Lost Time
As Grayson Pierce moved he felt his body stick to the leather seats in the back of the ’09 Lincoln Continental he awoke in the back of. His WCF Tag Team Championship belt weighed down his stomach and as his eyes cleared and adjusted to the evening he saw the familiar surroundings of his neighborhood in Centereach Long Island.
The houses all pointed at each other which he thought was weird and no fences were in the front yard to designate where one property ended and the other began. He lived on the corner so his house pointed straight, but he had a similar fence situation as the surrounding homes.
As the vehicle slowed down and eventually stopped at his house he looked at the time; it was 1 in the morning, yet he saw a light on in the living room. He assumed that Kat was waiting for him and was hoping that she was naked… because of the sex that they could have to celebrate his victory at Slam… because they’re married and they like to do things like that.
Right?
He pays the driver what seems to be an exorbitant amount of money and leaves a somewhat generous tip considering he got a Championship Bonus after leaving Slam and knows that a better life financially is on its way for him and his lovely wife. He steps up the gravel walkway and grabs the errant package on his door step before he uses his Kwikset key to open the door.
He is greeted by a running, clothed, wife who leaps into his arms and embraces him as though she hadn’t seen him in months rather than days. He accepts it, realizing that there’s nothing that soothes him more than a hug from this woman, and nothing makes him realize his anxiety until it is being drained away from him through this loving embrace. It’s truly love.
So was the smack across his face.
Grayson
What the hell was that for?
Kat
For not coming home for so long!
Grayson
What are you talking about?
Kat
You didn’t call, you didn’t email. You just left two weeks ago and came back now. And even worse… ugh, I can’t even…
Grayson was rightfully concerned. He had left his house on Friday and headed to Tennessee to go to Slam on Friday, and it was Tuesday now. He was scheduled to be home all week, through Valentine’s Day and the next day wait for the following week’s the card to come up to prepare for his next match.
Grayson
It’s been 4 days, babe…
Kat
It’s been 10!
Unbelievable. He couldn’t believe this crazy woman right now. He saw delirium in her eyes and instead of arguing with her, he decided to pull out his phone and pull out his calendar. He reached in and pulled his iPhone out his pocket and looked at the date.
2-16-16.
Grayson
What the…
Kat looked concerned. She had seen this look on his face before. It meant that he lost his memory for days. It meant that there was a time in his life that he lived that he didn’t remember, and from what she can tell it was over a week long! It was terrifying for both of them because it could only mean one thing. As far as they knew here was only one explanation for this situation, and it was perhaps the worst thing they could imagine but there truly seemed to be no other explanation.
She pulled up her phone and pulled up a segment from Slam featuring Gemini Battle calling out the Hardcore Champion.
Kat
This isn’t you?
Grayson didn’t know how to answer. He didn’t remember it, but he promised never to lie to his wife again after his recent stint with drug addiction. He looked at the image on the small device. He didn’t remember doing it… but it didn’t mean it wasn’t him
Instinct took over.
Grayson
Someone has got to be fucking with me.
It wasn’t a lie. That someone could very well be himself fucking with him. Kat looked uneasy with the whole situation. She looked deep into the man’s eyes that she loved with all of her heart. She saw no glimpse of guilt, or regret… only fear. He truly didn’t know what the answer to that question was. An unavoidable tear welled up in the side of his right eye and he tried to suck it back in but a sudden blink forced the warm liquid down his cheek. He tried to pretend it wasn’t there, ignoring it as it trailed down his jaw and off his chin; the single tear dropping to the floor and immediately absorbed by the crimson carpet below their feet, gone forever.
He couldn’t take his eyes off the place where the part of him disappeared into the void, imagining a deeper meaning from it all. A part of his inside was gone, his memory, his being. He was doing things he couldn’t remember. He grabbed onto his title belt, unsure of what to do, and when he expected the cold gold to touch his hand he realized that he held a piece of paper in his hand. He looked down on it and recognized the emblazoned symbol immediately.
It was from an old friend.
He placed it neatly on his table and his Tag Team Championship Belt on top as Kat led him into the kitchen to continue this discussion further.
In the Twilight of Their Lives
It sucks, doesn't it.
Trying so hard to put up the best effort you can and getting shit on my your partners.
I personally have no idea what that's like but my opponents this week are such a dysfunctional unit that 'family' in my experience at least truly is the only way to describe them.
I guess we start with Mama Twilight... The only one that seeks to have her shit together, hitting the bottle at night while during the day putting up the facade of a strong head of a unit... Cleaning up the hit that her asshole kids leave around.
She's the only one that seems to really give a shit, the only one that really needs to. Without her there is no family. Without her as the glue that holds this controversial and egotistical group together they would disintegrate into the nothing that they truly are.
Meanwhile the entire time she is being plotted against... It's only a matter of time until everyone disappoints her and that bottle that looks so tempting on the shelf starts calling her name, not to drink, rather to break and use as a weapon against the rest of her family.
It's kill or be killed, Sarah, and your son Charon may be your most immediate threat.
The rambunctious teenage boy if the group, (metaphorically of course). On he outside he's nothing really to stare at. He's an average student, you would never take a second glance at.
