The scene opens up inside a radio station. Inside a recording room, to be precise. Skyler Striker is sitting on a desk, dressed in usual black and maroon attire, with his daughter/manager Jade Striker quietly reading a book in the corner, waiting for their interviewer to arrive. Five minutes later, the interviewer comes in, looking almost a mess. He sits at the table and his producer gives him the nod, while Jade takes a seat and Skyler simply laughs to himself. The ‘On Air’ sign flickers on.
Trevor Buckley: Hello to all our listeners out there. Sorry for being late, but someone tampered with my brakes, and I had to get them fixed.
SS: See, Jade, I told you it was a good test. He was only seven minutes late.
TB: That was you?
SS: Not me, but my idea. Just a test.
TB: Well, regardless, I’m Trevor Buckley, and this is WrestleRadio. My guest today is Skyler Striker, from WCF, and his daughter and manager, Jade Striker. So before we get to the callers, Skyler, I’ll point out your upcoming schedule, which includes a four-way tag match for the titles you lost only last week, and then at WCF’s Wrestlemania, you face your long time rival Danny “The Vagrant” Vice in an Extreme Hell in a Cell match for your hardcore championship. What are your thoughts on this week’s match?
SS: Well, I honestly couldn’t give a damn more or less towards the tag title match. Like I said last week, the tag titles are not and never will be my primary focus. I’m more concerned with my match at One for the Hardcore Championship.
TB: Don’t you want as much gold as possible though?
SS: No. End of story. I do not and am unlikely to ever seek the tag titles. They’re just another blip on my title history. Unlike the Hardcore Championship. I haven’t been fighting inside my own spectrum of advantage – I’ve been fighting tag matches. The Hardcore style is much more to my liking.
TB: Good, good. Oh, and one more question before we go to the listeners – the constant claims made by J.J. Biggs about how bad you are?
SS: J.J. Biggs can insult me for the rest of the year if he wishes. I don’t give a damn. His match at One is against Thunder, not me. He pinned me, yes. He’s a former World Champion. He has a lot of skill and is still one of the best WCF has to offer. However, I don’t care about him any more than I do Thunder or the tag titles. When I have to face him for something that matters, like my Hardcore Title, I will take the time to retaliate, but at the moment, J.J. Biggs means nothing to me.
TB: Okay. Now we’re going to go to some listener calls. On line one we have Geoff Tipper. Hello Geoff, you’re on the air.
GT: Yeah, a question for Skyler – do you expect to win your match at One against Danny Vice?
SS: I don’t claim and won’t claim that I will win. I expect to put up the fight of my life against Danny Vice and him to do the same. He’s smart and he won’t claim that he’ll win either. We both know that this match means far more than a Hardcore Title.
GT: So you don’t think you’ll win?
SS: I have the ability to. It comes down to willpower. I know I can win. The hard part will be in the ring.
GT: Thanks, Skyler.
TB: Okay, now we’ve got Jane King on line two. Jane, you’re on the air.
JK: Thanks, Trevor. A question for Jade – why don’t you appear at ringside?
JS: I dislike the atmosphere. I will come if necessary, but only when necessary. Father acknowledges this and accepts it.
TB: Okay, one last caller before our break – line three, with, uh… Repsej? Repsej, you’re on the air.
R: You all suck! Blades is new champion of tag! Woo!
Skyler seems to recognise the voice but cannot quite place it.
TB: He’s gone. That was weird. Any requests, Skyler?
SS: Yeah, can you play “Rookie” by Boy Sets Fire?
TB: You mean Vice’s theme song?
SS: It has a catchy tune!
The scene fades as we hear “Rookie” start to play.
