A MID SOUTH INDY EXCLUSIVE WITH RAGE MAXX!
By Thomas Hordon
Memphis Wrestling. The place that set the precedent for what Professional Wrestling would become. Channel 5 wrestling every Saturday morning with Jerry Lawler. An era long since passed that has given so much to the Superstars of today. One of which is well on his way to becoming a Superstar. Memphis Wrestling's own Rage Maxx. Rage showed up on the Memphis scene roughly 10 years ago to begin what has become nothing less than an impressive career. Wrestling everyone from new comer's to some of the biggest names in our sport. Many have said Rage is responsible for bringing the Memphis Wrestling scene back to life and I have to say, I think it's true.
It's been quite a while since I have seen someone create a fanbase like this outside of one of the big companies. On the indy scene, you occasionally see guys with the it factor but not very often. Let me tell you, Rage Maxx is one of those guys! Rather he is wrestling for Lonestar Championship Wrestling in South Texas or Memphis Championship Wrestling here in Tennessee there is no doubt you will notice several fans of the self proclaimed baddest mofo on the show.
Approximately 2 years ago, Rage reached the pinnacle of his time in the South by capturing the most prestigious of titles a wrestler in the Tri State area can win. The Southern Heavyweight Championship has been around the waist of Rage Maxx since that fateful night. when Maxx defeated 2 opponents on November 12th, 2013.
It's because of these very facts Rage was offered a contract by the world famous Wrestling Championship Federation. The Southern Heavyweight Champion signed a contract with the Federation and has his first match on Sunday December, 6th. The night before he will defend his Southern Heavyweight Championship one more time. Earlier today I spoke with Rage Maxx in an exclusive interview for Mid South Indy Readers.
Thomas Hordon: Rage, first of all let me thank you for sitting down today to talk with me. Second of all, congratulations on securing a contract with WCF! What are you thoughts at the moment.
Maxx: It's my pleasure Thomas. My thoughts.....well I have 2 thoughts. One is my final match in Memphis this Saturday. The other is my first match the very next night in WCF.
Thomas Hordon: It must be a strange feeling. Defending your Championship for the final time in the Main Event on Saturday and then wrestling the opening bout as a new comer the following night in WCF. What can you tell us about your match?
Maxx: It's a triple threat match featuring myself and two other guys who just signed with the company. Roland Von Erich and Andre Holmes. It is a strange feeling but even though there is a change in event status as a performer, the event itself is on a much larger scale. I mean we aren't talking about the National Guard Armory in BFE' Arkansas. This is the next level and I feel lucky enough to have made the transition. I will miss Memphis but I know in my heart that after my run here has ended, hopefully not anytime soon, maybe in 20 years time or so, I will return to Memphis and help the next guy ascend to the top.
Thomas Hordon: For our readers who aren't familiar with these two men, Andre Holmes is a very talented wrestler from Texas who is the former World Extreme Federation Champion as well as the Undisputed Midwest Extreme Wrestling Champion. I've done some research on Von Erich. Little is known about this man with the exception that he hails from the Ukraine and stands at an impressive 7 ft tall. Maxx, after reviewing what has been released thus far about the match it seems there is some tension growing between you and Holmes...Would you care to elaborate?
Maxx: No there is no tension. I respect Holmes. He did get a few things wrong but we won't hold that against him. First of all, fake eh? Hmm. I am not sure what you think you saw in me to make you think that I am fake Andre but this Sunday I will take extra care to erase any doubts you have. And let me clarify something for you bud. You misunderstood what your disadvantage was Andre, it's the fact that you are in my way.
Thomas Hordon: Mr. Holmes seems to be very confident in his ability to go as far as to say and I quote "you are afraid of the fact that I can tear you down, and make you look like the average jobber of the century."
Maxx: Oh Thomas, that puts a smile on my face. You see, if my buddy Andre thinks that the baddest mofo on the show is just a two bit fall guy then he is walking into the ring totally unprepared, I gave this guy credit but after seeing his response I realized I gave him to much. Not only is he judging a book by it's cover, he thinks he knows the ending.
Thomas Hordon: Without directly quoting everything that was said by Andre Holmes, his verbal attack was particularly viscous. What are you expecting from Mr. Holmes as well and Mr. Von Erich this Sunday at the WCF Slam Event?
Maxx: I expect a variety of things. After hearing what was said by Andre I am a little disappointed because I tell you this much Thomas, if he comes to Rio Rancho, New Mexico expecting a fake he is coming to Rio Rancho unprepared. I gave fair warning to both men that this isn't just a wrestling match. I am prepared for War, a showdown. I will separate seas and destroy mountains in an effort to make sure that I walk out of that arena the victor. As for Roland Von Erich, I have seen some of his matches but have yet to hear anything from him directly. He is a monster of a man standing at 7 feet tall, 345 pounds but size isn't everything. Obviously he isn't concerned about this match or he would have addressed it by this point. With that said, I believe he will be walking into the Santa Ana Star Center severely underestimating the two men he will be doing battle with.
Thomas Hordon: You obviously give Andre Holmes a lot of credit. Everything you've mentioned about the match and even in this interview you say what you feel which includes things that aren't so flattering but for instance you say that like Roland Von Erich is not only underestimating you but Andre Holmes as well.
Maxx: Over zealous cockiness gets you nothing and no where in this sport. I respect Andre Holmes even if he doesn't respect me. The man is a remarkable athlete who will no doubt put up a hell of a fight but his downfall is as apparent as his talent. He senses that I am a fake. That I am scared. I've been in the ring with adversaries that rival Andre Holmes and his abilities in the ring. I've stood toe to toe with legends and while Andre may be a very talented wrestler, a legend he isn't. But as I said earlier, he is more than welcome to think I am a fake and that I am afraid. He will receive a full education in what and who Rage Maxx is this Sunday and that is the baddest mofo on the show, flying in straight from Mempho with carnage and destruction on my mind. I will leave bodies in my wake on my way to the top of WCF, the first two of which are the men we have discussed.
Thomas Hordon: Rage at this time I want to thank you for taking a moment out of your busy schedule to discuss the current status of your career and your upcoming first match as a part of WCF. I know I speak for fans all over the Mid South when I say I would like to wish you the best of luck. Is there anything else you would like to say?
Maxx: Thomas, first of all it is an honor to be interviewed by you upon my exit from the Mid South. I have seen you at countless events writing and taking photographs. Hopefully I will see you this Saturday for my last match here in the South as an indy competitor. I would like to thank all the fans who are responsible for my success and my step up to the next level. I have a love for Memphis that will never die and I will take it with me all over the world and remind people of what Professional Wrestling means to Memphis and what Memphis means to Pro Wrestling.
