I had a dog. Her name was Bernadette. She protected me. She would rather die than let anything happen to me, and I thought the same way. I was only a child then. I loved her like a sister, and she cared for me. We went on walks through Roanoke, together, in all weather. She always had my back against the inner city punks. I thought she was helping me. I found out the truth one day, however. They beat me down and tied her up. Her cries of helplessness were pitiful and pathetic. After all that time, she was finally rendered helpless to save me- or herself. They doused her with gasoline and lit a pyre right before my eyes. My guardian was taken from me that day. I didn't know what it was like to protect myself. All that time I thought she was doing me a service, she was actually poisoning me. She never gwve me the opportunity to stwnd up for myself or grow confident in my strengths. I had to face reality and do it fast when she was murdered, lest I be left behind permanently in the advancement of the human race. Being the strong willed Norseman I am, I figured it out. I thrived on my own despite all those years of being held back and sheltered like some liberal moron's man child. Now, I have a cat. Beowulf never needs anything from me, and I never need anything from him. We survive simulatenously and in parallel. We have no parasitic relationship that burns one of us into the ground. If you wish to be successful, Crystal, I'd suggest opening your eyes to the reality you've buried yourself in before it's too late.
