Unless you've been living under a rock in the middle of the Sahara, you probably know about the flooding in Louisiana. Over 100,000 homes were destroyed and over a dozen deaths have been confirmed. Thankfully, many of the residents both affected and not affected by the flooding, have helped those who have lost their homes. WCF wrestler CJ Phoenix flew down to his birthplace of East Baton Rouge, one of the hardest hit areas, and assisted those who were salvaging what they could from their now dilapidated houses.
"I just wish I could do more. I thank God to be able to help people, but it hurts knowing that I can't help them all. That's why I'm glad I'm not the only one. It's going to a team of selfless and generous people to rebuild the places affected by the flood. We have that, and hopefully we'll continue to have that."
Phoenix, who had earned free night stays at various casinos, sold his 2015 Dodge Charger Hellcat in order to pay for the flights to the various casinos that 27 families will be spending the next two weeks in along with some cash to help them get back on their feet. He spent the rest of the money on food and supplies to be brought to the Parish of East Baton Rouge. When asked about selling the car he had saved up for and bought earlier this year, he said "If I had a second one, I'd sell it too.".
CJ Phoenix has been in Baton Rouge since the 15th. He boarded a flight to Columbus, Ohio early this morning to prepare for WCF Slam tomorrow night. The flooding may have washed away thousands of homes, but it has not dampened the spirits of CJ and others who continue to help overcome this disaster. We'll keep you updated as time progresses. So to all of you out there helping those suffering in Louisiana, thank you and God bless.