Then one day he comes home with some Crimson dirt on his hand. You think nothing of it at first... Boys will be boys after all. Bout this see,s to happen more and more often and that detached glaze in his eyes goes from typical teenage angst to something more dark.
Is he on drugs?
You could only hope at this point.
But there's something deep down inside of you that says that something terrible is going on. Something you can't begin to comprehend. Many just when you build up the courage to talk about it, it's too late... It always is, isn't it?
If only you cared enough earlier maybe you could have stopped it.
But if it makes you feel any better... You couldn't. He was destined to be this way... Because Charon is not like the rest of us... Hess got something wrong with him, and when you least expect it... He's going to kill everyone in his family.
Normally I would intervene... But in your case... I'll just watch.
Pillow Talk
For hours they talked about the situation.
What if Gemini Battle is coming back?
What do we do?
Are we safe?
These were all valid questions but he was getting sick and tired of fucking going over it time and time again. The answers were all the same.
What if Gemini Battle is coming back?
-I don’t know.
What do we do?
-I don’t know!
Are we safe?
-I DON’T KNOW!
But he couldn’t be as blunt as that. Dealing with Kat was much more delicate. She was tough, and could deal with a lot, but she was still fragile after the… well to avoid bringing up the death of his son over and over again it will be hence forth called ‘The Incident.’
Needless to say she was still shaken up by the incident that had occurred a mere 3 months prior. He had to tread lightly with these answers.
What if Gemini Battle is coming back?
-I beat him before… I can beat it again.
What do we do?
- Well, hard work, focus and therapy got me through it last time, and there’s no reason that it won’t work this time.
Are we safe?
-Of course we are, babe. I would never let anything happen to you.
He repeated this mantra to his wife and each time it seemed to put her at ease each time. This made each lie worth it. Meanwhile his heart beat a million times a minute and his palms were constantly sweaty. He could smell his own BO from a mile away and he had to walk around with it daily.
He was nervous it what I’m trying to say.
He was nervous, and all he could do in his mind as he repeated the mantra that calmed the love of his life was think of the actual answers that he wanted to give. The answers that were probably the truth.
What if Gemini Battle is coming back?
-I think he’s already here!
What do we do?
-Fuck if I know!
Are we safe?
-Honestly…probably not.
An email from a friend was a welcome distraction to the night of insanity they were experiencing. He looked at his phone, eager to stop this conversation, and he smiled. He looked at his wife and said…
Grayson
Wanna take a trip to Houston?
Who Will We Get
The rest of the family sits at the other end of the table. First we have the sultry daughter. Unlike the nondescript boy this girl certainly is something to gander at. She dresses provocatively and seems to be a lot more devious than you initially give her credit for.
Her looks may deceive you because she can take care of herself. The thing is that she doesn't want to. So she uses her family to do her dirty work, and uses her sugar daddy's to get her the things she feels she deserves.
Morrigana is to be trusted about as much as Charon. The difference between physical and sexual violence is slim. It's a show of dominance by an insecure being who wants more to prove to herself that she's dominant rather that to anyone else. It's dangerous but once you understand it you see the pity so much more.
Then there papa Logan. Drunk off Clorox and on the toilet most of the time because of how he abuses his body. There are two versions of this man. There's the man that showed up at Final Destination. The man that proved to everybody why he is called a legend.
Then there's the man that will likely show at Slam. When he feels a match is below him he treats himself as such. And to him every match that doesn't directly lead to the title is below him.
Fair enough.
You deserve the title, no doubt. But people like me and Rebellution go out each and every week and put out the best effort we can. We work our asses off and in the end of the day when we see someone like you come in and disrespect everything we've worked so hard for its plain to see why we don't like you
By disrespecting the WCF you disrespect each and every one of us. You disrespect your own stable. You disrespect Seth. You disrespect your opponent at time bomb...
You disrespect yourself. Because we know at time bomb you're going to bring Logan fire. But this week you're goi to bring shit. It's a shame that idiots like Katherine Phoenix follow you blindly, feeding into your ego... Because if you were knocked down a peg maybe you would show some humility.
Oh yea... The family analogy thing....
Uh... You're the asshole dad who beats himself off in front of his sexy daughter. She probably blows you too. Whatever. I'm done with this bullshit. You guys have fucking ruined this week for me. Son when we step into the ring... I'm going to fucking ruin you!
Team
Grayson Pierce paced the barren office nervously as he hated being the first one to the party. He was meeting with his teammates this week at a location decided by Steve Orbit. He entered through the back of the brick building, and could only assume from the house music playing in the front that it was some type of club, strip or otherwise.
Office was a generous term for the room he was in. A desk and a filing cabinet were the only things there with a rolling office chair in front of the computer on the desk. The walls were bare, and the wainscoting below showed the watermarks of years of aging. He jumped when the door behind him opened and Bonnie Blue stepped in wearing a white trench coat covering her denim jeans.
Bonnie
What’s up, Gray.
