:::Fade in to Hank Brown and Steve Carr in the same room and sitting in the same chairs as last time.:::
Hank Brown: Welcome, WCF fans, to part two of my three part interview series with Steve Carr. Last time we talked about Mr. Carr’s reasons for joining up with and then abandoning Team NCW. Today we’re going to talk go back a little further into the past and focus on his brief tenure as WCF owner and operator. First, some background from the archives.
:::Fade out to a series of clips from a long, long, time ago, all the way back in the year 2006. We see Logan’s interview with Steve Carr, his introduction as the owner, parts of his speech regarding the state of WCF and Creeping Death, his interference in a match which resulted in Jack of Blades winning the Hardcore Title, and finally his loss to Creeping Death which resulted in his ouster and the establishment of XIII.:::
Hank: You had a very bitter feud with Creeping Death, but I have to assume, based on your change in attitude and what you said to me last time, that you don’t feel quite the same way anymore.
:::Steve takes a deep breath and puts his right hand on his face, index finger on his cheek and the rest of them on his chin, thinking of the best way to put thoughts into words.:::
Steve Carr: As you can tell, I am very protective of this sport. This sport. What we do is thousands of years old. I felt at the time that people like Creeping Death, the “hardcore” wrestlers, do not belong here. I felt that what they do - and what he does, especially, because to me he is the most violent and therefore the best representation of hardcore – what they do is a direct assault on this sport. I looked at barbed wire and fluorescent light tubes and…goddamn weed whackers and I saw someone who cannot wrestle, but wants the same attention that we get. So that’s the compensation for not having any wrestling skill.
Hank: How do you feel now?
:::Another deep breath.:::
Steve: You take away all the chair shots and run-ins, you take away the business end of it, you take away the politics and all the other crap we have to deal with nowadays, you take all that away and what you still have is not Greco-Roman Olympic wrestling. Really, I don’t know if you can call any of us wrestlers. We’re fighters. I was thinking that Creeping Death is not able to do the things I do, and that’s true, but the thing is, I can’t do the things he does either. We have different skill sets. We have different abilities. But we want the same thing. We want to win. We want to take a guy, and we want to beat him down until he cannot get up in less than three seconds. That’s all it comes down to. Everything else is just details.
Hank: What was it that caused this change in philosophy?
Steve: I don’t think I can say that it was any one specific thing. It was just everything that happened with Team NCW made me realize that I needed to take a step back and completely reevaluate everything. Not just what I do in the ring or how I conduct myself backstage, but everything. My entire life. I would have to say that what Merc did as far as how much something can change your life would be up there at the top of the list right under religious experience and death of someone close. It was that drastic.
Hank: Is there anything that you want to say to Creeping Death?
Steve: Yes. I was wrong. I was wrong, and I’m sorry.
:::A pause while Hank shuffles around some note cards.:::
Hank: I realize that this was not originally supposed to be a part of this interview, but I have to ask if you have any comments regarding what Outcast said.
Steve: I don’t really see the point in saying anything about it, or even thinking anything. I said what I needed to say and he said what he needed to say. I’ve made my decisions and he’s made his. That’s all there is to it. I am glad that he has decided, as I did, that he doesn’t want this to turn into some stupid feud. We’re just going to fight and then leave our differences in the ring. One fight and then we leave each other alone. He wants to try to turn WCF into NCW, well, good luck with that. It’s not going to happen. Not with just him and Ortega. I mean, Rick Mad…
:::Steve clears his throat.:::
Steve: Rick Mad, let’s face it. As far as wrestling skill, on his best days, he is World Championship material. But as a teammate, as someone you can count on, as someone who you can get to help out with a project like this? He has to be one of the most inept people on the face of the planet. So let Outcast pine for a future that will never come. I’m going to work on solving the problems on my doorstep with the tools I have in hand. And as for his promise that Team NCW isn’t going to interfere in his match, I’d like to believe him. Like I said I think he’s sincere about this being an honorable fight and then that’s that, but he knows I’m a threat to him. I think depending on how serious he is about this NCW thing, he has a chance to take me out, he’s going to take it. At least he’s going to try. So to sum up, I’ll believe it when I see it.
Hank: Well, I think that will about do it for today. Care to tell us about tomorrow’s topic?
Steve: Tomorrow is all about Merc, and it’s going to be a bombshell. What I’m going to tell you, they’re probably going to replay a thousand times during Explosion.
Hank: Wow, I can’t wait for that and I’m sure the fans can’t either. It was nice talking with you again.
Steve: My pleasure.
:::They shake hands as the scene fades out.:::
