The Great Escape
Gemini rushed out of the suite where the Capuan Reducing Formula to quell the various appetites of the Capuans in Gemco Towers. However, Gemini was already on a stable dosage…
Grayson Pierce woke up from what felt like a year-long slumber. He stretched his arms as though he had never done it and various sensations rushed over him in euphoric bliss.
Gemini grabbed his head and squeezed it like he was trying to crush it like a grape. It throbbed like he had never felt before, or more realistically like he was oh too familiar with…
Pierce sat up and the feelings of euphoria were supplanted with a brief sense of fear as he looked around and found him in a room with no escape, the very same nightmare he had been living for longer than he could remember.
Gemini dropped to his knees and then to the ground. The pain was overbearing and overwhelming. He wished it would go away, he wished that Invidia would show up but she was surely doing what she was asked in debriefing Heidi and Hans.
The tiniest sliver of light shone in the darkness and Pierce instinctively went towards it. It was exactly what he needed and he began to feel that rush of adrenaline again that kept him alive this whole time. He got to it and it grew this time. It usually stayed the same or even shrunk but this time it grew…
Gemini put his hands to the ground. The pain was overwhelming him and he couldn’t even hold his head any longer. He wasn’t giving up… he was giving in. He was accepting the pain and trying to make himself stronger with it.
Pierce got to a door and was unsure of what to do. He reached his hand to the doorknob and felt the cold steel beneath his palm as he turned the handle and the door opened up. It was nothing as he had ever seen it before. The world was distorted beyond the door but an urge to explore pushed him forward.
Gemini felt his mouth open wide. It was soothing the pain to do so. So he laid on his back and kept his mouth open, taking in huge breaths of air and feeling a pacifying touch with each breath.
Grayson took one step out the door… then another. He felt a cool breeze rush through his perfectly manicured hair and then his body followed his feet. He looked down and saw a face that he never wanted to see again. He raised a boot for the kill…
The Kill
Gemini felt at ease finally. He quelled the pain that was rising from within and felt a darkness close upon him. He opened his eyes and saw a big boot closing in on him. It appeared to be moving in slow motion as he grabbed it and tossed his attacker to the ground and got up in one fell swoop.
He felt stronger and faster than ever. But most oddly he felt hungrier than he could remember. And the moment of confusion of his own sensations quickly redirected to the face that just tried to crush his skull. It was a face he never thought he would see again.
Gemini: Fucking Bates!
He shouted as Grayson Pierce stared back at him with confusion.
Grayson: Fuck you, Gemini.
This was a confrontation that was too long in the making. Both wanted to kill each other but neither could live without the other. Gemini felt his strength fade and he knew Grayson was fading at an even greater rate. He was going to have to do something and he was going to have to do it quick if he wanted to avoid complete devastation.
Gemini: Pierce… what the FUCK are you doing?
A perfectly delicate response for this situation.
Grayson: I don’t fucking know but I ain’t sticking around to find out.
He said as he turned and ran. Just as this happened the door opened from the suite and Invidia and Heidi stepped out, both seeming to have agreed on something and both looking absolutely stunning.
Invidia: Who was that?
She said pointing to the blur of humanity rushing down the hallway.
Gemini: Can I talk to you in private please.
He asked of his loved one and she happily obliged. They stepped back into the suite but Hans was in there. Without Acedia invading him as much he seemed to shed weight at an alarming rate. The once disgusting creature was now the size of an average American… overweight but still able to move. He happily got up and put on his clothes as he exited the room as well leaving Invidia and Gemini alone. He explained what he felt, the unbearable pain and the inexplicable release. Then he said the words that he himself had a hard time believing.
Gemini: That was Pierce… he escaped.
Invidia: What the… how are you still alive? How is he?
Gemini: He’s alive because I need him to be. I have no idea how I’m alive but I don’t think I will be without getting him back. The hunt for Avarice needs to stall, I need this or else Gemco and the prophecy is done.
Invidia: Did you ever think that maybe this is what the prophecy was all about?
