“Cause’ all I’ve ever wanted was a place to call my own…’
- excerpt from ‘All I Ever Wanted’ by Shinedown
Our scene for this promo is a town café, named ‘Central Parklife Café’. The outside looks exactly the same as the ‘Central Perk’ café on ‘Friends’ – and shockingly, when we look inside, so does the interior. And predictably, the couch, stool, coffee table and armchair are all taken by the group of people the scene focuses on. The stool holds one Dylan Ryder, a stable partner of Skyler in another company. He is dressed in all white, his hair is dyed platinum blonde to an extent that there is almost no yellow and almost completely white, and he has a pair of deep blue eyes that seem to penetrate the very depths of the soul, matching his name “The Dove”. He is engaged in a staring competition with the man on the viewer’s left of the couch, who happens to be his tag team partner “The Dreamer” Jayden Sarek. Jayden is staring but trying incredibly hard not to laugh at Dylan and his soul-penetrating eyes. Jayden is dressed in slightly more casual clothes, including a pair of blue denim jeans and a black shirt reading ‘Dove + Dreamer = Lifeline’. His hair is a spiked, yellow blonde and his smile could equal that the biggest emoticon you’ve ever seen. He bursts out laughing at Dylan, who simply sighs and takes a drink of his coffee. The man on the other side of the couch is Skyler Striker himself, dressed in a set of black checkered pants with a grey shadowed eagle on the back, and a flowing blue and white Hawaiian shirt, and of course, his sunglasses. He is smiling at his two stable partners and drinking from his glass of coca cola. The last member of the group is eight-year-old genius Jade Striker, Skyler’s daughter, wearing the usual casual clothes and reading a technology magazine.
Dylan: Face it, Jayden, you can’t beat me. You always end up bursting out in laughter.
Jayden: Have you ever looked at you, Dylan? It’s impossible not to laugh.
Dylan: I’m not sure whether that is an insult or whether you just suck at this game. Skyler’s beaten me before.
Jayden: Because Skyler has composure!
Dylan: And you don’t?
Jayden: No!
Jayden and Dylan both burst out in laughs as Skyler enters himself in the conversation. Jade briefly looks up from her magazine and shakes her head in a disapproving manner.
Skyler: It’s not too hard. You just have to know where to stare at.
Jayden: Why are we here anyway?
Skyler: Because you two are running from the Bond Brothers after you trashed their hotel room a little while ago. And plus, I need to get Jade away from the house.
Dylan: Yeah, I saw that. That’s a dangerous, dangerous man you’ve got on your hands now, Skyler.
Jade: He’s not dangerous, Dylan. He’s just a little… different.
Skyler: Different, Jade? You of all people should be smart enough to know that Blades is out of his mind.
Jade puts down her magazine with a touch of anger behind the movement, which Skyler notices. Dylan and Jayden keep silent as the father and daughter debate.
Jade: Dad, he’s a wrestler, and works for someone, just the same as you. The style he wrestles in is different, the way he acts is different, but nonetheless he’s a human being just like you!
Skyler removes his sunglasses and tucks them in his pocket, flicking his wavy blonde hair out of his face to reveal the set of eyes we know only too well, coloured a fiery red. He takes a drink from his coffee and sets it down gently on the table before speaking again.
Skyler: Jade, he’s tricking you. He came to the house while I was at Slam so he could try and bring you over to his side instead of mine! I don’t mind you getting behind him as a fan when he’s fighting other people. But when he’s fighting me, I need all the support I can get. Danny Vice had his family…
Jade snaps at this and completely loses all sense of self.
Jade: Danny Vice, Danny Vice! That’s all I hear from you! Danny this, Vagrant that – it’s over, dad! You beat him! You’re always telling me to let the past go, so here’s an idea for you – practice what you preach. Maybe then you’ll see that the future doesn’t rely on Danny Vice for a change, it revolves around Jack of Blades! And the way you’re acting, dad, I’m beginning to think that maybe he’s not the real bad guy here!
Skyler lowers his voice and speaks in a voice that lets everyone watching know that Skyler is about to explode any minute.
Skyler: Get out.
Jade: Fine!
Jade stands and walks out of the café. Dylan and Jayden nod and run out the door, following her, leaving Skyler alone in their part of the room. He lowers his head, covering his face with his hands, and when he pulls it up a few seconds later, there are tears running down Skyler’s face, the red eyes once filled with anger still a flaming red but now sad, regretful. He pulls out his laptop from his briefcase located just in front of him and starts it up, going into the email function and typing the addressee as ‘Jack of Blades’. Skyler types it up within the next few minutes and sends it off once he is done, and the email preview looks like this:
To: Jack of Blades (Fellow WCF Employee)

Re: Jade
So, Jack, if you think I don’t know what you’re doing, you’re wrong. You invaded my house, and stole my belongings, and on top of all that, you’ve messed with Jade. I didn’t care about losing the match to Alastair. Danny Vice messed with me on a personal level, and I took him down. You’re messing with me and my daughter on a level that’s beyond personal. It looks to me like at Thirteen, it’ll be you and Jade vs. me. But I won’t give up. If you thought that you’d go and pull a Raven on me, you did it. Unlike Sandman, however, I am not going to snap. The Fatebringer knows why you’re doing this – you’re afraid of what fate and the Fatebringer holds for you. At Thirteen, Jack, I’m coming for your hardcore title. And regardless of whether Jade is on your side or not, I am going to unleash hell upon you, to fulfill a promise I made to my daughter a little while ago – to let her shake your hand while you’re unconscious in the ring and let her hold the WCF Hardcore Title, inscribed ‘Skyler Striker’. See you in thirteen.
-sincerely, your worst nightmare
“The Fatebringer” Skyler Striker
The sent icon appears onscreen and Skyler shuts the laptop down. He looks to the door as he hears the entrance bell ringing and sees Dylan and Jayden walk in with Jade, her head down. Dylan gives her a little push forward and she speaks, albeit slowly and a little mumbled, unusual for the little genius.
Jade: I’m… sorry, dad.
Skyler: I know. I am too.
The two embrace and Jayden gets a tear in his eye as Dylan sighs at him. The last sight we see before we exit is Jade Striker, hugging her father, both looking in opposite directions to each other, and Jade rolling her eyes at her father, having successfully fooled him.
