Your name: Matt
Wrestler's name: Leon “Purple” Hayze
Real Name: Leon Hayes
Gimmick: Pot-head wrestler, plays up some of the stereotypes in promos, but serious in the ring.
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 256 lbs
Gender: Male
Age: 40
Hometown: Albany, Oregon
Now Residing: Portland, Oregon
Nationality: American
Alignment: Face
Style: Roughly 60 percent high flying / 40 percent mat based, technical
Favorite moves: Dragon leg screw, hurricanrana(spelling?), octopus stretch, second rope moonsault, single leg Boston crab
Trademark move: “Shatter O.G.” Tree of Woe dropkick to the face
Finisher: Hayzed and Confused (Shooting Star Press) or Stone Free (STF; if he’s looking for a submission)
Appearance: As far as just ‘build’, Leon would look a bit like Edge. His hair is a dark chestnut color that is quite long, going down to about the middle of his back. He’s got an angular face with green eyes. Leon has two tattoos: the first being a tribal lion that dominates nearly the whole of his right bicep, in the colors of the Jah flag ( Red on top, yellow in the middle, green on bottom) on his right bicep and a tribal pot leaf in just green on his left that takes up roughly half of the bicep. His hair is often down if appearing in an informal, non-wrestling appearance.
Wrestling attire: Leon doesn’t wear a shirt to the ring, or if he does wear one of his shirts, it’s often flung off at the top of the ramp. He has neon green tights, with purple lettering on the outside of the legs with Leon on the right side and Hayze on the left. His boots are a deep purple with dark green laces.
Entrance music: “Purple Haze” by Jimmi Hendrix
Entrance sequence: When Purple Haze starts playing over the PA, the lights dim dramatically low—nearly to total darkness—as smoke slowly starts building up on the stage and near ringside, and the ‘tron comes to life with Leon’s video package. At 34 seconds, when Jimmi starts in with his lyrics, an explosion happens at the pyro and as soon as Leon “Purple” Hayze first is revealed from the smoke, two single pillars of purple fire shoot to either side of him as he spins around twice with his arms outstretched. He lurches back and forth from side to side, as if stoned, slapping hands with the fans down the aisle. When he hits the ring, he hops up onto the apron in a smooth motion, springs up to the top rope, and jumps into the ring. As he lands to his feet, he runs over and hits the second rope on a turnbuckle that faces the ramp, waiting for his opponent with a big grin on his face, randomly pointing to different fans until the match starts, whether he is out first or last.
Background: Leon is back to wrestling after a semi-retirement of nearly eight years, for one last run. He wants to taste championship gold again, and dearly misses the life he had nearly a decade ago. A knee injury had taken him from the top, where he had been a World champion, and suddenly thrust to the shelf. A series of unforeseen events made Leon bitter to the business for a long time, until the beginning of 2015. The company he’d been with, just as he was two months away from making his comeback, told him he wasn’t right for their image anymore, and told him they wouldn’t renew his contract, which was less than a month after what would have been his first appearance back from injury. Angry about their decision, Leon breached his contract when asked to make a few appearances before his contract officially expired. Though he is a stoner in real life, he had a good amount of money saved up, and had other pursuits in life—he knew wrestling wasn’t an option for the entirety of his working life. 2015 brought him back to the business, though not really as he would have liked, whether he knew it at the time or not. An indie company in Portland brought him in to be the head booker and one of the three top writers. It was fun, and Leon had great writing talent, so it was easy to fill these roles. He knew the business, and helped bring the companies revenues up a bit. Yet, it wasn’t long—going to the shows and seeing the talent do their thing in the ring—before the yearning to be a competitor started creeping back in. He started hitting the gym with the boys, and while many teased him he was too old to come back, they respected Leon’s work ethic when he started his rigorous work-out regime. Leon hadn’t watched wrestling on t.v., besides the company he was working for, but earlier this year he started catching WCF and really liking what he saw. Leon’s time to return to the ring is now, and he’s hoping his more than 18 months in the gym have prepared him to make a strong comeback to the squared circle.
