The scene opens on a very quiet, moonlit Mexico Night. a calm desert breeze floats slowly over the cool sands as the little town del Sol settles in for a well-deserved nap.
But for the first time in a long time, Teo del Sol was not one of the settlers. Though the hour is late and growing later, the owner and proprietor of the most successful gym for a hundred miles sits on a steel folding chair, staring at the empty ring in the center of his home.
Today had not been an easy day. Today Teo had helped Spencer Adams clean out his room at the gym. Not that he blamed him of course, with the big job in Japan looming, there wasn't much point in keeping his room open. Besides, Teo didn't want Spencer to feel obligated to visit; the former People's Champion had enough on his plate.
Teo stared up at the ceiling, and his eye caught an orange crepe streamer, still left from the Halloween party. He smiled and reminisced on the times with Spencer and Vic. Teo had never asked Spencer if it bothered him. Spencer had spent so many months chasing the People's Title, had faced against Scarecrow at his height and lost. Then almost as soon as he had finally reached the top of the mountain, Kemp had stolen it.
Kemp. That name still left a bad taste in Teo's mouth. He had never encountered anyone that just rubbed him the wrong way quite like Kemp. The man had used every tactic, every trick in the book to try and break him, to steal back the title he never deserved in the first place.
But then, Teo had taken care of that. At XIII and at ONE, Teo had freed the belt from Beach Krew. At least they could claim one victory...
Teo wondered but could never ask if it bothered Spencer. Here Teo sat, on the verge of a record-setting reign with the belt that his best friend barely had a chance to hold. How do you even ask someone that?
Teo sighed and stared at a framed photo on the wall, of the People's Choice holding aloft the Trios belts. The night that they had shattered Pantheon- and the night Beach Krew had stolen control of the company.
It always came back to Beach Krew, didn't it? They had opposed one another over and over again. Tag titles, Trios Titles, TV titles....People's titles.
And now. For the first time, in a long time. Teo was staring down Beach Krew by himself.
He was standing across the ring from a hungry faction, a faction that nobody but him was taking seriously. They were wounded animals and the federation was laughing at them.
Maybe they just hadn't faced them enough.
Maybe they really didn't see what the Krew was capable of.
But one thing was clear to Teo.
The People's Choice wouldn't be around to protect anyone anymore.
And he was beginning to realize just how few friends he had left....
