The scene opens into Henry’s bedroom. Henry is in his bathroom brushing his teeth. He finishes up and rinses his mouth. Walking out into the hallway he notices the house is silent.
(Shouting)“Layla?”
Henry doesn’t get an answer which is odd because he has become used to Layla waking up much earlier than himself. She is usually putsing around in the kitchen or out on the back porch when he gets up. He enters the kitchen and sees a small post it note on the counter.
“Went to store, be back soon”
Henry puts the note down and notices that the door to the back porch is open. He walks over and steps out onto the porch. It is early and yet the heat and humidity of an august morning is stifling. Layla often spent her mornings out off the porch but Henry never really knew why. He tended to stay inside the house unless he was going to or from work or the gym. He had come a long way from his basement dwelling days but the outdoors were still one of the things he avoided. Layla had made an effort to help get him out but he was taking it slow.
“I wonder what she does out here”
Henry stepped down the stairs of the back porch and his bare feet sat in the coolness of the grass. He realized that he sort of liked the feeling of the grass between his toes. He decided to make more of an effort to get out and experience the things around him. Layla was good for him in that regard.
As he stared out at the yard in front of him Henry heard a buzz behind him and suddenly felt a sharp pinch on the back of his ear
“Ahh fuck. What the hell?”
Henry reached to see what was behind him and felt another pinch….and another….and another. Before Henry realized what was happening he was being swarmed by angry bees. Henry tried to run but the bees kept up with him. They stung his head, his back, his arms, everywhere. Henry flailed wildly and tried to swat them away. Finally Henry made it to the back door and ran into the house. He slammed the door behind him and ran straight to the shower. Turning it on he ducked his head under the water. One final bee gave him a parting sting before he finally felt that they had all stopped following him. With his head under the shower he heard the front door open.
“Henry you up? I brought bagels”
Layla shouted from the living room
“Im in the bathroom. Come quick!”
Layla came around the bathroom and poked her head in
“Oh my goodness. Are you ok? What happened?”
“I got attacked by bees. We need to call an exterminator”
Layla paused
“No. we cant call an exterminator”
Henry was beyond confused
“Why not? Didnt you hear what I just said? I got attacked by bees. Theres a whole fucking swarm of them out there!!”
“No, they’re mine. Im raising them”
Henry stared blankly at Layla and processed what she just said
“WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU RAISING BEES IN MY HOUSE?!?!?!?!”
“DON’T SCREAM AT ME!!! THEY ARENT IN YOUR HOUSE. THEYRE OUTSIDE!”
“WELL THANKS FOR LETTING ME KNOW THAT THERE IS A GIGANTIC SWARM OF BEES JUST SHOOTING THE SHIT OUTSIDE MY BACK DOOR. YOU KNOW, I WOULDN’T WANT TO BE SURPRISED BY SOMETHING LIKE THAT. OTHERWISE I COULD HAVE POSSIBLY BEEN STUNG BY EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM!”
“Don’t be fucking sarcastic with me. You haven’t gone outside into the backyard in years I would imagine. I didn’t think you would even consider going near the bee hive”
“Why the hell are you raising bees in the first place? What kind of shit is that?”
“Its my hobby”
“Your hobby is to raise tiny death bugs?”

“Your hobby is to raise tiny death bugs?”
“OH please, they aren’t death bugs. Theyre fucking Honey Bees. They didn’t hunt you down, you must have stepped to close to the hive. Its not that big a deal”
Henry turns the shower off and dries his head. Bee stings are noticeable on his neck and chest.
“Its not that big a deal? I have a three way match this week that was already going to take every ounce of strength I had. Now I am covered in bee stings!”
