The scene opens up to a blurry shot of Ace sparring with a punching bag. The light pitter-patter of rain can be heard hitting against the windows of the gym. The camera racks focus onto Ace as his younger brother Jude walks up to him.
Jude: So you think this is it, Ace? You think you’re finally gonna make it in the big leagues, huh? It feels like just yesterday we were building a damn ring out of scraps in our backyard. I thought that’d never get finished.
Jude chuckles as the feeling of nostalgia overwhelms him. Ace stops punching the lifeless bag and catches his breath.
Ace: Jude… do you believe in fate? Do you ever think that… I don’t know, maybe there’s something else out there? Something far more powerful than us that has set our lives in motion on a set path.
Ace continues to spar with the bag while the confused look on Jude’s face becomes apparent as he responds.
Jude: Enough with the crazy talk, brother. You and I both know we had to work to get here. This wasn’t just handed to us. We worked our asses off day in and day out to get to where we are now, and haven’t even arrived to our destination yet! We still have our work cut out for us.
Ace stops hitting the bag and looks down in silence for a moment.
Ace: It’s just that… I can’t believe we even made it this far.
Jude: We? This is all you, brother! I’m just tagging along for the ride. Okay, I help a little bit, but you’re the star of the show!
Ace walks over to a vacant stool and takes a seat. Jude follows his lead and sits on the stool next to Ace.
Ace: What if this is as far as we get? What if I don’t get picked up by WCF? I’ve been trying to get noticed for four years now.
Jude: Dude, you can not be so hard on yourself. You know we’ve been through all sorts of trials and tribulations just to get this far. All that hard work is bound to pay off, and very soon, brother! Have a little confidence for christ’s sake!
Jude reaches into his pocket and pulls out a clenched fist.
Jude: Here! Have some!
Ace looks up at Jude dumbfounded.
Ace: Have some what?
Jude: Some… some confidence? Get it? It was a joke.
Ace: Oh. Very funny.
Ace fakes a laugh to appease his brother. Jude looks down in disappointment.
Ace: I’m sorry, Jude. I just don’t find much of anything very funny right now. I’ve got a lot of weight on my shoulders at the moment, and joking around isn’t making it any lighter.
Jude: Brother, lighten up! I know you’ve got what it takes. You’ve practically already won a professional championship—shit, in my eyes you’ve been a champion since we built that ring.
Ace tries to hold back a smile, but fails. The brothers hug it out.
Ace: Thanks, bro. You know you always seem—
Ace’s cell phone interrupts the spiel that was about to happen.
Ace: Hello? That’s… That’s great news! Thank you! Thank you so much!
Ace hangs up the phone. His gleeful demeanor is very apparent as he sits in silence for a few moments.
Jude: Who was that? Was it dad? What the hell did he want this time?
Ace: No. It wasn’t dad. Would I be this happy if dad called?
Jude: Well spit it out! Who was it?!
Ace: It was someone with a proposition; someone that’s going to turn our lives around.
Jude: Have you gone completely insane?
The room goes silent while Jude waits for a response.
Jude: Hello?! Anybody home? Dude?
Ace smiles.
Ace: I’m in the WCF.
