Lincoln was a very intelligent person, but he was not a very good person. One of the things he believed in, was that whites and blacks could not live in the same continent, and he actively sought out colonies to forcibly remove all black people to either Africa or the Caribbean. That's one of the issues I have with him, and with a large number of the "Abolitionists."
He violated the Constitution and waged an unconstitutional war against his Southern neighbors, and when losing the war changed the very purpose of the war to be "slavery" in an effort to force Britain and France to rethink their plans of supporting the Confederacy. Originally the War was over Secession, but the Cause of Secession can spark one hell of a debate.
He wasn't the first to attack State's Rights, but he is the one viewed as killing it. Before Lincoln came around, the States had more power due to the 10th Amendment. If something wasn't mentioned in Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution, the U.S. Congress had no power to do it (even though some "laws" violated the Article, Lincoln expanded it more so). He also introduced an income tax, which at the time was unconstitutional.
He waged war without the authority of Congress and suspended the Writ of Habeas Corpus.
Ordered Newspapers unfriendly to his Administration to shut down, or face arrest. Also arrested multiple people for speaking out against him, and even issued a Warrant for the arrest of Chief Justice Roger Taney for the "crime" of declaring in Court that Lincoln had no authority to suspend the writ of habeas corpus, and that the authority to do so resided in Congress alone.
Declared Martial Law in Maryland in order to prevent a vote on Secession. This also led to the arrest of Maryland's legislators, including their U.S. Senator. Baltimore's Mayor, and Police force were also arrested without charges.
On the 26th of December, 1862 Lincoln ordered the largest mass execution in American history when he hand picked and ordered 38 Sioux Indians to be hung in order to appease his supporters in Minnesota.
There are many more, but these are the ones that really stand out for me. Lincoln was a very intelligent man, but he was not a very good one. It is his assassination that propelled him to be a Martyr, otherwise he would have been seen as one of the worst Presidents in American history.
Don't mistake this as full support for Jefferson Davis. I can't stand him either.

Sherman wanted to burn and kill everything in his path, and was known for killing Conscripts (freed slaves following the army) that got too close to him. I can't say I've heard of him specifically targeting children, but I know his men targeted plenty of women, of all races.
Lincoln did "stop slavery", but not due to the Emancipation Proclamation. That executive order freed no one. It was the 13th Amendment that ended slavery, after the war. The thing to remember is that many of he "Abolitionist" viewed that the two races cannot coexist, which was a big purpose of their wishing to eliminate slavery.

Also, please remember I am a very strict Originalist Constitutionalist. Violations against the Constitution is a violation of our highest Laws, and when someone violates it as much as some, such as Lincoln, did then I do hold a bit of a grudge.

The Civil War has always interested me, and its disgusting what our text books (AKA Government Propaganda Books) teach our kids about it. Lincoln wasnt the man everyone thought he was, and he only freed slaves because he thought it would help him win the war. What happened after he freed the slaves? The first all black infantry was formed in the South and they FREELY fought for the South.
Does anyone know what a Jayhawker is? No, not the KU Mascot. lol It was a group of Union Soldiers that went to towns with no men (cause they were all fighting in the war) and they raped and killed all the women and children.
It disgust me that 95% of our population thinks the Civil War was started because of slavery. Slavery had almost NOTHING to do with the differences the two sides had; and Lincoln freed those people for all the WRONG reasons. Obviously, he did a great thing in the end, but he didn't do it with good intentions.
