The postal office. Hated by most, loved by… well, mail. It is inside a suburban postal office that we here a commotion going on. Closer inspection of the scene shows that two men are fighting – one is small and hunched over, the other is Skyler Striker. Skyler is absolutely dominating the smaller man, wiping him through various shelves filled with novelty letters that have pictures of Santa all over them. Finally Skyler grabs both of the man’s legs and swings him over his head, and the man’s head goes crashing through the flimsy wall, leaving him struggling to pull it out, his legs flailing wildly in the air as Skyler dusts his hands. He is dressed in his usual maroon ripped attire, no sunglasses this time.
SS: That’s why you don’t steal my daughter’s diary, you little creep.
The man in the wall stops flailing and mutters something incomprehensible due to the sound being contained within the wall.
SS: No, I’m not helping you out. You can do it yourself. Or get Jack of Blades to help you.
The man finally exerts enough pressure on the wall to squeeze his head through. The patrons are all watching in disbelief as the man stands and dusts himself down. He goes to run away but Skyler grabs him by the collar and hoists him into midair, the man’s little arms and legs flailing. A closer inspection reveals the man to be Jesper Reisert – Jack of Blades’ not-so-loyal helper.
SS: Jesper, the diary.
Jesper: Oh, right.
Jesper pulls Jade’s diary out of his back pocket and hands it to Skyler. Skyler puts it in his own back pocket and sets Jesper on the ground. Jesper does not try to run but instead turns and punches Skyler’s leg. Skyler laughs and kicks Jesper in the groin in return, but Jesper does not feel any pain. Skyler gives him a quizzical look but Jesper only smiles and grabs Skyler’s leg as a dog would. Skyler tries to shake him off but does not succeed until he finally spin kicks Jesper into the wall again. All the patrons give an ‘ooh’ pain, recognizing the fact that the hit Jesper took must be pretty hard. Skyler turns to them and nods before grabbing Jesper by the collar and dragging him out the door. Eventually the two wind up outside Jack of Blades’ house, and the garage is open, with no cars in, so Skyler grabs Jesper and holds him on the ground while he writes a note, which he attaches to Jesper’s back, where he cannot reach it. He then grabs Jesper by both legs and swings him around and around until letting go, sending Jesper in through the second story window of Jack’s house. Skyler drives away and arrives home later, beginning his training routine. However, we focus on Jade Striker, who is wandering aimlessly around Jack’s house until she runs into Jesper, who is acting like a brick on the floor.
JS: Jesper, what are you doing?
JR: Being a brick. Quiet.
JS: Bricks don’t talk.
JR: Shhhhhh!
JS: Bricks don’t play with themselves either. Eugh. (noticing the note on Jesper’s back) Jesper – do you know there’s a note on your back?
Jesper does not respond, so Jade sighs and grabs the note off his back, reading it. It reads as follows:
Jade, I know you’re in there. If you get this first, pack your stuff. You’re leaving on Sunday and coming home with me.
Jack, if you get this first, then here’s your pet …thing. He tried to steal my daughter’s diary. I already know what she’s asking – her favourite drink is a cinnamon latte. As for you on Sunday… pack your things as well, because when I beat you, I have already booked your mental health institute cell. Oh, make sure you polish my title. I’d hate for it to look dirty when I hand it to Jade.
Jade crumples the paper and throws it out the window, conflicted. She fails to understand why her father still sympathises with her but also is starting to see the flaws in Jack and his treatment of her. She is interrupted soon after, however, when Rosa comes bustling through with a large broom. Jade steps aside while Rosa sweeps the hallway that the scene has taken place in. She does not lift the broom when she gets to Jesper and continues pushing him along with the dust. Jade notices this and giggles.
JS: Rosa, you’re sweeping up Jesper.
Rosa: Meh.
Jade shrugs and heads downstairs as Rosa sweeps Jesper under a rug and the scene fades.
