“Sundown – send the demons to their graves…”

The camera fades into the inside of a QANTAS airplane. In particular, the business class seats. In one row next to the window, there is a businessman typing away furiously on his laptop, with his wife asleep next to him. In the row behind them sits Skyler Striker and his daughter, Jade Striker. Skyler is dressed in a red shirt, covered with a formal black jacket and a set of black pants. He is staring out of the open porthole-like window, with an iPod hooked around his waist and the earphones inserted into his ears. Jade is enthusiastically pressing all the buttons that Skyler has told her she is allowed to press, and lights, the TV, and her drink table are all switching modes frantically as she does. Suddenly, Jade gets to her knees on the seat, and turns to Skyler, tapping him on the arm. It takes him about five seconds to respond from his trance-like state, but he responds nonetheless.
JS: Dad, what are we doing when we arrive at the airport?
Skyler sighs and takes his earphones out. He settles himself down to explain their plans for the next two days.
SS: Well, we get to the airport, we get our bags, grab a taxi, and then we drive to our hotel…
JS: Which hotel?
SS: Well, the rest of the guys that I know of are staying at the Hilton, so I guess we’re going there as well.
JS: Sweet.
SS: So we get to the hotel, go to sleep, explore town for the first half of the day, then I have training for the rest of the day, and then School of Pain is on the Sunday.
JS: Okay.
SS: Any reason why you wanted to know our timetable, Jade?
JS: I’m trying to figure out when I’ll have the chance to get Jack of Blades’ autograph.
Skyler laughs at his little girl and rubs her hair.
SS: Someone’s developing a favourite wrestler, I see!
JS: I like him because I can connect with him. He’s smart. So am I. He knows how to get inside his opponent’s head. I want to meet him in person, see what it is that makes him tick, that makes him who he is. Whether it’s his speech, his facial expression.. I just want to know. You’ll take me to get his autograph, won’t you, dad?
Skyler sets his drink down on the small table which flips out from his seat. He turns to Jade and smiles widely.
SS: I will do everything in my power to make sure you get your hands on something Jack has put his name on – it’s not going to be a sheet of paper. It’s not going to be a shirt. No, no. what I am going to get you will be much better. What I am going to get you is Jack of Blades’ Hardcore Championship Belt. I'll rip off his nameplate and you can keep it.
Jade’s jaw drops at this and she smiles widely, but her expression quickly switches to one that is of confusion.
JS: But then I won’t get to meet him in person…
Skyler smiles once more.
SS: Jade, my little girl… not only will you get to meet him, but you can shake his hand.
JS: How’s that? If you’re fighting him, how am I supposed to shake his hand?
SS: Because when I knock him to the mat, and pin him, you can come into the ring and shake his unconscious hand until your own hand falls off.
Jade smiles once more at her dad and gives him a hug, which Skyler returns in kind. Jade continues her quick questioning of her dad.
JS: You know it’s physically impossible for your hand to just fall off for no reason, right, dad?
SS: Yes, I do, Jade.
JS: And you also know that for you to fulfill all of those promises you just made me – which, by the way, I just wrote up in my notebook to make sure I remember your exact words (at this point Jade shows her father the notebook, Skyler stifles a laugh) – you have to beat Danny Vice at School of Pain, right?
At the mention of Danny, Skyler suddenly pays full attention to Jade. His mood changes from happy to a fixed, aggressive one.
SS: Danny Vice…
JS: Whoa, dad. Calm down. Don’t go nuts here. You have to control yourself or they’ll throw you off the plane like they did with that man a while ago on the islands.
SS: Jade, don’t tell me that I have to beat Danny to get to Jack. I am perfectly aware of that. My mind for the last six weeks has been nothing but Danny, Danny, Danny. Everywhere I go, he’s there. Two days, and I get my hands on him once more. And I will not sleep until I have him beaten. I will not rest until I am on top of that ladder with my #1 Contender’s contract in hand. Don’t be late, Danny…
JS: Dad, he can’t hear you. It’s not an interview.
Skyler sighs and sits back in his chair, taking a sip from his wine glass full of coca-cola and staring out the window once more.
JS: You’ll do fine, dad.
SS: Thanks, Jade.
The flight attendant’s voice comes out over the sound system, and Skyler and Jade both nod to each other, smiling, and do up their seatbelts, retract their miniature tables and put their seats in the upright position. The voice finally comes out after a little technical difficulty.
Voice: Attention, passengers, we are about to enter the last thirty minutes of the flight before landing, so if you would all please put your seats in the upright position, put your tables back in their slots and fasten your seatbelts. Thankyou!
Skyler and Jade suppress laughs with their hands as the plane begins to descend and the scene fades.
