Present Day
Charon had been weeks without any viable action inside of the ring for weeks. He'd been left off of the final roster for the Valentine's Day events, and cared not to participate in Wednesday Night matches. There wasn't anything in it for him, so why bother? He cared not for the extra exposure, but rather cared that his talents were placed in an area where they were best suited.
Alas, this was probably a symptom of being in a group that had more than a few well-established superstars in its midst. Logan, also known as Mr. WCF, probably did not help being one part of the eclipse of Charon in the scheme of the group. Sarah Twilight, the much talented but also much hated entity that she was, also did not help in keeping Charon in the dark. This despite all the work that he did behind the scenes to ensure that The Family ran efficiently amidst all the ego problems within the group. To include Katherine Phoenix, who seemed more concerned with teddy bears and her own agenda of her first, and fuck everyone else.
Then there was Dag Riddik, who seemed to not help but antagonize and offend everyone in his path. It seemed even whenever Charon came up with an idea that Dag didn't agree with, the term "darkie" and "nigger" would seem to be right at the tip of his tongue, ready to fire at Charon. However, thus far, Dag has kept those terms to himself in regards to Charon. Whether out of fear of Charon or the remaining members of The Family, he didn't know. Charon didn't care, so long as Dag did his part in the group.
And then there was Morrigana, who seemed to be rather oversexualized and obsessed with violence. At least she was far from insulting to Charon, if not a bit to high-strung in their training from time to time. It was one thing to put a training partner in a submission hold, and another to apply pressure where it was not needed. Or was it her way of trying to get Charon to acknowledge her? He barely acknowledged his own presence in The Family, as he kept his distance even from his colleagues and partners.
The distance wasn't out of hatred or even apathy, but rather out of history. Here he was, 27 years old, and had no living family left to go home to. He had seen what few friends he had die at the hands of the IRA, or in Afghanistan and Iraq. If anything, he had learned that it was best to have associates and acquaintances, rather than draw himself too close to anybody. What was the point if everyone he cared for dies in the end? Especially too soon and unnaturally?
Perhaps this was also the reason for why he chose to kill. Not the people he disliked directly, but rather those who he felt were assholes. People like the members of #BeachKrew, or those associated with House of Ophelia. Hell, even Andre Holmes had proven that he was a stuck-up ass that deserved to have family members murdered, dismembered, and left in areas that he frequented, so he would know not to fuck with people in such a disrespectful way. Though to be quite fair, Katherine Phoenix was an annoying twat that antagonized him to no end. And Dag was just one of those guys that even a mother has difficulties accepting for who he was. An angry, hate-filled kid, for some God-unknown reason.
Either way, the time had come for Charon to step back out on to the WCF stage, in yet ANOTHER tag team match. ANOTHER clusterfuck that nobody really gave a shit about. Before he goes onward to a Pay Per View in a match of very little consequence that is put there for more fodder that the WCF fans could give two shits about. It was hard for him to get excited about the match, which featured several members of The Family against the members of Rebellution, or "Rebel Lotion", as Charon liked to call them.
His lack of excitement stemmed not from the opponents. Indeed, these opponents were worthy, as their overall records proved. Especially one Grayson Pierce, or was it Gemini Battle? Charon didn't know what the fuck he went by nowadays, it was so confusing. But either way, this man found himself in the upper echelon of the WCF, in some cases, for reasons unknown. He didn't have a stellar record, but he did have a work ethic that was hard to match. His partners were quick to point out that his record was nothing to write home about, and even Grayson Gemini Battle Pierce was able to grudgingly admit that, as well. But Charon would be damned if he overlooked what he had done in his time with the WCF, despite such a mediocre record.
Then there was Andre Holmes, who proved talented enough to compete in the WCF, but he also seemed to be quite a twat in his own way. Seemed like how everyone calls Dag "The Asshole of The Family", that even Rebellution had its own asshole in respect to Andre Holmes. Especially after he disrespects his foes and opponents, then marches his family out into the spotlight. What is that all about? Is he revealing to Charon who he should target and attack for his transgressions against The Family? Pretty fucking stupid. It seems that he thinks he can hide behind such weak meatbags and justify his mouth for their sake. Someday, they may pay for his sins with the ultimate sacrifice, but that day has not come yet.
