@@@
(Scene fades in with a familiar song playing, lightly at first, then a bit louder..It is pitch black..The song, "This is Dedicated to The One I Love" by The Mamas and The Papas kicks in...A silhouette of trees stars to emerge as the sun starts to rise...more of this landscape is revealed..rough, rocky terrain, dirt..and a figure comes slowly into view..a silhouette of a hooded man facing the skyline..
"..and the darkest hour..is just before dawn..."
With the first jagged shot of light from the sun over the mountains, the music changes and the silhouetted figure starts to run...Flux Pavillion's "I can't stop" now frames the scene full volume..The camera follows the mans feet, nimbly yet forcefully navigating the unsure terrain..The man stops, and we see him lift a dead log and do five quick curls of the massive piece of wood..with a hard exhale, he drops the log and continues on, running through brush, through slightly carved trails, his already dirty Asiics Running Shoes getting even dirtier..
The man comes upon a steep incline, and attacks it with the agility of a cat, then navigating the even longer decline after it with the skill of a skier managing a black diamond run...when he reaches the bottom of the hill, an enclosed heavenly quiet area with a babbling brook running in the canyon..The man whose journey we have followed is @@@, the latest sensation in WCF, the morning after he and his opponent at Ultimate Showdown, Meteoric Rise, dominated their competition on the last Slam card..@@@ removes his hood, kneels to the babbling spring and splashes his face and head with cold clear water, lifts his head, and speaks, not to the camera, but with the knowledge of the camera being there..Music fades out..)
@@@: You know, its a real good thing I not only have a gym, but I also own 5,000 acres of land..Keeps me from getting bored or complacent..There's trails..nature..desert, and forest..But this..This is my favorite spot..
I first found it shortly after I bought the property..I was hiking just outside my house..Heading in a hundred different directions that first week I was here..I was shocked to find what appeared to be a riverbed once upon a time, and decided that I was going to make this my own private sanctuary..I transplanted the tallest, heartiest fir trees, piped in fresh water from my home that replenishes this small, compact eco system that thrives..Despite the toughest of odds..
(The camera quick pans to a clearing in the trees to reveal a desert wasteland for miles around..quick pan back into the shady, lush forest that @@@ has created for himself..Now he addresses the camera)
@@@: This forest..much like me..has survived harsh conditions to succeed..this forest reminds me of my struggle to maintain inner peace and tranquility, despite the wretched conditions that surround me. It is here where I contemplated my return to the ring..It is here that I analyzed how I was going to return, and where..Here is where I also came the day after my first match here in WCF..
(He shifts his weight, uncomfortable, acting as though he wants to say something but something within him is stopping him from doing so..He then shakes it off, and addresses us again, this time chuckling a little bit..)
@@@: You know, its kind of funny..I did not anticipate my debut to exactly be what it was..
(Mood changes from light to intense...)
@@@: I was a World Champion..A U.S. Champion..I was a star before most kids finish college..I was THE MAN..And then to come back to a tag match only made when the owner of the company, in his ignorance and arrogance, SHREDS MY CONTRACT...To be in an 8 man tag where only 3 were actually "in it"..Clearly, Seth Lurch has no GODDAMNED IDEA..Who his talent truly is..BUT I DIGRESS..
Some good did come out of that match..A young man with more heart than height, weighing 143 lbs soaking wet made fools out of 4 wrestlers BY HIMSELF! That man is Damian Kaine, a youngster I respect for his courage and moxie..I hope he sends the Baron back to the Gulag..I hope he gives him the Ol' Stalin Treatment..The Baron and the Hindenburg have a few things in common..Lots of Hype..Lots of hot air..And come Ultimate Showdown, he'll go down like the Hindenburg, faster than his mom did on the streets of Germany during the "hard times"..
Then there was Meteoric Rise..At first glance, he looks like a greasy millennial who you would see at a coffee shop spouting nonsense about his feelings and his theories about 9/11 and thermide paint! And then..there was his son..His little beggar boy..Man, I couldn't stand that kid..And I couldn't stand Rise..Rise struck me at first glance as a bum, a shiftless wanderer who would claim to be Jesus in a crowd while his son collected Marlboro Miles from the trash..And when the time came to make an impact, considering most of my competition was below me, well, I took out my angst on these two, who further proved my points when he cheated to beat a jobber..
(@@@'s face shows a small bit of remorse as he continues his next statement..)
@@@: After that first match, I came back here..I was Wrestler of The Week! FOR DOING NOTHING! I was PISSED! I made quite an impact, but at what price? The phone calls, the emails..shaming me for injuring a child when I have two of my own...The messages on Social Media..To put it mildly, it was annoying...I left the noise behind and came here to think..I made my peace with myself, and decided to move forward, hoping that the boy and his father could be taught a lesson..But I also did some research..I looked at this guy as a wrestler, not as a deadbeat dad, and found myself actually respecting his skills in the ring, which are quite extensive..When I found out he was a single father, raising his boy alone, I gained more respect for him..and some rarely found remorse..
The next week, I was partnered with him..Rise, it was smart not to bring your kid..See what happened? You won fairly, using your skill, and we DOMINATED our inferior opponents. And now, we settle our differences at The Ultimate Showdown..You and me..If you are half the man I think you can be, you'll leave your shit talking boy in the stands where he belongs..Better yet, I'll pay for a suite with all of his favorite foods, entertainment, and all the comforts of home..
Now, why would I do this for my opponents son? Because I want to give Rise a chance to prove his manhood..This will be WCF's first look at me and him in singles competition..Rise and I are two of the best newcomers this organization has ever seen! We are gamechangers, we are the future, and the future is now..It would be a disaster to have what could be a 5 star classic featuring the next standard bearers in this industry..RUINED BY YOUR SON!
So, think about it Rise..You and me..who is the next standard bearer? Who will take the belts from the old guard and bring a new empire to WCF??? Its up to us..Lets show them who the fuck we are!
But no matter what you do or say, Ive been scouting you..while youve been showing yourself in our matches, Ive been taking notes..You havent seen a FRACTION of what I can do..Expect the unexpected..You won't know what hit you..And then, while your son looks on..I'll make sure his Daddy gets to empathize..MARK MY WORDS!!!
(Intense stare..he gets up and runs double time up the hill..FADE TO BLACK..)