He never considered it. The prophecy was very cryptic. It read of things that weren’t meant to be coming to fruition. This is why they thought that Teddy Battle was the prophesized one. A Human born Capuan was unheard of, but it could be explained scientifically. However this could not. A Capuan must inhabit a human to exist and then takes the form of that human. And when he is expelled the human dies.
But Pierce has escaped not once but twice. Once because of pure happiness and once now because of a scientific anomaly. Gemini had always felt this deep ceded connection with Grayson Pierce and maybe he was simply holding onto familiarity rather than expanding himself and feeling his true powers. He had moved with the quickness and agility that he had never done before, yet he felt he was getting weaker. Could this all be psychosomatic?
Gemini: We need to get Pierce back. Hold off all other searches. This is an APB. WE MUST get him back. But most importantly Heidi and Hans must NOT know of this. We cannot show any sign of weakness in front of the others.
Invidia: I’m gonna tell them.
Gemini: What the fuck is wrong with you. I just spoke so eloquently and confidently about what the plan was. I ended by saying don’t tell them and your first reaction is completely disobeying?
Invidia: Yeppers.
She said as she skipped out of the room and Gemini felt his heart sink. This must be that same sinking feeling that has been keeping Brent Alpine from being able to truly compete for the title. He’s been lacking something and maybe it was literal intestinal fortitude.
Gemini felt like he was going to be sick. He felt like he was going to vomit in this room but had nothing to release. It was this terrible feeling and his empathy towards Alpine grew. He knew that Alpine was nothing but a diminishing superstar with little skills and less balls. He was a coward and he bowed away when things got tough.
It was the same thing that happened when he lost the US title all those years ago. He was having a tremendous reign, and then he gave up for no reason. Things were getting hard and he felt like he couldn’t handle it. If there was one thing that Gemini understood it was the pressure of being a champ. When you’re the champ, of any title, the whole world was out to get you.
It could explain a lot about Brent Alpine. It could explain why he was so fearful of the world around him. It could explain why he acted the way he did, by reacting to the stimulus around him rather than being the stimulus. He was never the leader of his own world. He was merely a bit player and was never the star.
And Gemini was beginning to feel the same way, but a bit less. He was feeling like he was the costar of his life and the other star was gone. He was forced to either step up and take care of this situation like only he could or he could grovel at the feet of his costar to come back and join the cast with him again.
I mean how good would Lethal Weapon have been if Mel Gibson backed out and Danny Glover had to do it all himself?
‘I’m getting too old for this shit… I should probably take a nap.’
And then he did. He took a nap. Terrible fucking movie. Lethal Weapon 6, the weapon of sleep.
But Gemini wasn’t going to be Danny Glover. No, he had determined it at that moment. He built up the strength and began to do what Alpine has never been able to do. He was going to overcome adversity as it came his way rather than succumbing to it. He wasn’t going to give up he was going to fight.
He wasn’t going to become another joke.
He wasn’t going to become the guy who wins the title and loses it on his first defense. He wasn’t going to go gently into that good night. He was going to fight, and whether or not Pierce was a part of him or not didn’t matter. All that mattered was that he had his fists- Sarah Jessica Parker and Emily Blunt- with him and they could do the talking as his feet- Jeremy Piven and the fat kid from Goonies- did the walking.
So he stepped out of the suite feeling stronger and more confident than ever and saw Invidia standing alone. Heidi and Hans were gone.
Gemini: Where are the others?
Invidia: They’re taking care of something very important to us.
She smiled as she grabbed his hand.
Invidia: Come… there’s something I need to show you…
An Unexpected Meeting
Invidia took Gemini past their bedroom which was their normal rendezvous spot when she said ‘she had something to show him.’ He buzzed with anticipation knowing that it must be something important was coming his way.
She strode past the lines of laboratories studying various ways to control the human population. The greatest program to date was called Adoration, which is what Gemini felt of the project. It was a mist, similar to what had nearly destroyed Gemini, which when sent out into the world would change humans on the genetic level and change their DNA to render one third of them sterile and to pass on that gene to their children. A Retro Virus had yet to be perfected but his crack team of Dr. Patels were on it and if anyone could succeed it was them.