He showed her the envelope he received. He had not opened it yet, wanting her to be around for it. The look on her face was what was expected. He had called her warning her of the envelope, but didn’t quite know how to describe the emblem, but assured her that she would recognize it once she saw it.
Bonnie
The infinity Omega… the end that never comes. That’s Jay Omega’s favorite symbol.
Grayson
It’s on all of his correspondences.
Bonnie
Why would you wait for me? Why not just open it.
Grayson
Johnny Reb had a bit of a connection with him and I figured that…
Bonnie
I know Jay very well. I guess it makes sense to go to someone you trust who had knew him well… but why are you hesitant in the first place? It’s just a letter.
Grayson
Well, Jay and I had a bit of a volatile relationship for one. He used me to do… well… let’s call them ‘less than savory tasks’ but he would pay me a shit ton to do it. Financial issues have always been a major issue for me and, be it altruistic or not, he would always shoot work my way.
Bonnie
Right…
Grayson
Well, we parted ways, and his latest communication with me was not actually with me, rather…
He struggled to finish the thought. It sounded so crazy to explain out loud. People must think he’s a lunatic… hell, even he thought that sometimes after going through what he did.
Grayson
… with Gemini.
Bonnie
And the reemergence of Gemini Battle at Slam along with this letter can’t be a coincidence.
Grayson
How can it be? And when Omega and Gemini spoke it wasn’t about money or anything like that. It was… I don’t know. I have vague memories, but everything is all fuzzy from then. I have reoccurrences of them at times but nothing is clear enough for me to be sure exactly what I went through. It seems too crazy…
Bonnie
Well… I’m a time traveler, in case you forgot, so I’ve seen things that a lot of people would call crazy.
Grayson
Yea…
He still didn’t want to go into full detail about his controversial and confusing past with Jay Omega as he wasn’t even sure himself on what it was.
Grayson
I guess I should just open it…
With that being said Andre Holmes enters the room. He shakes off the rain from his coat looks at his Rebellution cohorts as Pierce quickly hides the envelope behind his back.
Andre
Whatcha got there?
Grayson pulls out the envelope. Andre looks at the nondescript item with a confused look on his face.
Andre
Why you hiding it?
Grayson
I… actually don’t know… ha… it just seemed like the right thing to do.
The three of them laughed, even if Grayson’s was a bit more nervous that natural. He shook the hand of his Tag Team Partner and Co-Tag Team Champion as the door opens from the front...
Steve Orbit enters with a glass of golden liquid in his hand and a smile from ear to ear.
Steve
Welcome-- I know it don't look like much now but I'm thinkin' about buying the place, renovating it, all that. I'ma call it Orbitz with a Z-- because when you come here, the shit ends here!
The Rebellution members look unimpressed as Orbit struts over to the desk, puts the glass down and leans with his butt on the corner of the desk looking at his teammates for their match this week against The Family.
Steve
Look, I know you all probably don't know what to make of me right now. So thanks for coming here tonight, really. I’m sure that you would rather be teaming with DeMarcus instead of me, but I don’t make the matches, Seth does, and let me tell you, with all due respect to DeMarcus, having me is an upgrade. And not just because of my experience in the ring, or my experience with Logan and the elder, more weirder members of the Family, but because of my desire to beat the shit out of them more than any of you could possibly understand.
After a brief pause...
Grayson
I’m sorry, and you are, again?
Orbit laughed.
Steve
Yea, I know, I know. We didn’t exactly have the greatest past, Livewire. But trust me when I say that after we fought not once, but twice in a row for that Hardcore Title of mine, I knew your mother fucking name after that.
He looks around the room.
Steve
And let you all hear that. I’m not like I was last year, or a couple years back. Last year I know a team like yours wouldn’t exactly get along with me and the rest of the Vapor Kings. Hell, I wouldn’t get along with me last year, but the time off let me reflect on some things. I’m back here with one purpose on my mind, the WCF World Championship. But until a REAL opportunity crosses my path again I will do whatever it takes to prove that I deserve it… and if beating Logan and Twilight’s asses are on that list then even better for me!
Grayson looks at Bonnie who is nodding intently at Orbit. Holmes rubs his fist in his hand looking pumped. Pierce then steps towards Orbit who gets off his somewhat lacks position and stands tall, a few inches taller than Pierce who steps up to him and looks up at the formidable opponent.
Grayson
Orbit, you’ve insulted me, you’ve belittled me, and you’ve straight up disrespected me and people that I care for. You’ve had a history of treating me like shit. I straight up don’t like you… I don’t know if I can trust you…
Holmes
Come on…
So young… so trusting….
Grayson
Easy, bro. Let me finish. I don’t know if I can trust you…
He extends a hand.
Grayson
But I’m willing to give it a chance.
Orbit looks down at the reception and accepts the handshake.
Orbit
That’s all I ask.
If this was a movie some inspirational music would be playing right now and the scene would fade out.
But it’s not a move… it’s real life and the two released their tense hold and shared an awkward moment of silence.
Orbit
Anyone want a drink?
He reaches into his drawer and pulls out-- what else, his trusty bottle of Hennessy. Pierce and Bonnie shrug as he then produces three glasses and pours up a few rounds.
