5 years..
5 months..
5 days since Jonathan Leveques life changed forever.
It was a calm morning at the home of Jonathan Leveque. When looking for homes several years ago, Jonathan at first took a practical approach to the process. He wanted a home that was far enough away from the city lights that drained his enthusiasm, yet close enough to where he could commute to the concrete jungle for his necessary work as well as picking up a few speaking engagements on the side. His partner, on the other hand, was slightly more into aesthetics and grandeur. They settled on this craftsman, with plenty of room to build, decent distance from Manhattan, as well as a charm that was undeniable.
In the spacious kitchen Jonathan, still as handsome as the first we saw him, though greying slightly at the temples, appears to be concentrating on some sort of concoction in a glass. He holds up the brown, milky substance and with the speed of a waiter drops it in front of a young boy the the table.
“Here you go Jonas! Lait au Chocolat de Leveque!”
“Merci!”
The young boy, dressed in parochial garb for his first day of school, had his nose deep into a book but that did not stop him from using his free hand to take a long drink of the chocolate milk. A smile crossed his face.
“Wonderful as always Dad! “
“Well thank you..Its taken me a long time to perfect that recipie!”
Small Jonas suddenly shows the makings of a pouting face, which catches Jonathans attention.
“What is it son?”
“Where did I come from?”
Jonathan hesitated before answering..He had to be careful not to spill too much about a situation that was hard to even explain to adults. Jonas continued..
“I mean..Kids have a mommy and daddy, don’t they?
“Well, yes son, life is not possible without a mother..”
“Then how come I’m alive? Wheres my mommy?”
Jonathan knew this day would come but he never thought it would come so quickly. Jonas was smart, but beyond that he was intuitive. He sensed things, things that could not be detected by even the most sensitive empath. Jonas could figure out word and number puzzles of great difficuly since he was 3. Jonathan was hoping his young son would be too involved in his studies and other things to ask this question so soon, yet here it was. Jonathan looked into his sons eyes and tried to piece together something that would not seem like complete rubbish to the logical little man.
“Jonas..sometimes a mommy and daddy...need to part ways. And its not your fault son..Hopefully you will understand when you are older, another time when I can explain the diverse complications of the situation..”
Young Jonas sipped his milk...A television was on in the background, unnoticed before as simply background noise from another room, but suddenly, Jonathan turned his head when he heard a name he had not heard in a long time..A female reporters voice is heard..
“....we have Nora Townsend with us, author of Life with Leveque, an unauthorized and shocking depiction of life with one of the foremost and most famous psychologists in the world..”
Jonathan hurries to the adjacent living room, grabs the remote resting on the arm of his exquisite brown easy chair, turning up the volume and leaning in, listening intently. On the screen, Jonathans now ex-wife of 2 years Nora Townsend appears more beautiful than ever. Her surgically enhanced features give her a vivacious quality that she had lacked before, and her green eyes sparkled with faux gratitude and happiness, the undercurrent reflecting a woman scorned and her shot at revenge..Jonas walks up to his father..
“Dad..I’m going to be late…”
Jonathan, snapped out of his shock by his son, smiles a false smile..
“Oh,..okay kiddo..Go get your backpack from your room and we’ll go..”
Jonas rushes up the stairs just as a handsome blond man appears from the hallway. He is dressed similar to Jonathan, striking a professional look. He notices what is on the television and walks up behind the shaken Jonathan, wrapping an arm around his shoulders from behind, leaning on his shoulders..Jonathan takes his hand into his..
“Timothy…”
“Jon...we knew this would happen sooner or later..”
Jonathan sighs..
“I gave her everything..money, rights to my distribution..This...is not the Nora I knew…”
“Maybe you never knew her at all...You know, Jonas is going to get curious one day..”
“He already has gotten curious..”
“We must tell him...Tell him before he finds out from the bigots in the schoolyard..”
“I know...I know….”
Jonas appeared from downstairs just as a telephone began to ring. Jonathan picked up the wireless phone off its cradle and answered..
“You’d better have a good explanation for this…”
Jonathans voice quivered with anger and fright.Tim took this cue..
