Damian Simmons finally regains consciousness. Looking around, he realizes he's on the side of the road. Miles into the distance, smoke billows from a pile of rubble that was once a sporting arena
Standing up, Simmons slowly limps into the night. As he made his way into town, he noticed passersby gasping in horror as they saw him walk under the street lights. It wasn't until he walked into his home.
The house was completely dark apart from the living room, illuminated by only the tv light. Looking intently at the television was Simmons' girlfriend, Natalie. That is, until she saw him stumble into the room.
Natalie: Damian!
She gets up, runs over to him, and hugs him, ignoring the blood and grime covering his body.
Natalie: Thank god you're okay...
Simmons: What.. what even happened? I remember tying up with Crow and then... nothing.
Natalie: Oh my god it was horrible. You both were savages. You just about caved that guy's skull in. He was literally tearing skin out of you and those refs. Y-you weren't human...
Simmons knew something was really wrong when he saw his girlfriend's face and expression. Natalie is typically laid back and calm about Simmons' matches. This must have been serious.
Natalie. H-have you even seen yourself? You're a mess..
Simmons walks to the bathroom, Natalie following. Once he got a good look at himself, he was more focused on Natalie's worried expression than his own injuries. Looking down at his hands, he realized that some of it probably wasn't his. He just simply washed his hands and grabs a washcloth to clean his face.
Natalie was bewildered at this.
Natalie: Okay, how are you not freaking out? There's a piece missing from your forehead!
Damian just sighs.
Simmons: Look, I knew what I was signing up for when I entered this tournament. I wasn't going to come out the same. I didn't realize I'd be turned into a zombie, but still. I was going to get damaged.
Natalie: Yeah... but that was terrifying. I-I didn't even know you were alive until you walked in. I saw them give you the antidote but that's it. The last I saw was them handcuffing you and dragging you out. I've been watching the tv for hours just hoping I'd see you on there alive. A-and I guess the building you were in blew up or something a-and I was freaking out.
Damian sighs and hugs Natalie, holding her.
Simmons: I'm sorry I put you in so much distress. I guess I didn't realize you would be just as affected by this thing as I was... well, not quite as affected.
This brought a slight giggle from Natalie.
The two walked out and sat on the couch.
Simmons: So... did I win, at least?
Natalie frowns, shaking her head.
Natalie: You almost did. He was passed out, the refs were about to end it, but he got back up...
Damian sighs and hangs his head.
Simmons: I guess I should have expected that. The dude's already a zombie or something anyway.
Natalie nod.
Natalie: ...Did you at least get that autograph of Lerch from him?
Surprised by the joke, Damian lets out a sudden laugh.
Damian: No. I never had the chance to ask him. I'll get it next time.
Natalie sighs in mock disappointment.
Natalie: This night just keeps getting worse.
The two chuckled and kissed.
Natalie: So you're not worried about losing?
Simmons: Of course I am. But I'm more worried about how you're feeling. I'd hate to have you worry about me so much.
Natalie: How are you so nice to me and a total asshole to everyone else?
Simmons: You're the only person I don't want to bury six feet underground. Simple.
The two then went onto patching up Damian's wounds then went to bed, preparing for the next night's match, unknown to Them, would be an inferno match.
