Mysterious by his absence on the early draft of this week's Sunday Night Slam card is none other than reigning United States champion; David Sanchez. Last week seen David engaged in a grueling contest with Pantheon member and former United States and Hardcore champion; Jay Omega. During the contest things became heated to the point that David, frustrated with his opponent's strategy in the match utilized the championship belt as a weapon resulting in him awarding the victory to Jay Omega by way of disqualification. This chain of events however means that Sanchez retained his belt due to the champion's advantage. This was only the second of six rumored matches in the gauntlet of former champions that the Plague had laid out for himself and the second straight week he managed to retain the title by way of underhanded tactics, having pinned Logan the previous week after Jackson White distracted the veteran.
With rumors of a nagging shoulder injury surrounding the self-proclaimed "Last King of Wrestling" a lot of sources have already began to do the mental arithmetic and surmise that this could be the rationale behind his uncharacteristic vacant booking slot on this week's scheduled programming where he had originally been scheduled to defend against Alex Richards; the man who won the number one contender's bout at Revenge. David had been ducking Richards' advances towards the match for a number of weeks, simply claiming that he "had his mind on bigger things" and that he would fight Alex "when people would actually pay to see it" among a variety of other excuses.
Sources from WCF.com have been unable to contact David Sanchez at this time after multiple attempts to find out more on this story as it develops but were able to reach his wife and manager; Lady Knives, who had the following to say when questioned:
"He takes a week off and suddenly he's injured or avoiding a challenge? God forbid he has other priorities besides entertaining the fucking unemployed masses who attend these shows. Nobody seems to think that maybe he just wanted a week to stop and smell the roses. He's been competing, and winning might I add; week after week since June without rest. My husband is in perfect health and is not worried in any way about Alex Richards. Simply put: he just has better things to do with his time than spend the week before War running circles around some kind of mental patient."