She finally stopped at a door and opened it up.
Invidia: Go…go on in.
She was so eager to give Gemini whatever was in this room and when he entered he was not disappointed. IT was like out of a sci-fi movie. Aliens like this didn’t exist. The gray skin, and giant holes for eyes. Aliens generally assimilated into the cultures that they visited or looked completely different from what Hollywood has deemed that they look like but this one was exactly as you would think.
It wouldn’t look up with his deep sunken eyes and breathed heavily like it had a deviated septum.
Gemini: Who are you?
He hoped he spoke English.
Alien: I am Janjing. I travelled through many lightyears to be here.
Its voice was low and terrifying. It shook the room as he spoke but it seemed to realize what it was doing so it quieted down towards the end of its speech.
Gemini: Where are you from?
Janjing: Earth.
Gemini: Don’t bullshit a bull shitter, Jan, you just told me that you travelled many lightyears to be here. Where the fuck are you from?
The Alien didn’t respond. Gemini was being too rough and he knew it. He had to calm down and regroup. He had been in a similar situation once at Omicron Persei 8 when he was captured. He was able to understand their language and learn it in his time there, but when he was interrogated they were hostile and he didn’t respond well to it either.
Gemini: I apologize for my tone. I’m… I’m just so excited to meet you. Where are you from?
Janjing: Earth…
Mother fucker, he thought.
Janjing: I’m from the distant future. To travel through time is to travel through space. Offset spacial divergence.
From his research this made sense. The only way to truly go back in time was to tear the space time continuum.
Gemini: So your kind took over the Earth in your future?
Janjing: No.
This could only mean one thing.
Gemini: Wait… you’re human?
Janjing: An evolutionary descendant. We evolved from humans.
The deep voice was intimidating to say the least. No wonder Gemini got hostile so quickly. This thing sounded like it was going to kill everyone in the room, which was just him. He didn’t know what to think of the creature. He feared it but was enamored by it as well.
Gemini: What are you doing here now?
Janjing: Observing.
Gemini: Why?
Janjing: Since evidence was destroyed.
Gemini imagined the post-apocalyptic world that this creature must have lived in. Depending on how far in the future he was from it could have been rebuilt on top of the ruins of this world, or it could have been still in the ruins of this world. It was terribly fascinating. There was one question on his mind...
Gemini: How was evidence destroyed?
Janjing: Nuclear war. Small numbers survived. Our ancestors.
Gemini: I’ve been fighting against overpopulation to protect the world, but its nuclear world that it needs to be saved from.
Janjing: Overpopulation leads to tension.
He knew it. But he felt his time was getting short with this thing.
Gemini: Can I ask you about your time?
Janjing: You are not capable of comprehending or accepting the discoveries of my time.
Gemini: I may be more capable than you think.
Janjing: The origin of the Universe… the nature of life is all known.
Gemini: You know the meaning of life?
This was a universal question. Every planet Gemini had travelled to all dogma remained the same. What is the meaning of life? If he had the answer…
Janjing: Not meaning… nature.
Gemini: I don’t follow.
Janjing: Meaning is something that is ascribed. Nature is the objective reality.
Gemini: You know how the universe was created.
Janjing: Yes.
Gemini: So you’ve seen God.
Another universal belief. All creatures believed in different ways, but at the core of all faiths there was a God that started everything. Even the Capuans were only able to trace back to milliseconds before the Universe began, but could not and still cannot figure out how it all started.
Janjing: We have evolved past the need for superstition. The need for a God or other myths.
Gemini: So then what happens when we die?
All faiths had different beliefs on what happened when you die. Hindi believed in reincarnation. Christians believed in heaven. Capuans believed that their souls went into Euspephian Volcano and was then burst out and sent to another planet. We all gathered at the eruptions and watched our recently deceased loved ones go on to their next life on a different plane.
Janjing: Death is a current construct. It does not exist. You will experience and have experience every instance of so called life. You, me and the woman outside the door. We all experience the same instances of life separated by what you call death.
