Preface-"Helplessness"
Chase is locked inside of a floating cell that looks like the Elimination Chamber minus the ring and holding pods. Below the chamber's what appears to be a sea of shadowy creatures staring at the chamber. There is dried blood on the cell floor from the stab wound in Chase's chest. A portal opens and Progenitus walks through it, levitating in front of the trapped Chase.
Progenitus: Hello again, Chase. Did you enjoy having front row seats to the decimation of Andrew Marx?
Chase: There was NO NEED for you to do that! You won the match!
Progenitus smirks while shaking his head.
Progenitus: You're still not learning, are you? You're still stuck on wins and losses. I didn't care who was awarded the victory. My goal was to be the only one to be able to walk out of that match on his own, and that's just what happened.
Chase: You ruined a man's career! He had a future! He had a family!
Progenitus: He HAD a future, and why should I care!? Trick question! I shouldn't, I don't, and neither should you! He's the guy that claimed that the first matchup between you two would be the end of you. He threatened to end your career and use it as a stepping stone to further his. I did what you were too weak to do both of the previous times you and him were in the ring at the same time. So I ask you, how does it feel to ruin a man's life?
Chase: What!? You ruined it!
Progenitus laughs.
Progenitus: Yeah, but they don't know that. Who's name will come up on the news stories? They'll say "Chase Jackson" ended the career of Andrew Marx. Every day for the rest of your life, you'll have to deal with the fact that you just sat there and watched someone's future get ripped away from them.
Chase: I didn't do that!
Progenitus: Yes you did! I can tell by the look in your eyes that you know it's your fault. Those people out there don't know I exist, so they'll point their fingers at you. Like you said, that man had a family, Chase. He had a future, and it's YOUR fault that it's gone. Why, Chase? How is Andy supposed to support himself? Think about the people that actually gave a damn about him, watching as his back was broken into tiny pieces.
A hard chill slowly descended down Chase's back as the guilt slowly began to overtake him. Progenitus could sense the guilt and sorrow building within Chase. He thrived on this, and continued to torment him.
Progenitus: It's finally starting to sink in, isn't it? No matter how hard you try to deny it, you're the out of control monster. I'm perfectly calm, focused, and successful in endeavors. You wanna know why I didn't kill you when I stabbed you? It's because I enjoy watching you suffer. Of course, this is just the beginning.
Chase: I hate you.
Progenitus: Is that anger? Do you...despise me right now, Chase?
A fiery rage consumed the earlier chill within Chase.
Chase: I'm going to kill you!
Progenitus: There's that hatred I've been looking for. Once again, you've proven yourself to be unstable. You're a bloody, miserable mess of guilt and anger, and I love it. You're trying so hard to keep it all together. You've tried bottling up your emotions, and that makes you soft. You have regrets, doubts, weaknesses, and fears. I have none. However, there is some rage within you. Yeah. You harbor vengeance in your soul. I saw it when you crashed that production truck and attacked that guy that assaulted Kaiyah. Hmmmmmm...maybe that'll work.
Chase: The hell are you talking about?
Progenitus: I'm going to unleash the ruthlessness in your heart by bringing out so much of your sorrow, pain, blood, sweat, and tears that it'll kill you. Then, the only thing that will be left to rise from the ashes will be the rage trapped within you, or shall I say, below us?
Progenitus looks down at the shadow creatures, causing Chase to do the same.
Chase: Those creatures...are a part of me?
Progenitus: That's right. These creatures represent all of the repressed memories you have, scratching and clawing away at your mind. Some grow stronger from your anguish, while others gain power from your frustration. Once they reach you up here, they'll tear your soul apart. You know, they seem to be ready for the main course. So let's feed them.
Chase: NO!
Progenitus: You don't have a choice! You see, I'm about to do something that I know will push you off the deep end, and it involves Kaiyah. I'm going to take her apart piece by piece until she's nothing more than the scared, lost little addict she's always been.
Chase: You bastard!
Chase lunges at the cell and starts pounding on it, slowly making a dent in the chamber.
Chase: If you so much as tr-ahhh!
He clinches his chest where the stab wound is and falls to a knee in agonizing pain.
Progenitus: That's going to happen to you every time you try to attack me. Your mind may want you to rip me to shreds, but that stab mark won't let you. Be sure to take a good look at Kaiyah when I see her, because it'll be the last time you see her with a stable mind. For now, I'll leave to think about what you did to Andrew Marx some more. Until next time, Chase.
Progenitus tears open a portal and laughs as he walks through it.
Chase: No. I can't just let this happen. I can't let him destroy all of the hard work she's put in to make herself better, but...what if he's right? What if there's nothing I can do to stop him? Even if I could, I can't undo what I couldn't prevent from happening. Ugh!! Why can't I get these thoughts out of my head!?
The shadow creatures grow a little and get slightly closer to Chase as everything fades to black.
-End of preface-
April 18th
Toronto, Ontario, Canada
After witnessing the events of Slam unfold, Kaiyah has flown to Toronto to meet CJ Phoenix and do that thing you humans call "conversing". She spends the day trying to figure out what happened to Phoenix before having to leave the following day. The following takes place a few minutes before she takes a flight to Green Bay for an upcoming conference.
Kaiyah: Are you feeling any better?
Phoenix: Yeah. Much better actually.
Kaiyah: I was worried about you when I saw that attack. You have to be more careful next time. You'll be lucky if Seth even books you for Aftermath.
Phoenix: You're right. I feel terrible about it. I just...I don't know what came over me. Plus, he was already threatening me before our first match, and when he ambushed me, I just snapped.
Kaiyah: I understand. Stress builds up, and you try to keep it professional. Besides, it's not completely your fault. Like you said, you were ambushed. Also, I should've talked to you more about the promo you cut before that match. I thought it was your way of blowing off steam.
Phoenix: It's okay. We all make mistakes. You technically aren't wrong though. It was a way to blow off steam. I didn't know I had that animosity built up. Going back to what you said about Seth, he damn near yelled my ears off after the show. Half of it was about Marx, and the other half was about the referees.
Kaiyah sighed as a sad look grew on her face.
Kaiyah: I really feel bad for him. His WCF career was so young. As for the refs, you know that was uncalled for.
Phoenix: I know. I was still on edge when it happened.
An announcement comes through the intercom that Kaiyah's flight is now boarding.
Kaiyah: Well. I guess I'll see you in a few days.
Phoenix: Be safe out there. Love you!
Kaiyah: Thanks. Love you too!
The two kiss before she makes her way to the plane.