Then there was Bonnie Blue, the time-traveller. Charon wondered if she had ever traversed time to see just what kind of evil Charon really was. Not like she could prove much of anything, as Charon took care to hide his transgressions, or alter them to suit his needs. The only good thing about her that he could discern was that she wasn't an annoying "look at me!" girl that you see everywhere else in the WCF. Katherine Phoenix was that way, and it was ANNOYING!!! Twilight was, to a lesser extent. Charon's theory on why she does what she does was not for attention, but rather it was a byproduct of her actions. Maybe it was to garner attention, after all. Even Morrigana seemed to suffer from this, in all aspects of her life, it seems. At least Bonnie Blue had a Daddy who paid attention to her. Sort of, at least... Maybe?
Of course, there was the Token Black Guy of their team. Steve Orbit! I guess the other black guy, DeMarcus Jordan, bastard son of Michael Jordan, wasn't worthy enough to be included in this clusterfuck of a match. What was it with all these people in the WCF named "Jordan", anyhow? He should consider himself lucky, as this match probably didn't mean dick when it came to upward mobility in the WCF, which it seems that everyone here craved. Steve Orbit the most, as it seemed that he was still sore about how Seth fucked him over in lieu of Logan. At least he'll get his chance at Logan this upcoming Slam, and Twilight, as it seems that he REALLY dislikes Sarah for whatever reasons. If anything else, he seemed to be the most upbeat about this match than anybody else.
But his opponents aside, Charon was lacking motivation because of how fractured The Family had been since formation. The silent wars between Logan and Twilight did not help matters. Neither did the flaky disposition that Katherine Phoenix brought to The Family. It was like pulling teeth to get her to comprehend why we do what we do. If anything, she was ungrateful for whenever Logan did something for his so-called "sandwich maker".
With the match looming, Charon felt that the chemistry within the team was just not going to work. The egos of Twilight and Logan were just too much. And Katherine Phoenix did not help. If anybody really suffered from the ill effects of this match, it was Charon and Morrigana, the two youngest members of The Family, in terms of how long they had been members of the roster.
And of course, it didn't help matters much when Charon found out more things about Twilight that he didn't care to find out. Such as the fact that she was in the process of undermining every member of The Family in an effort to make herself look good, while mowing down the competition. It was a predicament that Charon found himself in, on the eve of facing Rebellution in battle. Turn her in to The Family, or watch this all play out and hope to avoid the pitfalls she sets for Charon? Would The Family even listen if he was to reveal her ulterior motives? Even when he revealed hard evidence against her?
Yes, this was where his lack of excitement for the match stemmed from. He was going into battle with a traitor in their midst. And how could one be excited or willing to fight next to someone who has designs to end you at a moment's notice? Especially an enemy who lies directly to your face?
Then there was Hank Brown. The guy who ran around to talk to everyone prior to the matches at hand. He had come up to Charon, asking his little questions so he could run off and tell others what he said...
Hank Brown: Charon, how are you doing today?
Charon: Do you really want an answer to that question? Do you even really care to get an answer for that question?
Hank seemed baffled at the apathy that Charon had presented, but it didn't prevent him from asking his next question...
Hank Brown: Well, you do face Rebellution in this evening's match. How do you feel going into this upcoming match?
Charon: Dread.
Hank Brown: Care to elaborate on this "dread"?
Charon: Do you even really care? Probably not, but I guess I can elaborate...
I dread this match because the team I go into this match with is not so much of a team, but rather individuals who call themselves a team, when in fact, most of these members are out there for their own benefit. We got Logan, who will step on anybody to get to the top, and has proven that time after time. Same with Sarah Twilight, who cares NOT for any member of this team. Same for Morrigana, who just wants to be recognized for her skills, as she's been pushed aside more often than not during her time here in the WCF. And then there's myself in this match. Why the fuck am I even here?
Hank Brown: Are you alright?