“C’mon Jonas, I’ll take you to school.”
“But I..”
“No buts mister..”
Jonas and Tim leave..Nora Townsend is on the other end of the line..She speaks to Jonathan, her once warm voice cold and direct.
“Oh I do Jonathan..You see, after our divorce, I realized that my income should not depend on your generosity..After all, you didn’t seem to think of my feelings through all this..So I decided to share my WONDERFUL experiences being married to you..A man who espouses healthy psychology, and yet is too chicken shit to admit he loves men..”
“Nora..The very reason I did not involve lawyers or any of that is that you gave me your word that as long as you were taken care of..You gave me..your WORD NORA..”
“And I got tired of the paltry sum and half assed connections you gave me. I wanted to be the one on TV..The one with all the adoring fans..And now..I will be. I already have a radio show in the works, and tons of interviews lined up! Apparently..Everyone wants to know about the Mysterious Jonathan Leveque..And now they will..”
“Nora..you’ve made a big mistake..”
“Wouldn’t be the first time...But I beg to differ..I am merely shining a light on the messy darkness that is your life...The WONDERFUL JONATHAN LEVEQUE..SO HANDSOME..SO DEBONAIR..IS NOTHING BUT A FRAUD AND A HYPOCRITE!”
“I’m sorry Nora..But You leave me no choice..”
With that, Jonathan hung up the phone..His next call was to his powerful attornies..
October, 2004..
Since the release of Nora Townsends damning account of her ex husband, the lives of Jonathan as well as Jonas Leveque would drastically change..
Court battles would rage on in the Slander case of Leveque vs. Townsend. Reputations were destroyed, nasty allegations were levied. However, when the smoke cleared, after 5 long years of court battles and damaging media coverage, it was over.
Jonathan Leveque was victorious..
In the end, it was resources that won the battle. Without Jonathan Leveques monthly stipend, Nora Townsends book revenue just could not keep the legal battle funded. And with the judgement, a whopping 50 million dollars, Nora Townsend found herself destitute and broken.
As for young Jonas, well…
With his father embroiled in a fierce legal battle involving his name and his homosexual partner, it was only a matter of time before Jonas became incessantly bullied. His grades faltered, his attention wavered. To try and stem the tide of misfortune, Jonathan and Tim put Jonathan in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes and though Jonas shined, receiving high marks and belts for his ascendence through the ranks, it could not stop the onslaught of media coverage as well as the constant painful reminders of who he was. At age 9, Jonas was sent to spend a summer with his Great Uncle, Raymond Leveque..
Raymond lived in Newfoundland, far away from pretty much all manner of civilization. It was the perfect place for Jonas to leave the troubles of his family behind..
Raymond was a simple man..He lived in a 2 story cabin that he had built himself. Bare of the opulence he was used to with his father and his lover, Jonas was certainly taken aback by the threadbare accommodations at first. After a while, Raymond taught him the finer points of living somewhat off the grid such as tracking, hunting, and fishing. After a while, the usually cerebral and introverted Jonas found himself loving this adventure.
One night, Raymond invited Jonas to his basement. Raymond had never been to the basement before, and his trepidation was palpable. When Raymond turned on a light, a world opened up to young Jonas..In the center of the basement was a wrestling ring, old, dusty, worn, but impressive nonetheless. Above was a television hanging from the ceiling. Raymond turned on the Television..
“My boy, have you ever watched professional wrestling?”
“No….”
“Prepare yourself for the best athletic entertainment you’ve ever seen. Pretty soon, I’ll start training again..And I want you to be my first new trainee..”
“Really? Awesome!”
“But first my boy, to some action in the ring on the screen..”
“Woah..whos that?”
“That my boy is the Cerebral Assassin..5 time Northeaster Canadian Champion..Notice his way..The way he utilizes his mind in the ring..He toys with his opponents..the physical strength..The quickness...It is important..but the ultimate weapon is the mind..and I will teach you how to use it…”
Jonas smiled..He liked it here. He loved wrestling. Things would come together while his family would fall apart...