Gemini: You’re blowing my mind Janjing. So you’re saying there is no God and we all experience each other’s lives?
Janjing: In essence, yes.
Gemini: I still don’t understand. How was the universe formed? Why are we able to live and travel within it so perfectly?
Janjing: There are an infinite number of Universes. Each with different physical properties. Virtually all do not support life as you know it. We exist in a universe that does support what you call life.
Gemini: Shit, dude. This is sick. So Nuclear War. You know… like who starts it?
Janjing: Dogma. Political and religious dogma. It is the root of all major conflict of your species. The weaponry held by the dogma driven states in your time will ultimately end your species.
Gemini: It’s all about morality. How do you judge morality?
Janjing: Compassion and evidence.
Gemini: I see. Thank you, Janjing. So you know you will stick out like a sore thumb in our planet looking like that. You were fortunate to end up here where we are accepting of other worldly things. I would like to do whatever I can to help you in your research and to ensure your safety.
Janjing: Thank you.
It exclaimed as Gemini walked out the room. He met up with Invidia.
Gemini: How did you find him?
Invidia: We got lucky he just kind of showed up.
Gemini: I learned a lot from him. I learned that I can live without Grayson. Death is merely a current construct. There is no such thing. I’m beginning to feel even stronger. I’m also beginning to understand morality as well.
Based off of compassion and evidence. Maybe I have been too harsh on Thomas Bates, you know. I’m not showing him any compassion. But then again he showed me none while we were struggling. When I met him I was Gemini. I trusted him with secrets that no one knew. You were merely a cyborg at the time, Invidia.
Invidia: I remember.
Gemini: He took me in. He let me run his group of misfit bikers and he helped get me to where I am today. For that I am forever grateful. However there comes a time in a man’s life where he needs to step up and do what’s right. Where he has to put his selfish nature behind him and follow compassion and evidence and be there.
That’s all I wanted from Bates. Just for him to be there. And he never was. And now that he’s here he’s trying to take away what I rightfully earned without ever truly earning the shot. For some reason the idiot Alpine agreed to give him an opportunity like he had never seen the big man before.
The big man never passes up opportunities. And he will succeed all the way to the big one. But that’s where he will falter. That’s where he will ultimately fail. He stepped into the ring last year at ultimate Showdown, went face to face with Dune and lost. In doing so… in defeat he earned a title shot at this very event exactly one year ago.
And he lost. He lost to Dune in stunning fashion. It was the beginning of his demise. It was what weakened him and made him start doubting himself. It was where he started believing that wrestling wasn’t as important as representing wrestling. It was that night as he stared up at the lights that he realized he was in the wrong business.
So he sputtered on. We dragged Doug Murdock along for the ride until he bailed out after Bates lost us the Trio’s title to Pantheon and then he faded away. He decided to run for senate. And I was truly on board because I saw the fire leave his eyes for the ring. I saw his passion fade away.
He wasn’t the monstrous mountain that tossed me nearly 30 feet in our first confrontation. He wasn’t the man who save me from Vapor Kings or the man that stood up to that same stable and fought side by side with me and Gonzo as we tore our way through the competition.
Gemini and Invidia turned the corner and got to their living room suite. Invidia opened the door of their refrigerator and grabbed a beer for Gemini.
Gemini: Water, please.
She changed her tactic.
Gemini: He was gone for such a long time before he left, Invidia. And while he was gone I went through those changes. He and the DRG were the catalyst to the pure joy that brought Pierce out in the first place. And he never even met me as a human. Even if in his world he wanted to believe that it was a schizophrenic episode he still never came to check on me. When I was challenging for the World Title against Wade Moor he came in to get a concussion from Moor.
We were supposed to fight BeachKrew. We were supposed to stand side by side once more. We were supposed to prove once and for all that the DRG was a stronger faction than BeachKrew. The world wanted to see it. He even agreed to one more match, not ever planning on returning to full action at that time, merely wanting to focus on his senate race.
Yet when the time came and Wade More and Jared Holmes were ready for the fight Bates was nowhere to be found. It shook my confidence and that paired with the fact that the infant Pierce child had passed away really began the turn for the worse, or in my case the better.
