“You should have run for days, you embraced, you betrayed…”

The scene fades into view of a primary school. The school itself is relatively modern, with the traditional coloured playground and the sandpit, the school oval and the gymnasium all in view. There is a sign on the school entranceway which reads ‘Midland Christian School’. The parking lot is filled with cars, as it is 3:00, the leaving time for most primary school children. We hear a bell ring and the children slowly begin exiting their classrooms, chatting enthusiastically to one another about what they are going to do over the weekend. The camera comes into three year seven children, two boys and a girl, who are discussing wrestling.
Kid 1: You know what it is this week, Jason?
Jason: Hell yeah, Scott! It’s WCF School of Pain weekend!
Scott: And we get it free coz’ of Foxtel providing it for all school kids!
Jason: Score! Jade, who do you want to win the hardcore match?
Jade: Jack of Blades. Duh.
Jason: I thought so. And you get to see him up close, too!
Jade: That’s what happens when your father is a professional wrestler.
Scott: So cool.. hey, Jade, do you mind if we come over next week to see him?
Jade: I’ll check with him, but it should be okay.
The three children arrive at the quick pickup area, and a car pulls up. The driver is none other than Skyler Striker. Jade grins as Skyler hops out of the car and comes around, and he picks her up in a massive hug. Jason and Scott stare in awe at Skyler, who puts Jade down again.
Jade: Dad, this is Jason and Scott. They’re a little awestruck, but try not to laugh.
Skyler gives a grin before shaking both of the boy’s hands.
Skyler: So I guess you two must be the ones I’m taking home this afternoon then.
Jason/Scott: Are you serious?
Skyler: One hundred percent. I talked to your mothers yesterday after school and they both told me about how much you two kids like wrestling, so I offered to take you home, and here I am.
Jason/Scott: Cool!
Jade grins again and all three children pile into the back of the car. Skyler jumps back into the front and starts the car, pulling out and turning onto the main road. The camera view fades out and fades in again to one of those shots you get when people are in a car on TV shows – facing straight towards the back of the car through the front windshield.
Jason: Aren’t you wrestling this weekend, Mr. Striker?
Skyler: Call me Skyler, kids. Mr. Striker reminds me of a teacher for some reason. And yes, I am wrestling at School of Pain this weekend.
Scott: Isn’t that in America, though?
Skyler: Naturally. I fly over tomorrow night.
Jason: Awesome…
Scott: What’s it like fighting Danny Vice?
Skyler: In one word, intense. For a bigger explanation… fighting Danny is incredibly difficult. We both used to go to that school, you know. We didn’t talk to each other or see each other that much, but we went together. Fighting someone you know is hard. But fighting Danny as a wrestler, it’s insane. He’s fast, ruthless, and agile, but that’s why I selected a ladder match for School of Pain. I have the aerial ability to do so. I haven’t lost a ladder match yet, and I don’t intend to be doing anytime soon.
Jason: Awesome…
Scott: Jason, all you’re saying is ‘awesome…’
Jason: So awesome…
Skyler: But this ladder match will put an end to it… for now. That hardcore title around Jack of Blades’ waist will soon become either mine or Danny’s, and I intend on making it mine.
Jason: So awesome…
Skyler laughs and pulls into a suburban house. Scott jumps out of the car, says goodbye to Jade and Jason, and goes through the front door. Skyler pulls away and continues talking.
Skyler: You still want to come, don’t you, Jade?
Jade: Of course, daddy. You know I wouldn’t miss you fighting.
Skyler: There’s my little girl.
Skyler pulls into another house only a few numbers down the street from Scott’s and lets Jason out of the car. Jason is heard muttering ‘so awesome…’ as he exits and says his goodbyes. Skyler pulls out of the driveway and continues down the road.
Skyler: I’ve got a surprise for you, Jade. We’re going to the airport.. now. We’re laving for School of Pain tonight.
Jade: Serious? Awesome!
Skyler grins and pulls into his own house, a well-off suburban house, and shuts off the car. He tells Jade to run inside, which she does. Skyler looks into the camera.
Skyler: Danny – you and your siblings and whatnot have a close relationship, I’ll give you that. But you’re not the only one with a family to support. And a champion’s salary is much higher than anyone else’s. This Sunday, it’s School of Pain. A ladder match for the number one contendership to the hardcore title. I haven’t yet lost a ladder match, Danny. I don’t plan on this being the first. Don’t be late, Danny – you’ve got a date with destiny.
Skyler leaves the car and the camera fades to black.
