So, this may seem like a silly question, but has anyone been watching NXT lately?
Ok, but seriously, the idea was broached to me that NXT (wonderful though it is) is slowly moving away from being a developmental territory.
They have their own belts and lineage, sure, but here's something to consider:
How come in the WWE draft they left so many obvious choices behind? Bayley, Nakamura, Joe, The Revival, pretty much all the current main eventers (though Bayley is finally on RAW).
So the question now becomes: is NXT becoming its own brand? I mean, it is pretty clear that they will keep around stars clearly ready for prime time in order to keep the roster from being devastated, and the quality has stayed very high as a result. But is this the model that WWE should be taking?
I don't really see this as a problem per se, as NXT shows regularly blow away PPVs in terms of match quality...but when you really think about it, is that for the best?
NXT is great at making stars, but it also has to keep them around longer until the next crop is ready, simply because they have the takeover events that need it.
You might even argue the NXT title is one of the most well protected and prestigious belts in the company at the moment.
So it's clear that NXT is no longer a true "developmental territory" in the traditional way, at least to me lol.
I think it's a good thing, but what about you?