You see, Bates didn’t simply turn his back on the fed, he turned his back on me. After One last year when the awards were handed out the DRG barely got a fraction of the votes it should have as Stable of the year. We fucking dominated for 7 months. We held nearly every title at one point. But the Galaxy has a way of only wondering ‘what have you done for me lately?’
You see, Bates ruined the DRG’s shot at being named the greatest stable of the year. And it’s not the notoriety that I wanted. That’s just icing on the cake. But when BeachKrew was running this shit, shit was going downhill. I was one man. I was fighting the good fight, but I couldn’t fight it alone.
He finished his glass of water and handed it back to Invidia who sat down, lit an E-Cigarette and sat cross legged on the couch listening intently. Gemini had shouted and screamed so much about Bates, but never had he ever spilled his soul to her in such a way. She was honored that he felt open enough to do it. She had hoped that meeting Janjing would let something else out from him that he was missing.
Gemini: It was at this point that I had to start a new stable. And we were successful. And this brought fear to the fed. This brought fear and at the end of the day when a caged animal begins to get scared they do whatever it takes to break out of the cage, and that’s what BeachKrew did. They destroyed the cage and in turn tried to destroy the WCF.
They went off to another place and another time and now they are off destroying another place that they helped create. But I stayed here. I stayed, I never left. I took some much needed time off but I watched every show. I put my input in. I was ready for the fight at a moment’s notice.
Do you see what I’m saying, Invidia?
She nodded her head.
Invidia: It’s his fault.
Gemini: Exactly. It’s his fault. Not that Teddy died. Not that I reemerged as Gemini. And I’m not pissed at him for not being there for me when I was in a time of need. When he left it was fine. He was pursuing a dream. I didn’t like the terms he left on but I was in no position to stop him.
But that moment when he refused to fight after Wade Moor attacked him. That moment of cowardice that was meant to be the defining moment for the DRG. But it ended up being the defining moment for BeachKrew. That moment would have been the moment when we took them out as we did with the Vapor Kings and with the Poondock Saints. That was meant to be the moment that the reign of terror that BeachKrew was asserting over the WCF was to end and we could continue running as normal.
But Bates backed out and in turn they destroyed the fed. SO he wasn’t responsible for Teddy or Gemini… it was Thomas Bates’ fault that the fed went through the exodus it did. It’s Thomas Bates’ fault that we thought that we were watching the end of an era. Many fled, Seth tore up contracts, and it was all because Bates refused to fight BK.
He’s come back in an effort to relieve his guilt but the fact of the matter is that he will never be able to fill that hole in his own heart that HE created. 20 years he’s been a part of the DRG and done what he could to make them a powerful unit, but in one fell swoop he turned them into a laughing stock with his actions.
Compassion and evidence.
When things got tough I STAYED. When things got tough for Bates he left. He pursued and failed at another dream. And this week at Revenge… he’s going to fail at his dream of becoming World Champ as well.
Invidia: From your mouth to God’s ears.
Gemini: Oooh, there is no god. Janjing told me. Get this shit…
He started when suddenly the door burst open and Heidi walked in with a man on a leash crawling in front of her. He looked down and saw the submissive form of Grayson Pierce.
Invidia: Tada. I told you I should tell them. No human man could resist Heidi.
She was right. She was always fucking right.
Invidia: Wanna… wanna eat him?
She asked as she pulled out a napkin and some cutlery.
Gemini: No.
A collective gasp filled the room.
Gemini: I don’t need Grayson Pierce. I feel stronger than ever. But I do want this…
He reached his hand forward and a white mist left Grayson’s head and entered Gemini’s mouth in one giant breath.
Invidia: What was that?
It was a power that he didn’t realize he had until speaking with Janjing. We are all one with each other. The life I live is the life that you live separated by what we call death.
Gemini: His memories… that’s all I needed…NOW, I’m fucking ready for anything. Lock him up… he may be useful eventually…
“Duality” Plays throughout the Barclay Center in Brooklyn where WCF was hosting their Revenge VIP Event. A crowd of 250 people were invited to the new arena in Brooklyn for a meet and greet and a speech from the World Champ.
