Newest WCF signee, Crystal Knight, sat down with WCF.com recently to reflect on her past and look ahead to her future of being a WCF Superstar.
WCF.COM: First of all, allow me to welcome you to the WCF. With that said and done, can you tell us a bit about yourself? Who is Crystal Knight?
Crystal Knight: Thank you very much for the kind welcome. As for who I am, my name is Crystal, I'm ninteen years old and I grew up, and still live in Anchorage, Alaska. I live by myself and have an Alaskan Malamute pup called Kovu [laughs] is that the kind of answer you were looking for?
WCF.COM: Absolutely. Have you always wanted to be a wrestler then?
Crystal Knight: Yes, definitely, although my parents weren't too keen on the idea at first [laughs]. I've always been a huge fan of the WCF ever since I was a little girl. I remember my Daddy taking me to see the shows when they were in our area and I was just hooked from there. One of the first matches I ever watched was Creeping Death vs Hellz Angel, in which Creeping Death won. I remember arguing with my parents, practically begging them to let me stay up to watch that match [laughs] and I knew at that moment that one day I'd just love to lace up my own boots and step into the ring. It's been my dream for a long long time now and I can't describe how excited I am that after all these years it is finally coming true.
WCF.COM: How long have you been wrestling now?
Crystal Knight: I actually started wrestling when I was still in High School. Like I said my parents weren't too happy about me doing this, to this day they still view me as their precious little girl [laughs] so at first I tried to keep it a secret. I'd sneak out after school and go and wrestle some guys who were twice my size, I did pretty good for myself though.
WCF.COM: How did your parents find out what you were actually doing and how did they handle it?
Crystal Knight: Well, at first I tried to cover up my bruises with makeup, but that never really worked too well. My Daddy actually went down to my school to speak with my principle, because he thought I was getting bullied. That wasn't the case though of course and so I decided that I had to tell them the truth, they were more concerned than angry really. My Mommy tried to talk me into going into the family business, like all concerned parents would do I guess, but she could see that this was my passion and my dream so she tried to be as supportive as she possibly could be. Daddy isn't quite as supportive as she is when it comes to me wrestling, though. He's just being a protective, concerned father though [laughs].
WCF.COM: So how did you come about signing a contract with the WCF?
Crystal Knight: Well, I was wrestling in an indy show called, Outsiders Wrestling Federation, in Arizona, Phoenix. That night there was a lot of buzz going around in the locker rooms, they told me that a major star was there that night and that I should wrestle to the absolute best of my abilities to impress him. When I got out there I was in awe to find that the guy who was watching me was the same very person who I had idolized as a child, Corey Black. I guess I must have impressed him quite a bit because after the show he approached me asking me to come along to a meeting at the WCF Headquarters. I don't think I've ever screamed so much in my life as I did that night [laughs].
WCF.COM: And now Corey Black is your trainer in the WCF Performance Center, what is that like and how is it going?
Crystal Knight: Oh my gosh, I can't begin to tell you how excited I was when I heard that he would be training me. Corey is a fantastic trainer and he knows how to get all of us to reach our full potential. He is a little bit "old school" and does work us hard, but to be honest I wouldn't have it any other way. I wouldn't want him to go easy on me just because I'm a girl. He knows how hungry I am for this and how badly I want it, so he pushes me to my limits to shape me into a great wrestler and I love him for it.
WCF.COM: Your nickname is "The Ice Princess", can you tell us how you came up with that name and/or where you got it from?
Crystal Knight: Well, actually that too came from High School. See, when I was eleven years old I was put into private schooling and although I was a little bit of a teachers pet [laughs], and my grades were always good, the other children thought I was a bit odd due to being from Alaska. It was a name I was called by my class mates and I kind of just ran with it.
WCF.COM: Your inring debut has been scheduled for April 17th. Is there anything you'd like to say about that?
Crystal Knight: Well, I know that I am a little bit of a small fish stepping into a big pond, but at the end of the day as long as I can prove to everyone that, yes I do deserve to be here and yes I am good at what I do, that is all that matters. I want to be a role model to young girls and be someone that they can look up to, that they can relate to, that they would want to dress like [laughs] We’re strong, empowering women. I’m sure there’s a little girl out there watching our matches and dreaming of one day stepping into the ring, just like I did. And if I can just inspire someone out there to follow their heart, their dreams... that will make me very happy indeed.
