Mikami: Yes, that would be the obvious place, which is why it cannot be the one that I use. I cannot let my enemies know where I will be at any time.
Hank Brown: Your enemies?
Mikami: My enemies, your enemies. The enemies of society. I am sorry that I surprised you before, but I had to make sure that it was just you and the cameraman here today.
Hank Brown: Well, who else would it be?
Mikami: Someone could have been hiding behind you.
Hank Brown: That seems pretty far-fetched.
Mikami: It is unlikely, but I cannot afford to make assumptions.
Hank Brown: What if someone recognises this hotel? The camera recorded the room number. Did you think about that? Everyone will know where you are after this interview airs.
Mikami: No, they will know where I was. I will have been gone quite a while before anyone sees this.
Hank Brown: Oh. Well, are you satisfied enough that we can start the interview now?
Mikami: Go ahead.
He sits on the unmade bed as Brown gives a signal to the cameraman.
Hank Brown: I'm here with “Messiah” Mikami...
Mikami: It is pronounced “Mah-sah-yah”.
Hank Brown: I'm sorry, I just thought...I'm here with new WCF wrestler Mikami, who this week has already been booked in a match to determine the number one contender to the United States title. Can we get your thoughts on this match?
Mikami: You can, since I am contractually obligated to give them to you. There are very few stipulations in my contract, and that is one of them. I agreed to it because one of my tasks here will be to tell the people of my quest to rid the WCF of evil. The point I am making in telling you about my contract is that I am different than everyone else here, and so I have a different type of contract. I am different in that I do not care about titles, belts, or glory of any kind. The glory is not mine to have.
Hank Brown: Well, whether you want it or not, you're in this match. Like you said, you have a contract.
Mikami: You are incorrect, but it does not matter. I accept this match.
He stands up and begins to pace between the nightstand and the television.
Mikami: The process of leaving Japan and coming to the WCF was very time-consuming, and I have not wrestled in a proper match in quite a while. I may be here as an instrument of justice, but I am still a wrestler. Through my victories, I hope to inspire others to seek victory over evil. To do that, I will need to be my best. This match will be a warm-up for me.
He stops pacing and looks up at the ceiling, with his hands clasped behind his back.
Mikami: My second reason is, while I do not need to be in the same wrestling ring as the wicked in order to punish them, it does make things quite a bit easier. Winning this match will bring me face-to-face with Logan, and that will be one more punishment I will force him to endure. He will lose his precious title.
Hank Brown: You still have to go through two opponents before then. What do you think of the competition?
Mikami: Everything.
He cracks a small smile. Brown seems unnerved by this, as the gesture is both rare and seemingly out of context.
Mikami: What I mean is, I am always thinking. I am familiar with Johnny Reb. Like all of my opponents, he has been scouted. Thoroughly. For every possible manoeuvre, I have a counter. You will never find anyone as prepared as I. That is why I was chosen for my task.
Hank Brown: What about Ace Gideon? There's no tape on him.
Mikami: No, there is not. In other circumstances, that would be...worrisome. But, of course, the reason there is nothing to look at is because...there is nothing to look at. He has never wrestled professionally, at least not at a level that we would consider professional. His background reveals a lack of training and technique. As far as we know...
He sits back down on the bed.
Mikami: ...he was never even on a high school team. I would think it would not be hard to find a high school wrestling team to join in the heartland of America, and yet his records show zero involvement in organised wrestling. If he were any good, someone would have signed him a long time ago. I can only assume that his presence here is part of Gravedigger's plan to slowly bankrupt the company.
Hank Brown: It's funny that you mention all that, because I did some research. The same is true of you as well. Your records only show one recent month in a Japanese federation.
Mikami: That is by choice. You only wanted that information for your interview, but imagine what my enemies...our enemies...could do with it.
Hank Brown: But how were you able to do something like that?
Mikami: I have given you my thoughts on the match. I said that I would gladly do interviews, but I cannot just give you my secrets.
Hank Brown: Not even a hint?
Mikami: I will tell you, in order to keep myself humble, that it was no effort at all. Anyone could...
He trails off.
Hank Brown: Could what?
Mikami: You have to leave now. I need to think.
Brown turns to the camera.
Hank Brown: That was Mikami, brand new WCF...
Mikami: Now.
Brown and the cameraman walk away, leaving Mikami to mumble to himself.
Mikami: Anyone at all. Even a boy from Indiana...
