This week’s Slam peeked my interest. The week before a Pay Per View event is often times a barn burner, and this week was no exception. Who else is looking forward to Dune vs Joey Flash? They have been feuding for what seems to be 4 months now, and every time we think that we’ll finally get to see them in action something gets in the way. Well with everyone focused on War next week I imagine we will have a clean match, well as clean as a match with Joey Flash involved can be, and we will see a decisive victory for one of these two men.
The Television Title has gotten a boost in credibility with the amazing feud between Los Tiburones and Teo del Sol as they exchange victories in various manners. This week Los Tiburones added to his extensive collection of belts a gold and leather one adorned with the WCF logo as he was able to escape the cage and emerge victorious in what one can only assume is his first ever decisive victory in the WCF. I don’t praise him often, but Seth Lerch this time certainly knew what the fans wanted as he ordered a final match to be competed against these two at War where the winner will be the undisputed Television Champion. In a division that is hard to build feuds in these two men have been fighting tooth and nail and I for one am looking forward to this one.
Talking about a division that is hard to build feuds in the four men involved in the Internet title match have done just that in a similar manner. Their hard fought match two weeks ago at Slam forced Seth to order them in a match this week that was full of violence and mayhem. These 4 will be stepping into the ring one more time against each other to determine who will regain the title that the deceased Scarecrow once held so proudly.
Which brings me to my next point.
As tends to happen wrestling is a difficult sport to remain healthy in. The WCF has been inundated with injuries recently including the untimely death of the fan favorite Scarecrow at the hands of an unknown man in an investigation currently being undertaken by the FBI. Isaiah Chavis fell victim to a grievous injury at the hands of David Sanchez recently. Due to the violent match, WCF Wrestler Caliban was also injured at Slam this week. These and many more injuries have happened in the ring as of recent weeks.
But sometimes injuries can be avoided.
After the WCF Main Event this past week Oblivion attacked the DRG in what some may consider a provoked attack. Due to the violent nature of the attack one Gemini Battle has been hospitalized in a local facility and we are awaiting word on his condition. In a surprise action made by Seth Lerch War has been pushed out a week and now will be taking place on October 4th, giving him 2 weeks to recover. We can only hope that he is able to compete given the extra time.
But the question remains, with their being so much action inside the ring why do wrestlers feel the need to resort to such vile and underhanded tactics to get their point across. At what point do we start punishing those involved and making an example of those who refuse to play by the rules, which are quite lenient as is.
As a wrestling fan and a reporter these and many more questions bother me as I watch some of the greatest workers in the world suffer injuries in ways that shouldn’t occur. They know that they put their bodies on the line each time they step into the ring, and I have it on good authority that they get compensated quite well for doing so, but it’s the extracurricular activity that causes a bulk of the injuries.
That being said War is shaping up to be the event of the year. There are at least a dozen men who can win War and become the number one contender for the World Title. Some have said that the lack of established names in the War event may diminish the integrity of the event but in my humble opinion the mid card of the WCF is as strong as any main event scene in any other fed. All someone needs to jump up to the main event here is a big win and a win at War may be just what is needed to open up a whole new door for a slew of superstars.