Gemini was careful not to cross path with Thomas Bates, not for fear of the Mountain, but of fear of what he would do to him. And some conspiracy must have prevented Alpine from showing up at all
(Gemini broke Alpine’s watch…shhhh!)
And the crowd of 250 sounded like a crowd of 15000 in the arena as the huddled around the ring in folding chairs. Gemini made sure to say hi to as many as he could before climbing into the ring. He stood tall and proud and grabbed the microphone.
Gemini: This is my first VIP presentation as World Champion. And I promise you it won’t be my last.
Crowd: GEMINI…GEMINI…GEMINI!!!
Gemini: I’ve worked for a long time in the WCF. I’ve been wrestling for even longer. In one life I grew up a poor son of a white supremacist. In another the son of a drunken pro wrestler. In another I’m an alien.
The crowd laughed not believing the last one.
Gemini: But in all of those lives I’m a professional wrestler, and it’s important to remember that. No matter what else I put myself through. No matter what else is going on in my life, no matter WHAT… I’m a fucking wrestler. I fight to live and I live to fight. And I LOVE to fight.
This is who I am. And all of you and the thousands that will watch this on Facebook live have seen me and what I’m willing to do to succeed. I’m a mother fucking fighter and this week I have quite the challenge ahead of me. I can back down, or I can face it head on.
Of course I’m doing the latter.
When I step down the aisle and see Thomas Bates and Brent Alpine waiting for me I’m going to head down there and slither under that bottom rope like I do every week. I’m going to step up to the two men who both tower over me and I’m going to say to them ‘Are you ready for a fight?’
Because I sure as hell am!
The crowd cheers as Gemini smiles back at them.
Gemini: Don’t go crazy guys. Because I’m not fighting for you. I’m fighting for this… the WCF World Championship. This title that eluded me for so long. The title that I fought for at One and lost and then fought for at Aftermath again and again came up short.
But did I cry… GOODNESS NO! I kept going along and signing my song. And I came back at the right time to get into the most prestigious match in the WCF Ultimate Showdown and came out of that match VICTORIOUS! Oh so glorious.
It’s all about this title. It always has been. I entered this fed three years ago with one goal. I paired up with Jay Omega leading up to one and the final task on our list that led to me regaining my billions was winning the World Title. Well I did it. I fucking did it and it’s not over yet.
Many people would be content with simply winning. Stuart Slane as a recent example won the title then became complacent. As did Jeff Purse and Oblivion before them. But complacency is a bad word in my life. Because I didn’t just want to win the World Title I wanted to become the greatest World Champ this fed has ever seen.
And there’s some big shoes to fill to do that. There’s Dune… there’s Jonny Fly… there’s Steve Orbit… there’s Odin Balfore… there’s Corey Black just to name a few. These are the paths that great legends in this industry have paved and now I get to walk along the same path. But not only that… I get to carve my own path as well.
You see, this is not a time for me to tell you why Bates and Alpine will lose. You can see that every time they step into the ring. You can see what they are lacking that I have. Right now I’m telling you why I not only deserve to win, but I WILL win this week at Revenge.
I have passion. You can tell that every time I step into the ring. I have fire… you can see that by the fact that I’m burning up right now. But just like you couldn’t tame the Skynard Bird you can’t put out my fire. Because this fire burns with the pride and dignity of the WCF Title. I didn’t work this hard for this long to let go so soon.
If Bates or Alpine plan on getting this title it’s going to be through my cold dead hands… and even then it will be hard for them to get because this title is where it belongs and this title is where it’s going to stay. So this week at Revenge it won’t be like last year where I was truly fighting for Revenge. There will be no surprise deaths of beloved superstars… the night will simply end with my hand in the air and Bates and Alpine on the ground wondering what they have to do to beat me.
Gemini drops the mic as ‘Duality’ by Slipknot plays again throughout the arena and the crowd cheers for the WCF World Champ.