Charon: At least on the other side, there are four individuals there who have their own designs in this match. Orbit just cares to obliterate Logan and Twilight for his own selfish reasons that pertain to them being better wrestlers than he is. Which plays real nice into the team plan, if we bothered to even come up with one. Bottom line is if I cared to, I can put every competitor in this match flat on their back and retire them to a chalk outline if I cared to. To include Orbit, or Pierce, or Bonnie Blue, and even that loudmouthed asshat who hides behind his family Andre Holmes. Hell, if I had to, I could do the same to my teammates. And let's face it, they'd do the same thing to me if I let them. Not that I would...
Hank Brown: So you plan on obliterating everyone in the match, to include your teammates?
Charon: Don't be stupid. But think about Logan, and how he's operated over the years. I almost expect to be fed a spoonful of treachery somewhere down the road. It is inevitable. Hell, Sarah Twilight has already fed us a heaping spoonful, and the end result of that will come forth before the night is over.
Hank Brown: What do you mean by that?
Charon: I guess you will have to watch what happens tonight to see. But I'm beginning to see what the WCF is all about. Step on people to get ahead, to include your own teammates. Just like Orbit will use and abuse his team to garner some sort of vengeance against those he deems to have wronged him in the past. Just like how Grayson Pierce will step on his own teammates to get himself another shot at a title or other opportunity just to blow it. Just like how Andre Holmes will do the same to be relevant, as will Miss Blue Bayou will, as well. Which is just fine. Saves me the trouble of putting forth much of a game plan inside of the ring.
Hank Brown: But your team, you just said...
Charon: I know what I just said. But this match isn't about teams, as much as you think it is. Its eight individuals who pretend to give a shit about each other fighting to see who is King Shit of Turd Mountain. Another meaningless match in a maelstrom of bullshit that the WCF runs on. No wonder everyone in the WCF is either a drug addict or an alcoholic. In some cases, its both. I guess its fortunate for myself that I don't care enough to become one or the other.
Hank Brown: Well, the WCF does have a Wellness Policy and Treatment Plan. Perhaps you would care to...
Charon: I just got done telling you I don't have a drug or alcohol problem...
Hank Brown: Yeah, but it seems like you may have a depression problem or...
Charon: Depression? Really? Why be depressed? But why care about anything? You think people are going to talk about this match when the day is over? Or years from now? NO! Hence why you can ask me questions, and I'll tell you the truth about what I think. So let me spell it out...
This match means absolutely nothing. Not to me, or its competitors, despite whatever they want to tell themselves or anybody else before they step into the ring. If anything, this is just a match to make maybe a few of its competitors happy at the others expense. I dare say that those who are the happiest are NOT the fans, but a few people with some hurt feelings who need to find a way to make themselves look strong and relevant after getting his ass handed to him a few weeks ago.
Then on our own end, we're fractured. We don't click. Hell, we're about as broken as broken can get. But after tonight, we may be able to drop some dead weight from The Family. One can hope, anyways. Either way, there isn't much to get excited about for me, this evening. Maybe others will be excited by developments, but I will not be one of those people. Hell, for all I know, I may be the one who endures said wrath and dismissal. But forgive me if I go into this match less excited about it than you, or any other asshat in the WCF wants me to be.
Hank Brown: Sorry you feel that way...
Charon: Fuck your apology. You can use it to wipe your ass with, for all I care. Bottom line is this. I'm here for me, myself, and I. I would love to want to give a shit about some of my colleagues, but I'm in an ugly place right now in regards to The Family. Maybe after the dust settles, I can resume giving a shit. But until then, I'm here for ME! Not YOU, or Seth Lerch, or any other pretentious cocksucker in the back who thinks they're so fucking important and their shit don't stink, but ME! And if they don't fucking like it, then maybe they can do something about it! Fire me, for all I fucking care.
I'm sick of talking to you. Go away, before I shove this oar up your ass and turn you into a meat popsicle...
Hank Brown moves away with the cameraman, as Charon watches them leave with the quickness. Maybe others can hide their discontent more so than he can, to include his own teammates, but that was not his way. At least he was honest with his intentions and words, which was more than what he could say about anybody in the WCF, to include his own "Family". Maybe, just maybe, this would be the fire needed in order for The Family to fix their woes.
Or maybe this would be the fire that burns the entire house down. Time would tell...
