~*~*~The scene opens in Lance Ryan's house. He is sitting quietly on a leather couch, facing the fireplace. There is nobody else in the room and Lance appears to be deep in thought. He is dressed casually. Wearing only a pair of blue jeans and a white beater. His head rests in his hands as the camera settles in on him. He stays like that for a few moments and then the silence is broken by the sound of a ringing phone. Lance reaches into his pocket and pulls out his cell phone, placing it on the coffee table in front of him and he opens it and hits the speaker phone button.~*~*~
Lance:
Yeah.
Matt:
Lance, it's Matt. I just wanted to check in on you and make sure that you are preparing for Sunday. I know that the past few weeks have not been two of your best, but we can rebound from that. We have a chance to turn the ship around this Sunday when you take on Jason Anderson.
Lance:
Well, I am preparing, but I have also been thinking. You know Matt, wondering. Wondering if that first win was just a fluke. Wondering if I really do still have what it takes to compete in the ring. Wondering if I should just ride back into the sunset from whence I came.
Matt:
Sometimes, I just cant comprehend if I am dealing with a professional, or a child. Lance, regardless of wins and losses, you are being given a shot at the People's Championship this Sunday. It is you and Jason Anderson, think about it, he is the man that won that six man tag. You get to avenge that loss, and add a title to your waist here in WCF. The sky is the limit after Sunday.
Lance:
What is the name of this title?
Matt:
The People's Championship.
~*~*~Suddenly Lance rises to his feet and shows some emotion. He looks angry and he starts to pace the floor back and forth. His voice raises as well.~*~*~
Lance:
The PEOPLE'S Championship? What the heck is that? I have no problem with winning a title but if the higher ups in WCF expect me to start palling around with the fans, signing autographs and going to photo ops after I win this title they have the wrong man! I don't play those games. I learned a long time ago that fans are nothing but a leach on your career, In this business you need focus. You don't burn yourself out with publicity stunts, and most of all you do not give a damn about those peons that pay to see you wrestle.
Matt:
Lance, that is not what they expect from you. But keep that fire, I am beginning to see the Lance of old for the first time since you returned.
Lance:
The Lance of old? The only person that needs to be watching out for the Lance of old is Jason Anderson. I hear the world title, and the fire in my eyes returns. Suddenly, I realize that you are right Matt. Losses mean nothing, we know that in this business what matters is how many high profile matches you win. This is my first in WCF and I plan on being one for one in that situation when we all wake up on Monday morning.
Jason, winning that title will prove to be your demise. Bringing that belt home with you last Sunday, that will prove to be the most costly mistake that you have made thus far in WCF. One week title reigns are not smiled upon in the business, in fact, they tend to get you noticed as transition champions. You took that title, and you are doing nothing more than keeping it warm for me come Sunday.
As for you fans. Prepare to have the kind of People's Champion that you need. I will be the real role model that is needed in society today. I stand up for numero uno, that being me. I look after what I want, and I could be the role model that pulls society out of the gutter and makes kids around the world stop giving a shit about the emotions going on around them. I will usher in a new day as People's Champion. A day of reckoning for wrestling fans everywhere. I will lead you, as long as you all stay the hell away from me.
~*~*~With those words, the scene fades out on Lance Ryan sitting back down on the couch.~*~*~
~*~*~Lance is under the impression that if he wins the title he will be put in a more prominent position. It will be interesting to see how Lance Ryan as People's Champion works out if he wins on Sunday. It would seem that he is already letting the prospect get to his head.~*~*~
