“When I look at the stars, I feel like myself…”

We fade into a scene of a pathway in a city park, where the lights are dim and the whole place is almost deserted. The sky is clear and filled with stars shining. The flowers around are in full bloom, yet because of the limited light, they all appear black, grey or a very pale and dimmed white. The camera moves down the path and we see a park bench, with a man dressed entirely in white. A close view of the man reveals that he is Skyler Striker. Skyler is wearing all white – a white singlet, white jeans, even white sunglasses, which he carries everywhere. The only thing that is not a part of his regular wardrobe is his left arm, which is in a sling. The camera goes to move away, but Skyler stops him.
SS: No, don’t go. I don’t mind. I can use this as a… diary of sorts.
The camera stays in position and Skyler relaxes on the bench, his legs crossed at the ankles and his good arm spread over the rail.
SS: This is where I come when I just need to relax. I can look at the stars from here, there’s next to no light around. It’s peaceful just to watch from here and observe the lights in the sky. I’m not into astrology or anything. I don’t believe that the stars have any significant power in our lives. I’m a Christian, so I don’t really need to presume they do anything spectacular for me. I come here every week, and they only change as the earth turns, so it’s obvious that astrology isn’t real, or our lives would be the same, year after year. I believe in destiny, and in fate, but that’s nothing to do with how the stars and planets move. No, stars are something for us to look at and dream about. Humans have a very different definition of stars. Mankind believes that stars are celebrities, people who get famous, make a ton of money. That’s not it at all. The only real stars are up there. In the sky. In the dark sky. That’s why I love this place so much. It’s not an illusion of human thought. It’s a place where people can come and think about what really matters. And that’s what I do here. I come to clear my mind after each week of getting in the ring. Danny’s been clouding my thoughts lately, but this week, he’s not near me, so I can think straight for once. You’re probably wondering why I’m not cloudy because of Shane Sires. Shane doesn’t bother me. Unlike Danny, he doesn’t understand me. While Danny and I are very different people, we still understand each other. We’ve wrestled each other enough to get an idea of what the other man is like. Shane Sires, on the other hand, has no idea who I am.
Skyler grabs a drink from his thermos on the ground before continuing. There are noises of owls hooting in the background, and Skyler stops for a few seconds before continuing again.
SS: I enjoy living. I love listening to the owls. It’s haunting, it’s enchanting. Shane would ignore that completely, go and grab a gun and shoot them or something. Shane doesn’t know me, he doesn’t know why I exist. I know why I’m here. I’m here to wrestle, to do what I’m passionate about. Whether it be against Danny Vice or Shane Sires, I wrestle in that ring because I enjoy doing it. I don’t put my body on the line for no reason whatsoever. I do it because that is the sacrifice I must make to do what I love. What Shane loves entails sacrificing things anyway, so I’m sure he doesn’t understand what I’m talking about. I know that what I do for a living, for my passion to survive, I have to put myself on the line. And now I’ve put everything I have out there. I’ve wrestled singles matches, no trouble. I sacrificed my body last week on Slam in a hardcore match to take Danny out. That hurt, but I knew I’d done the right thing in terms of getting the match over and done with. I did something to one of the muscles in my arm, which requires me to wear this sling, unfortunately. I am allowed to take it off for this week’s match, but after that, it goes straight back on. This week, I have no choice. I have to put my body through hell and back to even wrestle in the match, let alone win. A falls-count-anywhere, no DQ match. One of the most brutal matches in wrestling. A match that can go anywhere, from the ring, to the carpark, to even such places as the local airport or ridiculous places like that. A match where pins can be anywhere, on the concrete floor, on the roof of a car, in the middle of the road, as long as the referee is nearby. And this week, I put my body on the line to wrestle Shane Sires and prove that I love wrestling more than anything.
Skyler rubs his wrist, the only part of his lower left arm not in a sling, one of the first things that collided with Danny last week. He grabs his thermos and takes another drink before speaking once more.
SS: I take everything I have and give it to wrestling when I step into the ring. That is what I will do this week, like every other week, when I wrestle. You see the stars in the night sky? They shine because it’s dark, you can’t see them during the day. Real stars shine in the dark. Now, I’m no star. But I’m definitely a light, and that is something at least. And this week on Slam, when I face off against Shane Sires, this light becomes a fire, and this fire won’t stop burning. I will blaze my trail through the WCF and show everyone what wrestling is all about. Until this Sunday, I’ll be training and resting up my arm. For now, though, I’ll just stay and enjoy the stars.
Skyler grabs his thermos once more and takes another drink, relaxing and watching the night sky, which twinkles with the stars. The camera pans upwards to the stars and fades out slowly from there, ending the scene.
