The scene opens in a backstage hallway after Slam. Skyler Striker, dressed in his usual out of ring attire is walking towards the exit with Jade Striker. Skyler’s pace is slow and he stumbles often, not from the after-effects of the tag match in which he suffered quite a beating, but from his state of mind, which seems to be questionable by the look in his eyes, which lack their usual fire.
Jade: Father, wait! I’m not as fast as you, my legs are smaller! Surely you’re not upset over the tag titles!
Skyler stops and emits a cold, sharp laugh.
Skyler: Ha. As I have said many times before, Jade, the tag titles mean nothing to me. I do not want to be bothered with a division which means I must rely on a partner.
Jade: Anyway, with the lack of decent competition here, you’re more than likely to be able to go for the World Title after you beat Danny at One, which won’t be a problem at…
Skyler: Danny Vice. No, Danny Vice, as much as it may seem foolishness, is not my main concern at the moment.
Jade: You’re insane, father! Danny is the single source of all your problems in the WCF! You got here and he has stopped you at almost every obstacle! You got the upper hand in the first half of your feud, and he has taken the upper hand recently, and you’re failing to realise that if you don’t regard him as a threat, you will lose this match!
Skyler: No, Jade. I realise that. But the focal point here is that Danny Vice realises that fact as well. He knows as well as I do that he has the upper hand but that now, no ‘upper hand’ matters. This goes beyond what either of us has ever even thought about. I don’t know. I just don’t know what, or where, or why…
Jade: You need to be ready for this match on Sunday, father! You can’t be serious!
Skyler: I’m deadly serious. I’m more than physically ready for Sunday. I won’t be training in the gym. I’m going away until Saturday morning. You’re staying at home. Understand?
Jade: No, I don’t! Why are you doing this, father?
Skyler: Because I don’t know who I am. People on the street still call me the Fury Crusader. I am not him anymore, I’m not the Fatebringer, I’m no-one! I barely deserve my own name at the moment. This is my fault and no-one else’s, and I’ll be damned if I’m going to go into a match not knowing who I am, because that’s the biggest mistake any wrestler could make. This is about identity, Jade. That’s my reason. I need some time alone to figure out once and for all who I am. No tests on me in your lab, no examination from doctors… just me.
Skyler begins walking again and reaches the doorway to the carpark when he is stopped by a hand on his shoulder from behind, belonging to Thunder. Skyler drops his bag and spins, ready for an attack, but Thunder does not flinch, having expected the reaction.
Skyler: Yes?
Thunder: Hey, chill. I know we didn’t win the tag titles tonight, but Seth says we might get…
Skyler: No, Thunder. I’m done with those stupid tag titles. I want no part in them. You’ve been a great ally these past few weeks, but I’m done.
Thunder: That’s fine. We all need some time now and then. Although a warning – I will come after your Hardcore Title sooner or later.
Skyler: Thanks for the confidence, Thunder, but not even One is on my mind now. I’m lost.
Skyler picks up his bag again and walks out the door, driving away and leaving Thunder and Jade alone in the hallway.
Jade: I don’t understand him.
Thunder: He just needs some time. Trust me. Danny went through the exact same thing on his way out. This goes beyond both men. This is so deep in their minds right now that both of them will come back new men for One. You watch.
Jade: I suppose.
Thunder: Would you like to come out for dinner? It’s a French restaurant, so you may not…
Jade: Well, I have no way to get home, so I guess I’m staying with you until One. And please tell me you’re not going to ‘Ombreaux’, I hate that place.
Thunder: I like your taste in food, Striker.
Thunder and Jade leave the arena also and drive away, ending the scene.
