People have actually bothered trying to define the American Dream. Why? What’s the point? Is everyone going to want the same American dream? There is a whole Wikipedia page on it, its background, its history, and its criticism. It’s all a load of garbage. The American Dream is not something you can touch, it’s not tangible – the American Dream is something that comes from the heart. Dusty Rhodes knew that he had achieved the American Dream when he became an embodiment of it. The average family knows they’ve achieved the American Dream when they can have a family picnic and relax on a sunny summer’s day in the local park. Don’t look to the brain to find the American Dream – look to the heart.
The scene begins today in the backyard of a suburban house. The lawn is a bright green, and the swimming pool ripples as Skyler Striker dives into it. The water is a clear blue, and Jade Striker, who is sitting on the outside of the pool in a pool chair, moves her umbrella to stop the water from hitting her. As soon as Skyler is swimming, Jade moves the umbrella back and goes back to her laptop, which she is typing away on. Skyler does a few laps of the pool, the sun shining down upon him, before coming to the ledge of the pool and looking up at Jade.
Skyler: Anything interesting, Jade?
Jade: Not really. The opponent surveillance system is reporting more than average mentions of you, but that’s only natural after what happened at War.
Skyler: Really? What are they saying?
Jade: Boone from the Alliance of Violence is going on about how he would have won it no contest if he’d been in the match, Outcast is saying you have to make a choice of NCW or WCF, and there’s been a report of someone spitting green ooze at a lawnmower store somewhere downtown.
Skyler: Biohazard?
Jade: Who else?
Skyler swims to the pool steps and exits the pool, grabbing his towel and drying himself off while Jade shuts down the laptop. Skyler sits down in one of the pool chairs and closes his eyes, just relaxing on the side of the pool.
Skyler: We need more time to enjoy life.
Jade: Well, you chose the life of a wrestler, father. This is just a consequence.
Skyler: I know. And I wouldn’t trade this life for the world. This is my American Dream.
Jade: You’re top of the mountain, father. There will be a target on your back very soon – maybe even this week. Jack knows you’re a threat, you’ve become embroiled in the Vice/Thunder conflict, and you will eventually have to face Outcast down again and show him that you’ve sided with WCF. Seth is not going to be doing you any favors after what happened at Till Death Do Us Part. Someone else will want to be where you are.
Skyler: And right now it’s Thunder.
Jade: Exactly.
Skyler: Well, he’ll regret turning on me, to say the least.
Jade pauses, taking a look at her father. He seems the same as he was before War, but there is something that is very different, although she cannot determine what it is.
Jade: There’s something different, father. You’ve changed. Is it the voice again?
Skyler: No. The voice hasn’t said anything since before War. I don’t expect it to return.
Jade: You’re missing something, father. I’ll find out what it is. Don’t worry.
Skyler: I think you’re imagining things. I just need to rest after War.
Skyler lays back in the chair as the scene fades out.