“Oh relax, youll be fine”
“Fine? Let me tell you about the guys im going up against Layla. Oblivion is a former two time world champion. Im not really sure what his deal is right now but long story short, he is a scary mother fucker. Theres some sort of demon or beast or animal inside of him that keeps trying to get out. Its like hes a cool dude one minute and then the next minute Rosie O’Donnell is climbing out of his soul and Im not talking about cool early 2000’s Rosie. I am talking about 2007 “The View” Rosie. The one who fought Donald trump and insisted that September 11th was an inside job. Im talking about mean, scary, absurd Rosie. Do you have any idea how terrifying it is to step into the ring with someone and you honestly don’t have a clue if you are getting a pro wrestler or Lunatic Rosie?! That’s downright frightening. How am I supposed to prepare for that crap? At least before I could count on the fact that I felt good and was in great physical shape. Now I am covered up in a hundred bee stings because of your stupid hobby. Which, by the way, is not a hobby. Turning someone else’s yard into a bee sanctuary without telling them is not a hobby, its attempted murder.”
Layla starts to say something but Henry interrupts her. She puts her Head down
“And Doc Henry? You want to know about Doc Henry? Because so do I. I don’t know anything about his in ring career. I haven’t seen him wrestle yet and that concerns me. He is a complete unknown to me. You know what I do know about him though? I know that they don’t call him Doc the cock for nothing. I saw him in the shower after the last show. You ever see a python chase an animal down a hole? That’s what we are dealing with here. The man is taller laying down.”
Layla blushes
“But none of that stuff about him matters in the ring Layla. I mean sure, it’s a little more awkward to suplex him and I certainly wouldn’t want to hold him up for a powerbomb to long but I can get past all that. What I cant get past is the fact that I know I can beat Doc Henry. I know I can beat oblivion. You know why I know I can beat them? Because I can beat anyone I go up against when I am in the right frame of mind. I was in that mindset Layla and your stupid bees have put a damper on that. I have 3 and a half days until Slam, if these bee stings aren’t healed up by then it means I walk into that match less than a hundred percent. If I am going to be Rosies big fat ass and Doc with his pet iguana, I am going to need to be at a hundred percent. The bees have to go Layla”
Henry pushes his way past Layla and heads to his bedroom. Layla is left standing in the bathroom with her head down. Henrys door closes behind him and Layla waits a moment before finally picking her head up and walking to her room. She sits on her bed but restlessly stands up and walks across the hall to henrys door. She knocks but gets no answer. After knocking again she opens the door to find Henry rubbing Benadryl on the stings. She stands in the door and speaks softly to him.
“Im sorry Henry. Im sorry my bees stung you and im sorry I didn’t tell you about them. I didn’t think it would cause a problem. Henry, I am passionate about two things in my life. Wrestling and Honey Bees. Don’t ask me why, I just find them peaceful. They help pollinate flowers and the keep the ecosystem that we rely on thriving.”
“I remember when I told my mom I wanted to be a pro wrestler she told me I was stupid. She told me to pick something more realistic. So I said Beekeeper. She told me I would never amount to anything if I kept my head in the clouds like that. I was just a little girl henry but I knew that was what I wanted and it hurt so bad that my mother wasn’t supportive of that. So when I got older my mom wanted me to go to school to become a doctor or a lawyer or really anything but a wrestler but I knew what I wanted henry.”
“So I moved out. I hit the road and I came across Johns wrestling school. I realized right away that he was a sleezeball but he took me in. He offered to teach me. It was the first time that I realized I could do this. I could make it on my own and it didn’t matter that my mother didn’t want anything to do with me”
“My mother still hates what im doing and she wont answer my calls but those bees? Those bees are where I can find a little bit of peace. You of all people should understand that. Im jealous of you henry. Your mohther may have died to young but she loved you for you and she accepted you. We aren’t all that lucky. Some of us have to rely on other things to find acceptance.”
“I need my bees Henry. Please don’t make me get rid of them”
Henry is silent and Layla starts to walk away
“Layla….”
Layla stops and turns back towards him. Henry looks at her in the eyes and smiles.
“Can we eat the fresh honeycomb?”
Layla perks up and runs into Henrys room to hug him. He is still awkward about it and the hug is no where near as smooth as it should be.
“We need to teach you how to hug you big weirdo”
The scene fades out.
Henry turns the shower off and dries his head. Bee stings are noticeable on his neck and chest.
