To say that my career in WCF thus far has had many triumphs would be more than a slight understatement. Since the very beginning, I have won gold. People’s Title, TV Title, Tag Team Title, Hardcore Title. I’ve done it all in WCF.
Actually, there’s one thing I that haven’t done: become World Champion. And that opportunity, which once seemed like something forever out of reach when I was climbing the ladder to the top, is now right before my eyes, right within my grasp. There’s nothing greater than this. I’ve fought for this chance, and now I get. Skyler Striker certainly made the right choice in picking me. We’re going to go out there an have an amazing match, which I have come to expect from a man as talented as him. The odds may be in Skyler’s favor since he is fighting me in his match, but in the end odds and predictions don’t mean anything. No one may believe in me now, but when I shock the world and win the title things will change.
I was ecstatic from the very moment the announcement was made. Hearing something like that seems to make everything that I’ve gone through, all the triumphs and disappointments I’ve had has led me to this point. All of that has made me grow to the point where I’m ready to put the final piece of the puzzle, the WCF World Title, into place. I’m ready for my destiny to be fulfilled.
In what should come as know surprise, Janie was also busting with excitement. The one thing she always wanted was success from the wrestler whom she associated with, something that she (correctly) knew would not happen with her brother Danny. She was only a short time away from saying that she was managing the World Champion, something she wanted to be able to do from the moment she emerged in a WCF arena.
Her excitement was such that only a little after the Slam where the match was announced, she called me. I had just finished packing up my gear and was walking to my limo that was parked just a bit away from the entrance to the arena. As the bitter cool wind blew through my hair, my phone began to ring.
Janie: Hello Mr. World Champion.
I guess you heard the announcement,
Janie: Yes, and I couldn’t be happier for you. We should go out when you come back to celebrate.
We could do that, but Janie, please remember something. This is the most important match of my career, so I have to be fully prepared for it. Don’t expect me to be willing to go out a whole lot before the match.
Janie: Maybe just go out a little bit then?
Fine. I’ve got to go now. I’ll see you soon. Bye.
Janie: Bye.
The limo ride to the hotel was thankfully short. What I needed at this point was some good sleep. The hotel room looked almost exactly the same as every hotel I’ve stayed in over the last several years of my life. Sure, to others not accustomed to great wealth, the expensive hotel rooms I pay for would practically make their mouths water. But when you’re me, having stayed in a place even as nice as this gets a bit unexciting after awhile. I guess that’s because there’s only so many times you can open the door and be overjoyed by the huge TV, the numerous spacious rooms, the most comfortable furniture available, and everything else when it’s so common. But I continue to stay at these places because I’ve grown accustomed to the living in the lap of luxury, even if I’ve found out that sometimes money can’t buy happiness.
I went to sleep, knowing that I was getting up early for my flight the next morning. But that wasn’t what I was thinking about. I was thinking about my World Title shot, my destiny…
After I arrived back in New York the next day, I did in fact go out to eat (at a very expensive restaurant of course) with Janie. To say it was a strange evening would be completely correct. We were making some very casual conversation, but something was definitely off. It was almost as if there was something looming over our heads, consuming our entire thoughts, making everything else seem far less important. I can’t say if this is want was on Janie’s mind, but for me it certainly was the World Title Match that loomed not too far ahead. There was so much to think about and so many questions. Hell, at this point I didn’t even have any idea what the Pyramid Match was. And I guess with all of that on my mind, I really wasn’t willing to devote my thoughts and time to this night out with Janie. I simply had too much to think about.
Much time has passed since that. Now I sit here thinking on Thursday night. I am preparing myself for what lies ahead. I still have a great mountain to climb, but at the summit is the greatest prize of all. The time draws near. Destiny awaits…
